TODAY’S GAME: The Generals (10-13) wrap up the five-game series (2-1) in Chattanooga, with a doubleheader at AT&T Field. This is the second twin bill of the season and Jackson is 1-1 in seven inning games this season. RHP Chance Ruffin will make his fifth start of the season in game one and LHP Anthony Fernandez will make his season debut starting in the second game. YOU ALREADY KNOW...that Abraham Almonte became the first Jackson player to hit for a cycle in a game in franchise history But, DID YOU KNOW?...that 2009-2010 Jackson infielder Carlos Triunfel hit for the cycle for Triple-A Tacoma on April 17th against Fresno. That cycle was the first for a Tacoma player since Raul Ibanez did in 1997. GENERALS RECAP: CF/RF Abraham Almonte (4x5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI) finished off a 4-hit night Saturday with a double in the top of the 9th making him the first player in Jackson franchise history to hit for the cycle. 1B Steven Proscia (3x5, 3 R, 3B), LF Leon Landry (2x4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB), SS Brad Miller (2x5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) and DH James Jones (2x5, R, RBI) each recorded 2 of the Generals 17 hits. Starter Roenis Elias (6.0,4,1,1,3,6) recorded his first AA win, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 6 in 6.0 innings. RH Moises Hernandez (2.0,1,0,0,0,2) and LH Kyle Hunter (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) combined to strikeout 4 batters in 3.0 scoreless innings in relief to secure the win. HITTING FOR THE CYCLE: Abraham Almonte (4x5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI) completed the cycle on Saturday night at Chattanooga. It was the first cycle in Jackson franchise history, dating back to 1998, when the Generals were known as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. But it was the 2nd cycle in 10 days for a Mariners prospect after Carlos Triunfel accomplished the feat for Triple-A Tacoma on April 17. Almonte hit a solo homer in in the third inning, a bases-loaded triple in the 4th inning, and singled in the 5th and got his 4th RBI of the evening. After being called out on strikes in the 6th inning, Almonte lined a 2-2 pitch to right field for a double to complete the cycle. WHO’S HOT: RHP Taijuan Walker has allowed only 1 earned run in his last 4 starts (5 R), loweing his season ERA from 7.20 to 1.55. Overall this season, he is 2-2 with a 1.55 ERA (5 ER, 29.0 IP) in 5 starts. He has limited opponents to a .150 (15x100) average, while walking 18 and striking out 32. • C John Hicks has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .350 (14x40) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 4 RBI. • INF Brad Miller has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 games, batting .321 (9x28) with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 4 RBI. • OF Leon Landry has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .310 (13x42) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI. • INF Steven Proscia has hitvsafely in his last 4 games, batting .438 (7x16) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, home run and 1 RBI. NORTHERN EXPOSURE: After facing South Division opponents during the first 20 games of the season, Jackson is now in the midst of playing 20 of 25 games against fellow Northern Division foes. START ME UP: The Generals’ starting rotation currently leads the SL with a 2.04 ERA. As a whole, Jackson’s pitching staff has a league-best 2.84 ERA through the first 23 games. CLOSE CALLS: So far this season, 13 of the Generals first 23 games have been decided by one Jackson Managerial Wins run. Jackson is 4-9 in those games. Jackson is also 2-2 in extra inning games this season. Bobby Dickerson (‘02-‘05) (CHC) 291 “PANK” MOVING ON UP: Coming back for his 3rd season, Manager Jim Pankovits becomes the Jim Pankovits (‘11-’13) (SEA) 157 second-longest tenured Jackson manager. 1934 Pittsburgh becomes the last major league city to play a home game on a Sunday. Benny Frey gets the victory when the Pirates beat Cincinnati at Forbes Field, 9-5. 1978 The Cardinals tie a franchise record for the quickest nine-inning game played in their history taking only one-hour and thirtythree minutes to beat the Dodgers at Busch Stadium, 1-0.
