Step has been a fitness favorite for 18 years for very good reasons. While it is designed to strengthen knees, it’s a fabulous cardiovascular workout. Step uses many more muscles than any other type of cardio training, thus reducing the risk of overuse injuries. Plus, the effort made to learn the moves is actually wonderful for the brain. While this class is designed for people who are familiar with Step, anyone who is interested should sign up as you will become quite comfortable with the moves within a few weeks. Walter

Every other Friday we devote to stretching and core exercises to improve flexibility and balance. Class size is small so you get individual attention, encouragement and coaching. We meet every weekday morning from 5:45 to 6:45 a.m. at Williamsburg Middle School. No class if APS are closed due to inclement weather. If you’re ready to get fit, meet fun people and be pushed harder than you will push yourself, Femmes FITales is for you.

Are You Taking a Swimming Class?
Arlington County is proud to provide lessons that are based on the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. When registering please make sure participants can complete all necessary prerequisites prior to beginning the class. Students who are not at the right level hinder the classes’ ability to function. Everyone progresses at different speeds, so it is typical to repeat courses. Public Health requires pools to close when contaminated. Swim diapers or snug-fitting plastic pants must be worn by anyone who is incontinent. Also please do not eat within 30 minutes of swimming. When registering for a class you are ONLY allowed to swim during the class time, there will be no swimming allowed to class participants before or after the class session unless the customer pays a general admission or has a monthly or annual pass. For more information on Swimming classes visit our website and search: SWIMMING.

Children who have successfully completed Mini-Fin or have comparable skills will learn to coordinate front and back crawl and more advanced safety skills like treading water. By the end of the course, participants should be able to comfortably swim 15 yards of front and back crawl with rhythmic breathing. Inst.: Staff

Registration Process

Reduced Fees

Class fee reductions are available on a sliding scale based on household income and size. Anyone who is an active financial assistance client of Arlington County’s Department of Human Services or APS free/reduced lunch program, as well as others who are below the threshold of the currently published HUD’s Section 8 income limits, may apply for a reduced fee. Annual income verification is required. For application qualifications, guidelines and procedures, call 703-228-4747 or go to the Registration Office (3700 Four Mile Run Dr.), or any of our other fee reduction processing locations on page 16. All refunds can only be requested through the Registration Office at 703-228-4747 and all requests should be made prior to the start of the second class. No refunds or credits after the second class has started. No refunds or credits if participants are unable to attend a class or one session class or workshop. Refunds will be subject to a $20 administrative fee and will be processed within 30 days. Credit card charges will be refunded directly to the credit card. Full refunds will be processed within 30 days when classes are canceled by DPR due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen reasons, or upon request when schedule or location changes made by DPR prohibit or limit your attendance. Refunds for medical reasons must be accompanied by a physician’s note and shall be considered on a case by case basis.

Arlington County is committed to providing open and accessible programs to all of our residents. If you require a reasonable accommodation, for a disability please call 703-228-4740 or email trinfo@arlingtonva.us. Advanced notice is preferred.

Age Exemptions

Changes, Cancellations and Closings

Exemptions to the ages listed in the catalog must be approved by the instructor at least one week in advance. Verify the dates of birth of all registrants prior to registration, and please do not enter an incorrect date of birth in order to bypass an age restriction. Participants who fall outside the age requirements for a class may be removed.

Refunds

Fees

Classes may be cancelled for a variety of reasons: low enrollment, on County holidays, in case of storms or other dangerous conditions, or at the discretion of the instructor. Due to the early publication deadline, instructors may be changed before classes begin. Please keep your household contact information up to date; if classes are cancelled due to low enrollment, we will use that information to contact you one-week prior to the start date. DPR classes are also automatically cancelled if Arlington schools are closed or close early due to weather conditions. Watch Arlington information channel 74 or other local media stations for details or call 703-228-4715.

Online Registration

Online registration volume in Summer is expected to be high for the first 5-10 minutes.  We have worked to minimize unexpected session timeouts; however, system response time between screens may be slow, and we appreciate your patience. If you experience a technical problem, please send us a detailed email including name of participant and best contact information at registration@arlingtonva.us. All emails will be compiled and resolved within 5 business days. To make the process smoother, please set up or review your account in advance, and be ready to register on or after May 22nd. Have your credit card information handy, know your login ID and password and pre-identify the classes for which you will be registering. High demand classes fill quickly, we encourage you to have alternate session choices in mind, and enroll in the waitlist. Idle web sessions time out after 5 minutes.  If your session times out or you logout, all pending registrations in your household are removed.  This impacts ALL users who are logged into your account at that time. We strongly recommend that you have only one computer logged into your household account when you are registering.

Payment is required at time of registration. Checks or money orders are payable to Treasurer, Arlington County. The registrant’s name, address and phone number must appear on each check. Pursuant to Arlington County Code, an assessment fee of $50 is charged for a returned check. Acceptable charge payments are VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Arlington residents 62 and over receive a 30% discount on the fee shown in the Enjoy Arlington catalog unless otherwise stated.

High Demand Classes

High Demand classes are indicated with an c HD beside the class name. Due to their high demand, non-residents pay a $25 additional fee to help ensure spots for Arlington residents.

Important Registration Changes

Please note that as of Summer 2013 we will no longer process faxed registration forms. Please note that as of Summer 2013 we will no longer accept American Express.
