REFLO A
Breakthrough Ammonia Refrigeration Compressor Fluid Performance
2008 Petro-Canada
18
Disadvantages:
higher oil carryover results in higher oil consumption higher solvency in ammonia refrigerant can decrease system efficiency and performance lower oil viscosity protection against wear at high temperatures prices are increasing and availability is decreasing since several naphthenic oil producers exited the market
Although Naphthenic oils have been used effectively for decades, newer fluid technologies offer superior performance benefits.
2008 Petro-Canada
19
Disadvantages:
much higher price shrinkage of seals may occur in some refrigeration compressor systems
And while synthetic oils offer significant performance benefits, their high cost can be prohibitive.
2008 Petro-Canada

Petro-Canada uses an unmatched 3-step approach to create a superior refrigeration compressor fluid.
The p purer the base oil, , the better the final lubricant
performance.
2008 Petro-Canada
21
Step 1: We select the best feedstock to ensure the p y maximum level of purity
We differentiate ourselves by choosing the highest quality feedstock that maximizes lubricant base oil production
2008 Petro-Canada
22
As pioneers of Grp II and Grp III Base Oils, Oils Petro-Canada has taken a leading approach to the manufacturing of our PURITY* base oils While others may use similar base oil refinery processes, we operate our units to the highest degree of severity and choose the right catalyst th b ensuring thereby i th the maximum i l level l of f purity it The patented HT purity process eliminates the impurities present in the oil by blowing them apart. The best molecules are further purified or re-combined through the use of hydrotreating Net Result: A Base Oil that is 99.9% 99 9% pure the worlds highest purity level
2008 Petro-Canada 23
Step 3: We select the right additives to further enhance our base oils long life performance
Our leading edge R&D team have over 25 years formulation experience with PURITY* base oils. They select the right additives to create innovative and advanced products - many of which represent breakthrough technologies in their field. Products that go: BEYOND TODAYS STANDARDS

The result is REFLO A A market leader that provides reliable, long-term performance with significant operational cost savings. Lower oil volatility can reduce fluid consumption by up to 80% or more more. Lower solubility in ammonia can improve refrigeration system efficiency and performance. performance Superior thermal and oxidation stability can extend fluid life, reducing maintenance i t costs t and d downtime. d ti High viscosity index (VI) ensures strong protection from wear over a wider range of operating temperatures.

REFLO A Application
Reflo A is specifically formulated for Ammonia refrigeration sump type systems used in commercial operations;
however can be used in R-12 system not operating below -20C but not recommended for R-22 (HCFC) systems
compressors Compatible with mineral oils i.e. Naphthenic oils Available in ISO VG 46 and 68 NSF H2 and CFIA approval

REFLO 68A separates from the ammonia gas and does not
circulate through the system. With other fluids, I had to change filters every 3 to 6 months. Im not even going to replace the filters on my equipment now. Its saving my company a lot of money. Johan Muller Technical Manager

REFLO As high viscosity index (VI) ensures strong protection from wear over a wide temperature p p range. g
REFLO A has a significantly higher viscosity index than naphthenic compressor fluids. As a result, REFLO A maintains its viscosity and does not thin out as much at high temperature. A higher viscosity at high temperature provides better protection against wear.

Aromatics in the base stock impacts oil solubility with the ammonia. Therefore lower levels of aromatics as seen in REFLO A can results in lower oil carryover and reduced maintenance costs.
% A r o m a t ic s
REFLOs purity results in less oil carryover to the refrigeration systems low temperature side. Lower oil carryover also reduces sludging and deposit formation in evaporators, which lowers compressor maintenance costs costs.
