Swain ABOUT THE INSTITUTE: The Banaras Hindu University was the first University in India to introduce the teaching of pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry, and pharmacognosy for the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1932. In 1936, the two years course was replaced by a three years course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy. In 1941 and 1945, M. Pharm. and Ph. D. courses were introduced in the department. Presently, the department is privileged to be a part of the IIT system and this is the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) imparting Pharmacy Education. ABOUT SELF: Dr.Sushant Kumar Shrivastava is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Department of Pharmaceutics, Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi (U.P). He has around 19 years of teaching and 13 years research experience. He was born in the year 1969 in a small town (Mau Nath Bhanjan), which is now a district of Uttar Pradesh. He was educated in Madhya Pradesh. He completed his graduation (B. Pharm.) and post graduation (M. Pharm.) from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.) in the years 1991 and 1993 respectively. He then joined the teaching profession at L. M. College of Science and Technology, Jodhpur (Raj.) and simultaneously completed his Ph. D. in the year 2000 from SGSITS, Devi Ahilya Viswavidyalaya, Indore (M.P) under the mentoring and able guidance of Prof. Piyush Trivedi (Presently, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Bhopal) who developed the values of scientific research, principles and morals of education in him. Prof. Shrivastava served the L. M. College of Science and Technology (Pharmacy) as Lecturer, Sr. Lecturer and Reader up to the year 2003. He joined the revered seat of learning and the prestigious Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi as a Reader in the year 2003 and became Professor in the year 2009. Prof. Shrivastava has guided 11 M. Pharm. and 03 Ph. D. students. Presently, 06 Ph.D. students are pursuing their research towards Ph. D. degree under his mentorship at IIT (BHU). Many graduate and post graduate students of Prof. Shrivastava are well placed in the industry as well as in academics and accomplishing their goals in life. Apart from teaching, Prof. Shrivastava has served his Institute as the Administrative Warden for 07 years. He has been a member of the BHU Vice Chancellor's Technical Cell from 2008 to 2011 and contributed significantly towards framing the Value Promotion Policy, Quality Assurance Policy and Environment Policy of Banaras Hindu University.
