Dr Suryanatha U Kamath

Dr Suryanatha Upendra Kamath is a renowned historian, researcher, respected lecturer & author of many books in Kannada, English & Hindi. Dr Suryanatha U Kamath was born in a Konkani-speaking Gauda Saraswat Brahmin family on April 26, 1937 in Belthangady of Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka. He graduated from Karnataka University, Dharwad with Masters in Economics & History in 1959. He got Doctorate in History from Mumbai University in 1965. Career: He started his career in teaching as Lecturer in History at APS College, Bangalore from 1967 to 1968. He was the Lecturer and Reader in History, Bangalore University from 1968 to1981. He was the Chief Editor of Karnataka Gazetteer from 1981 to 1995. He was also the Director of Karnataka State Archives from 1981 to 1983 Specializing in Social and Economic History. He also edited the Karnataka District Gazetteers since 1977, and has been the editor of the Quarterly Journal of the Mythic Society. He founded the Karnataka Ithihasa Academy in 1985. He is also a member of the Karnataka Gazetteer Advisory Committee. He is the director of the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Public Library in Calcutta from 1999. Dr. Suryanatha Kamath is respected for his encyclopedic knowledge of Karnataka and Indian history and has spent his lifetime in research and writing books. Even though his mother tongue is Konkani, most of his works are in Kannada. He has authored more than 60 books in Kannada, English & Hindi. His fields of interests include Indian History, research, literature, stories, novels, essays etc. His works have enriched Kannada literature to a great extent. His works are as follows
