2mm Ancients for DBA based to 15mm sizes

When I f irst started using 2mm blo cks f o r A ncient games I based them individually o n 20mm f ro ntage bases. A ltho ugh this had the advantage o f making it po ssible to play games o n a handkerchief -sized battlef ield, i t did make them awkward to handle and to o small f o r my aged gaming mates to see. Havi ng f i nally taken the hint af ter seeing so me o ther gamers' ef f o rts at using 2mm o n 15mm bases I decided to re-base. T he f o llo wing pho to s and no tes are the result. Bases T he bases are all standard sized 15mm scale DB A bases. T he bases are made f ro m a dense and rigid card glued (with P V A ) o nto magnetic sheet (f o r ease o f sto rage and transpo rt). T he texturing is actually co lo ured sand (sprinkled o nto thinned P V A ) o ver the pai nted base. Base Layout I have tried to use the same number o f blo cks per base as there wo uld be 15mm f igures but thi s is mo dif ied a bit in so me cases (e.g. Elephants). Where po ssible I have also attempted to make the base into a bit o f a dio rama so that i t actually represents the 'lo o k' o f the tro o p type. B ecause o f the size and relative lack o f detail, I have also attempted to make dif f erent element types distinguishable f ro m each o ther. In so me cases, no tably Blades, I have since tho ught o f better layo uts so I will no te these i n the appro priate places. Generals' elements are distinguished by, well, a general added. I used the A B G5 (Ro man) general with blo cks painted in o ne co lo ur and A B G11 (B arbarian) f o r less regularly painted blo cks.

Abov e : Bd4 & Bd4 General - Use either A B G1 or A B G2 T he General's base has the two sets o f 2 blo cks separated, I no w think this is a better arrangement f o r B d4 - it makes them disti nguishable f ro m S p4. Do n't kno w why I didn't do that in the f irst place. Below : Bd3 Uses the same blo cks as the Bd4 but this time painted in rando m co lo urs and hints o f armo ur as dismo unted K nights o r V ikings perhaps.

Abov e & below : S p4 - Use A B G18 T he General in the f ro nt base wo uld be better placed in f ro nt o f the so lid 2-ranks o f spearmen. T hat way B d & S p wo uld be mo re easily distinguished f ro m each o ther. T he lo wer picture has irregular spearmen, thei r shields and tunics pai nted in rando m co lo urs.
