About the author
Xander Richards was born in Europe but now lives in Canada. The idea for ‘COAST: An Act Of Burial’ was conceived in the eighties but lay fallow due to the pressures of life. Nonetheless, the story stayed with Richards over the next two decades. The novel was finally released in May 2012 and a year later was awarded the CBC Bookies Award for ‘the Canadian Book You Couldn’t Put Down’. The cover painting was created by Canadian artist Jonathon Earl Bowser, whose picture ‘The Awakening’ was famously stolen by Saddam Hussein for his novel ‘Zabibah and the King’. Despite sharing a cover artist with a notorious dictator, Xander Richards describes himself as ‘an ordinary fella with regular interests and pastimes’. These include cars, photography, movies and garage sales. Xander lives in Saskatchewan with his wife Mindy.
“Don't you see how this could escalate?! Now the sub will know that NATO's onto them. The captain'll order a defence readiness condition and call it in. All it takes is some weapons officer making a simple mistake!”

On winning the CBC Bookies Award: What a privilege to be nominated alongside such great books and writers! If readers are liking what I'm doing, then I can ask for no more. What inspires you as a writer? Travel, good books, good movies and good music. I get a lot of my best ideas when I'm doing research for ideas I've already had. What are you hoping readers will take away from this book? I want them to feel like they've watched an action movie. Thankfully, this is a comment I get often.

Why did you write 'COAST: An Act Of Burial'? I had a great story idea that wouldn't go away for twenty years. I reached a point where I would either knuckle down and write it, or do my best to forget it. I'm very glad I chose the former. On the process of writing: If you've ever thought about being a writer, just do it. Don't wait as long as I did. You have a story to tell and someone, somewhere is yearning to read it. Are your characters based on anyone? They definitely have their own unique personalities and idiosyncrasies but they have some traits borrowed from people I've known. There's a little of me in them as well.

COMMUNICATIONS MONITORING
What are readers saying about the book?
"I would recommend this book and the author to any reader in a heartbeat. So, stop reading this review and buy the thing already. It's that good."
—MaryAnn Koopman, Amazon.

"It sounds ridiculous that a new novelist can come within a mile of Fleming, but just as they said there'll never be another Tolkien or Stoker or Creasey, sure enough there comes along a Jordan, Rice, and Grisham. Add Richards to your list of great storytellers to keep an eye on." — Devon Hennig, Goodreads. "Reading this novel is similar to sitting down to watch a summer blockbuster!"
— Brandon Sears, Every Read Thing.

"Readers who enjoy military suspense, gutsy heroes, and action - packed adventures should buy this book. There are heroes like these men protecting us every day, and this novel helps us appreciate their sacrifice."
— Diane Rapp, author of 'Howl Of The Wolf'.

"This is an action-packed international espionage thriller ... a fabulous war against terrorism tale!" — Harriet Klausner, The Mystery Gazzette / Follow The Clue. "With vivid description and well paced action, COAST: An Act of Burial sustains the reader’s attention like Pavlov’s dogs to the ringing of a bell. Not only is the conflict strong, but there is a wonderful blend in of humour to lighten the mood of the story. Richards creates a remarkable balance between dark and light in this superb espionage tale." — Mary Stoery, Goodreads. "Non-stop action from the very first page kept you on your toes ... Didn't want to put the book down ... Cannot wait until the next book in the series!"
— Avvie Cunnington, Goodreads.

"Richards keeps you well anchored with an unusually strong sense of place – rather like he is recalling events that actually happened (and he did slyly raise an eyebrow at me when I jokingly suggested as much to him in one of our design meetings)." — Jonathon Earl Bowser, cover artist. "There are action sequences which are mind blowing, fast-paced, authentic and draw the reader right in. This is a book you will not likely want to set down, I guarantee it!" — Albertina Hamby, reader. "This is non-stop action thriller with very exciting and well - written action parts . The three main characters are living people with their good and bad sides clearly shown. The author served in the military, and it shows during the description of weaponry: Mr. Richards knows what he talks about." — Evgeny, Goodreads. "An action-packed adventure that cleverly combines classic, contemporary fiction with a spinechilling twist. For those who are interested in nuclear battles, secret services and acts of bravery as one would encounter in a Bond film, then you will certainly be in for a treat! The author’s writing is accomplished and professional, with this well - written, realistic tale being first- class."
— Lucinda Fountain, Goodreads.
