As you know, we run many reader ads for government auctions, job positions, earn money at home, cash loans, credit cards, etc. Most of these ads come through state and national ad networks. Most of them are selling directories or listings of where to APPLY FOR what is advertised. This information may be available at less cost elsewhere. While these ads are screened where possible, we have no way of verifying the authenticity of their claims or the value of their product. The buying decision must be yours. If you have problems with any of these advertisers, please let us know and we will attempt to get you a refund. Most of the companies we have checked will refund their fees to unsatisfied customers. Read the ads carefully. Some charge a fee, as noted in the ad, directly to your phone bill when you call them. Once again, we can’t verify claims for every ad. Please consider their offer and make a voluntary and reasonable buying decision. Moneysaver Advertising

OSWAYO VALLEY ROD & GUN CLUB, INC. Due to the dwindling number of active members we will be holding a reorganizational meeting on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at 6:00pm at the club. In explanation, we are finding some of our current active members are somewhat overworked and overwhelmed at times. The OV Rod & Gun Club Inc. is dedicated to sportsmen and area youth. We annually stock area streams with up to 10,000 trout. We sponsor the Hunter Safety Course and Kids Fishing Derby. In addition, we provide a rifle range for our members and hold trap shoots that are open to the public. We also provide a meeting place for the Alleghany Treeing Hounds Club, 4-H Club, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. At the present time we are in “adequate” financial position. We do, however, need more help with the few fundraisers we hold to help us meet our expenses (average approx. $500 per mo.). Our major fundraiser is the Bingo Hall at the fair and we are woefully short of help every year. We are putting out a plea to anyone that would like to see us continue stocking fish for the kids, keep the rifle range open and provide a meeting place for area youth groups to consider lending a hand. All we ask is that you try to attend a few meetings a year and attend one fundraiser. They are both fun and rewarding. So talk with a friend, relative or club member and consider attending the reorganizational meeting on Sunday, January 6th at 6:00pm at the Millport Club. We need your assistance and the community needs the club to continue the 55 plus year old tradition of supporting sportsmen and OV youth. If you find you cannot attend the Jan. 6, 2013 meeting please contact us by calling 814-697-6241 or through our web site ( if you can lend an occasional helping hand. We would greatly appreciate it. fb DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS: CAT LITTER Clumping cat litter is expensive compared to clay litter, but it sure is nice. Expect IRS Delays This Year

Procrastination on the part of congress creating our current “fiscal cliff” issue means one thing for sure: expect delays and disruptions on filing returns. Also this year, the IRS will no longer promise a date for issuing a refund as they have in recent years. The online “Where’s My Refund” tool will only indicate if your return has been accepted, with no indication of when a refund will be sent.

Stop in or call our office for more information.

'Tis The Season To Start Gathering Tax Data
Tax season is right around the corner, which can be good news or bad news depending on the individual. For those accustomed to getting a tax return, that annual financial windfall is welcomed with open arms. On the other hand, those used to a tax bill every April are far less enthusiastic when tax time rolls around. With tax season on the horizon once again, it’s time to start preparing to file a return. The following guide can help individuals get their tax materials in order, whether they’re filing themselves or enlisting the help of a tax professional. •Personal Items - To file a tax return, individuals will need their own social security number, as well as that of anyone else they might be helping or listing on their own return. This includes a spouse and any dependents. If preparing someone else’s tax return, be sure to inform them this information will be needed to avoid any unnecessary delays. For those men and women who will be enlisting a professional to prepare their return, bring all of this information to the meeting. Tax season is especially busy

