Jake is eighteen years old and he lives with his family.Jake arrives at Euston station in London. He is very happy. Now he is in London.' he thinks. 'I can go to the Notting Hill Carnival and I can see some interesting places from the bus too. . He stops and looks at his map. It is a holiday weekend and it is his first time away from Manchester.

' Jake thinks. The children are standing at the windows. They are looking for famous places.' their mother answers. 2 .' 'They're going to Notting Hill too. 'Look! There's Madame Tussaud's! Can we go there?' 'Not today. 'We're going to the carnival.Jake is sitting on a red London bus behind a big family.

It is a hot afternoon and Jake is sitting on a bench in Notting Hill. 'Does the carnival start here?' Jake asks Mel.' з . Suddenly. They have balloons and drams in their hands. 'Yes. near here. he sees some people in costumes. Look at the floats!' she says. a girl in a green dress. 'Listen to the music! The procession is starting.

'But it's OK now.a little problem with my job. 'Quickly.' The band moves slowly down the street. The young men on the float shout to her. a tall girl runs to the first float. Her costume is yellow and red and she has feathers in her hair. 4 . Maria! You're late!' 'Sorry .Suddenly.' she says.

He can only see Maria. 5 . Suddenly. It's love! Jake's new friends are standing and waiting for him. he knows. Mel talks to Jake but he doesn't hear her. Their eyes meet and she smiles at him.Jake looks at the beautiful tall girl in her carnival costume. She looks at Maria and she understands. But he walks away from them.

On the floats people are dancing to the music. There is a lot of music. Some people in the street are dancing too.The carnival procession moves down the street. He can't stay with Maria's float. lake is running but there are crowds of people near him. noise and colour. How can he meet this beautiful girl? Who is she? ь .

But )ake ean't hear her! The band is playing and people are shouting. 'I'm Jake.' she answers. Jake! I'm Maria. 'Hi.Maria looks down and sees Jake again. He has a friendly face and she likes him too. 'Can I telephone you? What's your number?" She gives a big smile. What's your name?' he shouts. 7 .

The procession goes near a street cafe. He takes the camera and runs quickly after the float. His wife is watching him. A tourist is standing on a chair. please!' 8 . Jake sees a camera on the table. People are drinking coffee at tables on the street. He wants a photograph of Maria. He is making a film of the carnival. 'Maria! Maria! I want a photo! Smile.

he hears the music from the band. He sees Maria's float and shouts. 9 . There are crowds of people in the street and Jake can't see Maria now.The procession is moving slowly. 'I can run down a quiet street and find her float. Suddenly. He is near the procession now. 'Maria! I'm here!' She sees him and she waves. He tries the first street.' he thinks.

he has my camera!' he says. 'Look! That's him and that's my camera!' 10 ..The tourist finds a policeman. yes. Can you see him now?' 'It's very difficult in this crowd. But wait. 'A young man in a red T-shirt . I understand.. I can see him! There he is!' Jake is standing on a bench. 'Yes.

' the policeman says.Jake puts his photograph of Maria in his pocket. He is happy now. young man.' 11 . The policeman and the tourist run to him. it's my camera. Jake's face is red. I only want one photo.' the man says. 'Come down. 'Is that your camera?' 'No. Now he has a problem. 'Sorry. Here's your camera.

' they say. can he go?' 'No.'I'm very sorry. Please. 'I never do this. 'We have our camera now. I can't do that. The tourists think of their son and suddenly they are unhappy too.' the policeman says.' Jake thinks of his mother and he is very unhappy. 12 . 'He isn't a bad boy.' Jake says.

13 . a train ticket. 'Now. . . in your pockets you have . Jake takes the photo from his back pocket and gives it to the sergeant.73.Jake is standing in front of a police sergeant. He is surprised. The sergeant looks at the photograph for a long time.' the first policeman says. Is that all?' 'Let's see this important photo. a pen. a map. £5.

'Where's Policewoman Day?' the sergeant asks. 'Please come in.' a policeman says. Send her in.' The policeman walks to the door and says. 'Do you want her?' 'Yes.' 14 . We have a problem. 'No. 'She's at the doctor's. Policewoman Day.' a policewoman says. she's here again now.

Why? Jake doesn't understand. 'Here you are at the doctor's . 'It's you!' they say at the same time.The policemen look at the photo and they smile. They are very surprised. He looks at her.or perhaps the carnival?' 15 . 'Look at this photo. She looks at Jake. The door opens and Policewoman Day comes in. Maria.' the sergeant says.
