Scalar Quantities & Vector Quantities
Scalar Quantity
Physical quantity which has magnitude only. Distance Speed Mass Energy Temperature Time Electric current Power Density Example Mass of 1 kg has no direction Velocity of 400 km h−1 has direction (due East)

Vector Quantity
Physical quantity which has both magnitude and direction. Displacement Velocity Weight Momentum Pressure Impulse Acceleration Deceleration Force

Scalar addition 1.1 kg + 1.1 kg = 2.2 kg

2 m s−1 2 m s−1

Vector addition 2 m s−1 + 2 m s−1 ≠ 4 m s−1

Addition of forces

3N+4N=5N
Magnitude of each force is represented by its length.
