HEAD ACHE- WHAT IS IT?
A headache is a pain sensed in the nerves and muscles of the head and neck, as well as the meninges. Headaches are generally termed into two, primary and secondary. Primary headaches are not associated with any underlying medical condition. While secondary headaches are associated with medical conditions like infections, fever, head injury, hypoglycemia, tumors, dental conditions or increased pressure in the skull or sinuses. Migraine are a category of headaches that are caused due to a reduced blood flow to various areas of the cerebral cortex. For a while now, levels of serotonin; a neurotransmitter is believed to be a major reason for migraines. Another important group of headache is cluster headaches. The feature of this headache is that an intense pain will be felt, due to the dilation of blood vessels and there by creating a pressure on the trigeminal nerve. But the etiology is not fully understood in this case. Cranial neuralgia describes a group of headaches that occur because the nerves in the head and upper neck become inflamed and are the source of the head pain. Some times headaches can also be caused by too much blood flow, so any drugs for headaches usually contain some chemicals that hindering the blood flow. But this can be dangerous, once we stop administrating this drug after a prolonged usage, it will result in a serious headache.

meningitis, encephalitis, cerebral aneurysms, extremely high blood pressure, and brain tumors. Headaches can also be sensed when one is suffering from a head injury. In women fluctuating levels of estrogen in women can also be a reason for headaches. Tension headaches, sinus headaches and migraines are the most common kinds of headaches, these problems arose due to the tightening of the muscles around the neck and face. Pressure built up in the sinuses due to inability to drain off the fluids by the nose and due to excess dilation or constriction of the blood vessels of the head are the causes for sinus headaches.
