If there is no heat loss to the surroundings, Heat gained by water = Electric energy supplied mcθ = VIt VIt c = mθ m: mass of water c: specific heat capacity of water θ : temperature change V: voltage supplied I: current supplied t: time taken

Applications
A radiator of low specific heat capacity is able to radiate heat faster. Cooking utensils are made of a metal which has low specific heat capacity so as to absorb heat faster.

Sea breeze Land has a higher specific heat capacity than sea water. Land is hotter than the sea in the daytime. Hot air above the land rises so that cooler air from the sea blows towards the land.
