About This Month’s Cover
This photograph is so representative of Harbour Town Yacht
Basin, not just during the Verizon’s Heritage Classic, but through-
out the seasons. Magnificent yachts make their way into the har-
bour to enjoy the variety of shops, restaurants, watersports
activities and the ambiance of this world famous harbour. The
stately lighthouse with its history displayed on the walls as you
climb the steps to the top. The Top of the Lighthouse shop and the
viewing area all around are not to be missed while you are so
close. Glen McCaskey, the photographer, is a master of scenic
shots such as this. Look for more of his work at The Top of the
Lighthouse. See you at the top.

ALCOHOL, SPEED LIMITS AND THE LAW
A word of concern from WHERE TO GO. We care about
you and your safety. There is nothing pleasant about spending
your vacation in the Beaufort County Jail. They are nice folks
over there, but there is no “Happy Hour” (and they do not
accept VISA or MasterCard) In fact, we can almost guarantee
you will NOT have a good time.
DUI’s go directly to jail. They do cross the bridge, but
they do NOT collect $200. In fact, you may end up paying
that amount. And SC law prohibits open containers of
any alcoholic beverages in the passenger section of your
car. Judge Rita Simmons, is very personable, but you do
not want to see her in court.
The speed limit on the Island is 45 mph with 35 posted in
many areas. Our Law Enforcement team is very effective so do
not exceed the limit. Believe me, they do not want to “make
your day.” The speed limit coming onto the Island is 55 mph
TOPS. It’s 45 at the foot of the bridge and they mean it! Watch
it on the Cross Island Expressway, and especially on Palmetto
Bay Rd. Unmarked Thunderbirds are watching for you and
their sole reason for existence is writing tickets.
It would be smart not to mix boating & alcohol.
The Beaufort County Marine Patrol may be watching
you. Be smart &safe. And watch those no wake zones.
BAR AND LIQUOR LAWS
Package stores are identified by the red dot. They close at
7:00 p.m. Mon-Sat. Closed on Sunday. You may buy an alco-
holic beverage Sundays in most restaurants serving food.
Beer & wine are available Sundays at the grocery

Where To Play Tennis
T
he following racquet clubs invite
you to enjoy their hospitality and
the congeniality that tennis players
create both on the court and off. If
you’re looking for a partner, call the
club of your choice, chances are
you’ll have a match with a player
with a compatible rating before the
sun goes down. The popular
“Stroke of the Day” programs for
adults as well as children, with
lessons from top instructors, plus
special tennis packages, the finest
in court surfaces, video taping for
review after you return home &
numerous other advantages are but
a few of the reasons you’ll love play-
ing tennis on Hilton Head Island.

Daufuskie Island & Eco Dolphin Trips
Calibogue Cruises Tours
BROAD CREEK
MARINA
4 trips daily to Daufuskie Island. All trips are fully narrated
dolphin watches.
• You can choose to go just for the ride or get off on Daufuskie,
the ‘Island of Mystique’.
• Once on the island, you can take our two-hour historic bus
tour given by one of the locals and considered the island’s
best-narrated tour.
• Perhaps you would prefer to self-tour by renting a golf cart for
3 or 6 hours (beach comb, look for arrowheads, search for old
relics, shark’s teeth, etc. on one of the most beautiful beach-
es on the eastern seaboard.)
• Visit the Freeport General Store & The Old Daufuskie Crab
Company right where the boat docks at the boat landing at
Freeport Marina. Indoor and outdoor dining. Gullah lunch
buffet, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. A full menu that
includes the famous Daufuskie Deviled Crab, as well as
steaks to hamburgers is available Tuesday thru Sunday.
