PRACTICE SET-1 In each of the following questions a statement is given followed by two couses of action.

a cours e of action is a step or administrative decision to be taken for improvement. Follow up or further action in regard to the problem polity etc. on the basis of the information given in the statement. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true. And then decide which of the suggested courses of action logically follow (s) for pursuing. Read the statement carefully and give answer. Give Answer (1) Course of action I follow. Give Answer (2) Course of action II follows. Give Answer (3) if either Course of action I or II follows Give Answer (4) if neither Course of action I nor II follows. Give Answer (5) if both Course of action I and II follows. 1. Statement: An increased number of credit/debit card forgery cases have been recorded recently. Courses of action: I.The banks should make stricter verification to ensure the access to credit/debit card by the authorized person. II.The Bank should advice their customers to be more careful in dealing with plastic money. 2. Statement: Drinking and rave parties have become a fashion among the present college youth, which diverts them from their studies. Courses of action: I.The State Government should make it a rule to disallow the students from entering pubs and bars. II.The parents as well as the colleges should impose strict discipline among the college going youth. 3. Statement: Increasing competition on various fronts is putting children and youth under tremendous pressure, leading them to take extremely drastic steps. Courses of action: I.Children and youth along with their parents should be counseled for facing the competition in right spirit. II. Parents and teachers should be advised not to bring pressure on children. 4. Statement: power cuts in most parts of the country have put the students in tremendous difficulty during examination time. Courses of Action: I.Government should advise the public to make standby arrangement like generation and invertors. II.Parents of the students should take out a morcha to the state electricity boards in protest against power cuts. 5. Statement: Increasing construction of residential tower in the city is hampering the infrastructural arrangement like water supply, sewage system etc. Courses of action: I.Municipal authorities in the city should not permit construction of towers unless adequate provision for infrastructural facilities are made.

II. Concerned authorities should take stringent action against those builders who are violating the rules. 6. Statements: People in the locality were agitated as more than thirty people died in a building collapse. Courses of action: I.Government should immediately announce compensations for the affected families. II.Authorities should take a stringent action against builders tending to compromise over quality of material used. 7. Statement: More number of students passing SSC examination has resulted into frustration among children for not getting admissions into colleges of their choice. Courses of Action: I.Government should permit the colleges to increase the number of seats. II.children and their parents should be counseled for being flexible on the choice of college. 8. Statements: With the onset monsoon all the hospitals are getting increased number of patients due to various epidemics. Courses of Action: I.Civic authorities should educate the public the need for observing minimum required hygiene. II.Civic authorities should make arrangements to equip the hospitals with required medicine and other facilities. 9. Statements: Expensive clothes and accessories are becoming a growing need among college going teenage children of middle income group. Courses of action: I.colleges should introduce a dress code. II.Children should be counseled emphasizing the importance of many other things. 10. Statement: Misuse of subsidies offered to the farmers was observed and brought to the notice of the convened authorities. Courses of action: I.Government should issue orders to the concerned official to be stricter and more careful while verifying the required documents while granting subsidy. II.Government should take stringent action against those making false claims of subsidy. 11. Statement: There has been spurt of robbery and house-breaking incidents in one locality during the past fortnight. Courses of action: I.The local police station personnel should start patrolling the locality at regular intervals. II.The residents in the locality should be asked by the police authority not to leave their houses during the night. 12. Statement: Money has become more important than the game itself in the case of Indian cricket. Courses of action: I.government should put a cap on the earning from different sources of the Indian cricket board. Courses of action: I.The Municipal authority should advice living in the area not use water supplied through pipeline for drinking purpose. II.The local hospitals should be put on high alert to tackle the emerging crisis situation. 14. Statement: The quality of food grain being distributed in some parts of the country through public distribution system is very poor and not fit for human consumption. Courses of action: I.The entire stock of food grains should immediately be withdrawn form the distributed system. II.People should be advised to return the food grains purchased from the system and take their money back. 15. Statement: A large number of people gathered on the highway, blocking the traffic movement to protest the killing of five locals by a speeding vehicle. Courses of action: I.The police should fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. II.The police authority should clam down the sentiment of the crowd, assuring action against the culprit and deploy police personnel at the spot. 16. Statements: Cases of road accidents are increasing constantly, particularly in the urban area. Courses of action: I.Transport authorities in the urban areas should impose stringent norms for maintenance of vehicles. II. Traffic police should severely punish those found to be violating traffic rules. 17. Statement: Despite good economic progress of the country, significant number of undernourished children has been observed in the rural parts of the country. Courses of action: I.Government should increase wealth tax/income tax and use that money for pliftment of the deprived class. II.Government should introduce schemes like free meals in primary schools and make primary education compulsory. 18. Statement: Lunching of new brands of four wheelers in adding to the traffic congestion in the metro cities. Courses of action: I.Public should be encouraged to share their private vehicles while travelling to their work places. II.Govt. should levy heavy taxes on motor cars in metro cities. 19. Statement: Increasing levels of air pollution is creating health hazards for people living in the cities. Courses of action: I.All industries should be shifted to outskirts of the cities. II.Tansport authorities should take steps for converting all public tansprt vehicle to run on CNG.

20. Statement: Large numbers of college students are found to be focusing more on fashion than on studies. Courses of action: I.Colleges should impose restrictions on use of fashionable clothes and accessories. II.Colleges should keep the students busy enough with studies, so that they dont find time for the things like fashion. 21. Statement: The local college principal has ordered that all the students must strictly adhere to the dress code stipulated by the college authority in the admission brochure. Courses of action: I.Those students who are found to violate the dress code should be terminated from the college. II.Those students who are found to violate the dress code for the first time should be reprimanded and be warned against further violation. 22. Statement: The Railways have decided to repair the main tracks within the city on the following Sunday and have decided to suspend operations for the whole day. Courses of action: I.the railways authority should issue public notification well in advance to ease inconvenience to the passengers. II.All the long distance trains entering the city during the repair hours should be terminated outside the city limit. 23. Statements: Many motorists driving on the highway within the city are found to be driving much beyond the permissible speed limit. Courses of action: I.The traffic police officials should personality monitor the movement of vehicles on the highway within the city. II.The government should immediately put in place a mechanism to identify and punish erring drivers. 24. Statements: Majority of the city employees in the jobs to protest against inhuman treatment meted out to them by the company. Courses of action: I.The govt should immediately order the BPO company to close down its operation. II.The BPO company should shift its operations to some other place to continue its operations. 25. Statements: The management of the organization has issued a circular to all its employees sating that each employee must report for duty at 10.00A.M sharp and should remain in his/her workplace till 5.30 P.M everyday. Courses of action: I.The management should evolve a mechanism to identify such employees who may not adhere to the time schedule. II.All such employees who are failing to maintain time schedule should be summarily suspended.
