Environment: Product: Celerra File Server (CFS) Environment: Product: Celerra Network Server (CNS) Environment: EMC SW: NAS Code 6.0 Environment: Product: VNX5300 Environment: Product: VNX5500 Environment: Product: VNX5700 Environment: Product: VNX7500 Environment: EMC SW: VNX OE 7.0 Environment: Feature: Celerra Pre-upgrade Health Check (PUHC) Environment: Feature: Celerra Upgrade T ool (CUT) Problem: dm::check_CIFS_file_server_configuration Blades : Check DNS connectivity and configuration Warning HC_DM_18800115743: * server_2: The DNS service is currently stopped and does not contact any DNS server. T he CIFS clients may not be able to access the Data Mover on the network. * server_2: The DNS service is currently stopped and does not contact any DNS server. The CIFS clients may not be able to access the Data Mover on the network. Blades : Check connectivity to NTP servers Warning HC_DM_18800115743: * server_2: The Network Time Protocol subsystem (NTP) has been stopped or is not connected to its server. It may cause potential errors during Kerberos authentication (timeskew). * server_2: T he Network Time Protocol subsystem (NTP) has been stopped or is not connected to its server. It may cause potential errors during Kerberos authentication (timeskew). Blades : Check connectivity to NIS servers Warning HC_DM_18800115743: * server_2: The NIS domain 'hosts.pvt.dns' is defined with only one NIS server. If you lose this server, this would potentially impact CIFS, NFS or FTP. High availability is compromised. Celerra uses NIS to achieve mapping between CIFS and UNIX users. If you do not expect mapping to be done using NIS, ignore this error. For regular NFS services, nested groups defined in export lists require this service. For FTP, you could also encounter connection issues, if the authentication relies on NIS. Blades : Check connectivity to NIS servers Warning HC_DM_18800115743: * server_2: The NIS server '192.1.4.210' is not accessible on the network (no answer from 192.1.4.210). CIFS clients may encounter connection failures during login. Pre-upgrade health check found problem. Some Health Checks have multiple causes--the basic guidance for this particular Warning ID message is to follow the recommended "Actions" outlined in the description of the message: Action - If the DNS service is identified in the message output, perform the following command to Start the DNS service on the Data Mover, using the server_dns command. server_dns <server name> -o start If the DNS service is not configured for the Data Mover use the following command to configure it: server_dns <server name> -p <protocol name either udp or tcp > <dns domain name> < IP address of DNS server, IP address of next DNS server, ....> Action - If the NT P service is not running, start it using the server_date command. If it is not connected, check the IP address of the NTP server and make sure the NTP service is up and running on the server. If needed, add another NTP server in the configuration of the Data Mover. Use the server_date command to manage the NTP service and the parameters on the Data Mover. server_date { <movername> | ALL } timesvc start ntp [-sync_delay] [-interval <hh>[:<mm>]] [<host> [ <host> .. ]] server_date { <movername> | ALL } timesvc ( To check the status ) server_date { <movername> | ALL } timesvc update ntp ( To force immediate update ) Fix: See the man pages for the server_date command for additional options. Action - Add another NIS server using the 'server_nis' command. server_nis { <movername> | ALL } {<hostname>|<ip_addr>}[,{<hostname>|<ip_addr>}...] Action : If this check passed before and the configuration did not change, please retry in a few minutes. If not, check if this IP is really the IP of the NIS server, if the NIS server is online on the network, the Data Mover routing tables are well configured (use server_route for that), the network is not down, and all the network cables are plugged. Use the server_nis command to update the IP of the NIS server. T o test the functionality of the NIS server use either of the following two commands: # server_nis server_2 -status server_2 : NIS default domain: hosts.pvt.dns NIS Server 192.1.4.210 (current server) Online # server_nis server_2 192.1.5.2 server_2 : la2-2a = 192.1.5.2 ( performs a hostname / IP address lookup for the IP address or hostname entered ) ( To start the service )