for accountants and tax prep professionals, so it might be difficult to secure another appointment should you forget to bring all of the necessary information. •Income Documents - It’s easy to get confused when attempting to file a tax return. For men and women who visit the local library for their filing information, that table full of documents can be intimidating. What’s more, the Internal Revenue Service Web site can be difficult to navigate for those who have not visited it in the past. No document is more necessary than a W-2, which employers must provide by the end of January. Men and women will get one from each of their employers, so those who work multiple jobs, even part-time jobs, will need a W2 for each job they’ve worked in the past 12 months. Additional documents that can be necessary might pertain to investment income, business or farming income, alimony received, and forms for state and local income tax refunds. A good rule of thumb to avoid getting lost in the documents is to start as early as possible the more extensive or complicated the employment and income history may be. For example, men and women with one job and no outside income should be able to file quickly and easily. The more extensive a person’s investment portfolio or the more jobs a person has, the more difficult it will likely be to file the return. So start early if things are complicated. •Credits - The government gives men and women all sorts of credits that reduce the amount of the income taxed. These include homebuyer credits, IRA contributions, green energy credits, or student loan interest. * Homebuyer credits: A properly executed settlement statement must be attached to a return, and men and women should keep in mind the IRS now has greater authority to deny homebuyer credits. * IRA contributions: A year-end account summary or bank statement is often all that’s needed. * Green energy credits. Among the items potentially eligible for residential energy credits are insulation, energy efficient exterior windows, energy efficient HVAC appliances, and solar hot water heaters. Of course, receipts will be necessary for those attempting to earn a credit for any of these items. * Student loan interest: A year-end loan statement should be received sometime in January.

fix if necessary, this health hazard can be avoided. Radon gas is not isolated to certain geographical areas or home types. Radon problems have been detected in homes in every county of the U.S. It caused more American fatalities last year than carbon monoxide, fires, and handguns combined! If a home hasn’t been tested for radon in the past two years, EPA and the Surgeon General urge you to take action. Contact your state radon office for information on locating qualified test kits or qualified radon testers. The federal commitment made by EPA, the General Services Administration, and the departments of Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, and Veterans Affairs will focus efforts on radon reduction and mitigation in homes, especially those of low-income families, many of whom do not have the resources to make the simple fixes necessary to protect their homes and loved ones. Learn more about the Federal Radon Action Plan at Last year, the federal consortium met with key leaders in the public health, environmental and private sectors to launch the federal radon action plan that includes both immediate and long-term steps to reduce radon exposure. Your media group can participate in this Nationwide initiative simply by writing articles and broadcasting messages about this deadly gas and by promoting National Radon Awareness Month 2013. Again, this January is the month of this year’s awareness drive, which is upon us! DAT volunteer Mona Meagher of Andover and Allegany County District Director Darlene Wells were on scene to provide the initial disaster assistance. Temporary housing, clothing, and meals are services typically offered to address emergency needs. The local Red Cross chapter will continue working with the families and their recovery process if additional services or referrals are necessary. All disaster assistance offered by the American Red Cross is complimentary and made possible by generous contributions from the American people and residents of Allegany County. Do you just sing along sometimes? There I was just driving along on a beautiful fall day, windows down so the cool breeze could blow through what’s left of my hair, sunshine streaming through the windshield with just enough warmth to feel good. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, one of my favorite songs came on the radio. You know, one of those songs from my teen years; one of those songs that I know all the words to. So I had no choice; I cranked up the radio and started singing at the top of my lungs. There I was--rock star Dr. Joey! I stopped at a traffic light, song blaring, me singing and tapping out the back beat on the steering wheel...and you know what happened next, don’t you? Yep, I glanced beside me and the people in the car next to me were laughing their heads off! They had put their windows down to listen and laugh. Well, I started laughing, too, turned down the radio and shouted over to them, “Sometime you just gotta sing along!” And you do! Listen to life today and make a positive life, not just a living, in a negative world and as you do, sing along! A public service message brought to you by

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TAKES ACTION ON RADON GAS TO PREVENT LUNG CANCER IN 2013. JANUARY DESIGNATED NATIONAL RADON AWARENESS MONTH January is Radon Action Month according to The Surgeon General. Health agencies throughout the United States have joined forces to promote awareness of the leading cause of lung cancer for nonsmokers. The American Lung Association, Centers for Disease Control, and National Cancer Institute all agree that radon is a National health problem and encourage radon testing during the January awareness drive.
