South Eastern Michigan Ski League-Mt. Holly Division

SEMSL-Mt. Holly Division Announces
The SEMSL/Mt. Holly Division Mountain Bike Team Summer/Fall, 2013 - This program is open to all student-athletes in the SEMSL-Mt. Holly Division. Student-athletes of all ages are welcome, as MiSCA now offers race categories for all ages. Come train and race with your friends from our division, and invite others who are interested. Few sports are more fun, and offer a more appropriate preseason conditioning opportunity for alpine ski racing than mountain biking. The sport of mountain biking calls for a wide variety of skills including agility and balance, requires both upper and lower body strength and cardiovascular fitness. Like skiing, mountain biking is a sport you can enjoy for the rest of your life.

How will this work?

All the student-athletes in the SEMSL-Mt. Holly Division will train together as a composite team under the CycleFit Sports Club umbrella, then race as a club team for their respective schools. Training days will usually be in the Holly area, and happen in the early evening to help accommodate travel. Team training will take place on uncrowded dirt roads and single-track mountain bike trails one to two days per week (weekdays and weekends). To make the best use of our busy schedules during the Summer months, and to integrate other Fall sports, student-athletes will be encouraged to get additional training hours at their convenience. To maintain accountability, we encourage the use of our free TrainingPeaks team account. Student-athletes will be able to use TrainingPeaks to view the training schedule, communicate with the team, and develop custom training plans to follow throughout the week on their own. Use TrainingPeaks to plan, monitor and analyze workouts, nutrition plans and daily metrics. Club members will receive an invitation to log in and verify your email address.

CycleFit Sports Club offers many additional group ride options throughout the week, and studentathletes will be encouraged to develop local group rides closer to their homes. Mountain biking is the safest of the cycling disciplines. Forget what you've seen on TV. Mountain biking is not about daredevils careening down hills. The average speed on a mountain bike ride rarely exceeds 10 miles per hour. It's a sport that gets student-athletes into the woods and away from the dangers of automobile traffic associated with our busy Michigan roads. CycleFit Multisport CycleFit Multisport is owned and operated by Ron Stack. CycleFit Multisport is located in Fenton & Saginaw, and will help assist our student-athletes with equipment selection, equipment maintenance and team pricing discounts on all gear. The equipment is becoming more and more affordable. Mountain bikes for as little as $300 can be state of the art plus $100 for helmet and shoes, and you're ready to go. If you've been to events within the surrounding mid-Michigan region in the last decade, chances are you've seen CycleFit. Their philosophy is simply -sell the activity, not just the stuff-, which includes creating opportunities (events) and support (Cyclefit Sports Club) as well. In addition to offering group training opportunities, CycleFit created the Tour des Lacs charity road ride, First Try Triathlon and CSC Tri Club, and the Maillot Jaune/Le Champion road race. Volunteer Coaching Staff We have a group of volunteer coaches who are dedicated to working with our student-athletes, and directing the training at each practice. Depending on the varied level of student-athlete age and skill levels, we may require assistance from willing parent volunteers to offer support at our training sessions. Safety and fun is our number one goal. Being able to offer age and skill appropriate training for everyone at every training session, is important for our success. If you are a parent who rides, and would like to become involved, please contact one of the below coaches to find out how to become involved. This is a unique opportunity to get our youth involved in a growing sport that they can enjoy for a lifetime. Loaner Bike Program Our team has a fleet of bikes available free of charge to team members on a first come, first serve basis. These bikes are housed at Holly High School and will be available for use on group rides and to check out for the races. Bike sizes will fit students from third or fourth grade to high school, but we lack bikes for larger high school students (5' 10'' and over). Donations of name brand bikes are welcome, especially of larger sizes. Helmets are also available for loaner use. Just contact McCreedy to make a reservation. SEMSL-Mt.
