Preparing to Serve in Papua New Guinea
I hope you’re doing so well! This month has found me bustling about, spending as much time as I can with people, and living off of lists! I recently read a message from a friend who’s already working in Papua New Guinea, and she spoke of a different kind of list. Her words were simple but struck a chord. She said: “Yesterday my heart was broken to see a wall with the names of over 300 languages in PNG still without any verse of Scripture written on it. The majority of them had ‘waiting’ listed next to the name. As I come to know and love Papua New Guineans (including my village-family, whose language was there), these are no longer just languages, but are now names and faces. ” Her words remind me how much work there is to be done and why we’re on this journey at all. This month’s newsletter has some exciting updates about the progress of that journey, and I hope you enjoy it! Let me know how you’re doing and how I can pray for you,
Provision & Praise!
April was a month of incredible provision! It was a month of knowing in my gut what it means when God calls us sheep — that we can be awkward waiters, capable of worrying about the details, and in need of a Shepherd with a guiding voice! These last few weeks, He has cut through so many little roadblocks, and has reminded me instead that this is a season of mile-markers. Every—every—impasse and hiccup has been met with provision, and I am GRATEFUL, both for the ways that He does this miraculously, and for the ways He is doing this through YOU!
Praise Him with me for these things:
My car broke down, and immediately I had access to a loan-vehicle for a whole week Many of you prayed with me for the increase of ministry partners, and that I would reach at least 50% before June so that I would be able to go to school this summer—Both are happening!! In five weeks, the team has grown from 35% to 52% and I have been accepted to the program to study this summer! Donors to the missions school provided some scholarship money for this summer’s attenders, and I have been granted some of it to cover my actual courses! Many, many of you have become prayer partners this last month, and your responses to the semi -weekly prayer updates are deeply encouraging! This support is a gift!
When I think about the wall my friend in PNG told me about, and how much the need truly outweighs the resolution right now, it’s easy to be overwhelmed! But I am reminded that change is already happening, and that IN OUR GENERATION, it is possible to completely close the gap for millions of people that do not know God because they cannot access His Words. There is a video, made by an affiliate of Wycliffe’s, that does a BEAUTIFUL job of portraying the BIG PICTURE. I’d love for you to see it! You can find it at:
Must they wait longer? What can we each do to bring His voice to the last languages..?
The next three weeks bring change!
I face goodbyes this week, as I leave my job at Land of a Thousand Hills once again. Next comes PACKING, and then a party at the very end of the month with a lot of extended family for my brother’s graduation(!) I leave for Canada the 1st week of June for a summer of intensive Linguistics courses! Keep up with me on my blog, which I’ll try to update as often as possible: http://mw-thequickening.blogspot.com and let me know if you would like prayer updates and are not already receiving them!
