Perahera First Aid Services
The Sudhdhodhana Maha Maya Maha Perehera is one of the biggest Perehera in the Maharagama Division that took place on the 27th, 28th, 29th and the 30th of March 2013 in the PannipitiyaDewuramwera Temple. Being one of the major First Aid activities conducted by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), Colombo Branch the branch provided 30 numbers of First Aiders from the Junior Red Cross Circles in various schools and also officials from the branch were present to assist the Perehera in supplying water and First Aid making this service a success.

Blood Donation Programmes
A blood donation programme was conducted on the 16th of March 2013 at the Heraliyawala Unit in the Homagama Division on the 10th of March 2013. There were 40 numbers of blood donors where 40 pints of blood were collected from the heraliyawala area. The main objective of this programme is to encourage the existing donors to regularly donate blood, encourage new people to donate blood on a voluntary basis and promoting the protection of individual health.

Shramadana Campaigns
Shramadana Programmes were organised in the area of Lahirugama, Nawinna and Sangarama on the 16 th of March 2013 following up with a shramadana programme in Siyamabalagoda on the 29 th of March 2013. There were 70 numbers of volunteers in the Lahirugama area, 138 numbers of volunteers in the Nawinna area, 25 numbers of volunteers in the Sangarama and Siyambalagoda area each contributing to clean the community environment. The main objective of this campaign was to make sure that the community of the Heraliyawala area have dirt free area and also increasing the awareness of re – cycling & re using solid material to create a greener future for the future generation.

During dissemination programmes the history of the Red Cross, its seven fundamental principles, our humanitarian services along with the Geneva conventions are mentioned and described in detail to the community to give a better understanding about the Red Cross movement. 04 number of dissemination programmes were done for a total number of 162 students in Colombo district schools during the formation of the Junior Red Cross Circles (JRC). Dissemination exams were also done to make sure that the students have a proper knowledge on the Red Cross.

First Aid trainings were conducted by the branch for schools in the Colombo District on the 05th, 06th, 08th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th of March 2013 for the JRC’s formed in these schools; a total number of 178 students were trained on First Aid. The SLRCS Colombo Branch along with the District Disaster Management Centre (DDMC) conducted First Aid 01st and 19th of March 2013 at the Mattegoda Vidyalaya and the Meegoda Artigala Balika Vidyalaya where the students were educated on basic First Aid tips given in case of any day to day emergency. These Children were educated on junior first aid where basic first aid tips were given so that in case of a day to day emergency these children would know how to react and minimize the amount of risk. Meanwhile First Aid services done in schools on the 01st, 06th, 08th, 11th and 14th of February 2013 for sports meets that took place in some schools in the Colombo No. Name of District. Collaborative Programmes
Distributions of spectacles were done by with the Lions Club of Maharagama and Helpage Sri Lanka on the 02 nd of February 2013 at Viwekarama in the Maharagama Division and Kandawalawaththa in the Moratuwa Division. The SLRCS Colombo Branch coordinated with the units and the organizations helping the Lions club of Maharagama distribute a total number of 57 spectacles and Helpage Sri Lanka distribute 47 numbers of spectacles. The main objective of this programme was to provide spectacles for those who have refractive errors by thoroughly screening the community. To determinate the adult ability to move eyes in a normal fashion

Prevention and Stress Management Programmes
Alcohol and drugs have been a serious problem to the young and old generation of Sri Lanka and many people in some parts of this country have an easy access to alcohol and drugs on a daily basis. The Branch conducted two numbers of programmes on the 06th and the 23rd of March 2013 in the Ambalangoda and the Welivita areas thus increasing the awareness and the support of alcohol and drug prevention programmes by engaging the community to identify the disadvantages of alcohol and drugs used in the community. Meanwhile stress management programmes were conducted on the 30 th of March 2013 in the Lahirugama area where 35 numbers of participants were present from the area. The stress management programme educated the community on the impact of modern life by changing individual mindsets.

Sponsorship Programmes
A sponsorship programme was conducted by the Colombo branch and No Limit Private Limited for the Nawinna Raja Maha vihara in Nawinna. No Limited considered this as a Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) project and donated paint worth Rs. 26,400/= and initially considered it to be the first phase of the CSR Project. The Second phase of this project was the renovation of the washroom by installing fittings, donation of wall and floor paint approximately worth Rupees 115,000/=.
