Soil moisture sensor(transistor amplifier) 2. Light sensor LDR (Light dependent resistance) 3. • The sensors used in this system are : 1. Temperature sensor (LM 35) .BLOCK DIAGRAM OF MONITOR AND CONTROL OF GREEN HOUSE ENVIRONMENT STRUCTURE AND CONFIGURATION: • A transducer is a device which measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument .

• The voltage output taken at the transmitter which is connected to a variable resistance . This variable resistance is used to adjust the sensivity of the sensor. • LIGHT SENSOR Light dependent resistance also known as photoconductor or photocell is a device which has a resistance which varies according to the amount of light falling on its surface • • • FEATURES OF THE LIGHT SENSOR The light dependent resistor is made using the semiconductor cadmium sulphide. This is known as a negative co-efficient. two copper leads as the sensor probes and transistor. . It increases with increase in the water content of the soil. The light falling on the brown zigzag light on the sensor causes the resistance of the device to fall. • • It gives a voltage output corresponding to the conductivity of the soil.fixed resistance 100 ohm . The conductivity of the soil depends upon the amount of moisture present in it .• • • SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR Feature of the soil moisture sensor: The circuit designed uses a 5v supply .variable resistance of 10kohm.

The design is quite flexible as the software can be changed any time. humidity. It communicates with the various sensor modules in real-time in order to control the light. CIRCUIT DIAGRAM: . Low maintenance and low power consumption.irrigation . 12. Facility to remotely monitor the greenhouse is not possible. 4. fans. SCOPE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT: 1) The performance of the system can be further improved in terms of the operating speed. Requires uninterrupted power supply. lighting . The system is more compact compared to the existing ones. 11. hence is easily portable. DI SADVANTAGES : 1. 8.immediately. Natural resource like water saved to a great extent. 3. memory capacity. the system will adjust the heating. No self-test system to detect malfunction of sensors. Provides a user-friendly interface hence will have a greater acceptance by the technologically unskilled workers. Labour saving. User is indicated for changes in actuator state thereby giving an option for manual override. Closed loop design prevents any chances of disturbing the green house environment. Can be easily modified for improving the setup and adding new features. instruction cycle period of the microcontroller by using other controllers . 10. Low cost system. 6. 4.Sensors used have high sensitivity and are easy to handle. 2. 9. 5. 13. Malfunctioning of single sensor will not affect the whole system. 3. Complete automation in terms of pest and insect detection and eradication cannot be achieved. Can be used for different plant species by making minor changes in the ambient environmental parameters. In response to the sensors.ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES: 1. hence protect greenhouse from damage. 2. 7. providing maximum automation.

4) This system can be connected to communication devices such as modems. to reduce the requirement of main AC power. the required technology and components are available. i. the wider acceptance of electronic systems in agriculture. Theresults obtained from the measurement have shown that the system performanceis quite reliable and accurate. cellular phones or satellite terminal to enable the remote collection of recorded data or alarming of certain parameters. 3) A speaking voice alarm could be used instead of the normal buzzer. 2) The system can be modified with the use of a data logger and a graphical LCD panel showing the measured sensor data over a period of time. The system has successfully overcome quite a few shortcomings of the existingsystems by reducing the power consumption. 6) Time bound administration of fertilizers. Further improvements will be made as less expensive and morereliable sensors are developed for use in agricultural production.7) A multi-controller system can be developed that will enable a master controller along with its slave controllers to automate multiple green houses simultaneously. many such systems have been independently developed. integration of all these technologies is not a daunting task and can be successfully carried out . and an emerging agriculturalcontrol system industry in several areas of agricultural production.Although the enhancements mentioned in the previous chapter may seem far inthe future.e. Also. soil moisture. or are at least tested at a prototype level. The continuously decreasing costs of hardware and software. has been followed. and light intensity. insecticides and pesticides can beintroduced. The number of channels can be increased to interface more number of sensors which is possible by using advanced versions of microcontrollers. at thesame time providing a flexible and precise form of maintaining the environment. 5) The device can be made to perform better by providing the power supply with the help of battery source which can be rechargeable or non-rechargeable.such as AVRs and PICs.temperature. maintenance and complexity. will result inreliable control systems that will address several aspects of quality and quantityof production. CONCLUSION: A step-by-step approach in designing the microcontroller based system for measurement and control of the four essential parameters for plant growth. humidity.
