FR0H THF PFw FR0H THF PFw FR0H THF PFw FR0H THF PFw: PRO LIFE ISSUES

In January Msgr. Marren and I requested your help in defeating the Freedom
of Choice Act (FOCA). Thank you to all who wrote letters. We learned that
our representatives do respond to us. Unfortunately, it now appears that those
supporting FOCA will attempt to incrementally attach such wording to other
pieces of legislation. We need to be alert to their maneuverings and continue
to let our elected officials know that this is unacceptable. I will keep you
updated.

Dickey Wicker Amendment: Earlier this month, President Obama signed an
executive order reversing the prohibition to use taxpayer funds for embryonic
stem cell research. Two days later he signed the annual Omnibus
Appropriations Bill (OAB), which includes the Dickey-Wicker Amendment.
It states: “None of the funds made available in this Act may be used for the
creation of human embryo or embryos for research purposes, or research in
which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded or knowingly
subjected to risk of injury or death.” Many lawmakers are now calling for the
elimination of Dickey-Wicker amendment in the Omnibus Bill: Here is a
sample letter you can write to your representative urging them to keep the
Dickey-Wicker amendment in the Omnibus Bill:

Senator Saxby Chambliss Senator Johnny Isakson
100 Galleria Parkway, St. 1340 One Overton Park, St. 970
Atlanta, GA 30339 3625 Cumberland Blvd.
Atlanta, GA 30339
Congressman Tom Price
3730 Roswell Rd., St. 50
Marietta, GA 30062
Dear (Representative):
As you know, the Dickey-Wicker Amendment to the Omnibus Appropriations
Bill prohibits the use of my tax dollars for funding research that creates and
destroys human embryos. I have read that several lawmakers would like the
Dickey-Wicker Amendment eliminated so that federal funding for human
embryonic stem cell research can proceed.

I am asking you to make sure that the Dickey-Wicker Amendment is retained
in the OAB. It is unacceptable that my tax dollars fund research that destroys
human lives. Please respond and assure me that you will keep the Dickey-
Wicker Amendment in place so that we can continue to protect human life.

Sincerely,
(Your Name and Address)
Protecting Health Care Provider Rights: Cardinal Francis George, President
of the U.S. Conference of Bishops, met with President Obama on March 17
th

to discuss the President’s decision to rescind the conscience rights of
physicians, nurses and hospitals that oppose abortion on religious, moral or
ethical grounds. Here is a video of Cardinal George’s remarks:
http://stopillinoisfoca.com/2009-0318/cardinal-francis-george. Cardinal
George has requested that we contact the Dept. of Health and Human Services
and tell them we want conscious objection to abortion protection to stay in
place and to protect those that provide health care services. HHS can be
reached toll free at 1:877-696-6775. I URGE YOU TO CALL!

I appreciate your strong support and follow through with FOCA letters. We
must do all that we can to protect innocent children in the womb. Remember,
they only have our voices. Further we must also protect citizens who object
to abortion. No one should be forced to perform abortions or have them done
in their facilities. I once again invite you to bring your special God given
talents to our Pro-Life group.

God Bless you and your families. Pray to end abortion.
