For OVER 50 YEARS the MLM INDUSTRY WAS BOOMING during EVERY ECONOMIC CRISIS

But NOT SO in the ECONOMIC CRISIS of 2007/2008 WHY?
What IS or better HAS REALLY BEEN happening with the MLM Industry world-wide? Our heavily researched opinion during the last 20 years of being involved in this one of a kind industry is that things are not as ”hot” as they used to be. Recent discoveries completely validated our findings about MLM and produced some unexpected surprises. MLM has been failing the majority of people involved!

Are industry rumours true that more than 90% of the people are failing to make enough money to break even?

Indeed the rumours are true and these true statistics (actually over 95%) of many years have had a profound effect on the entire industry world-wide.
Participants have not been receiving the training needed to be successful and what training there was and still is today, is then passed on by the 95% failures; this then creates more failure because it is given by people who themselves are failing to make a better income in MLM than a full-time job could provide.
 1

The above graph from Google trends shows the MLM trend from 2004 to the present; and based on our research and experience we believe it would indicate that this downward trend is caused by the failure training that is given by the 95 percenters who themselves are failing. That is Multi Level Marketing without effective marketing.

One must deeply contemplate this reality: Over 90% fail to break even and that same over 90% is doing training?
This can only produce the same results. However, mankind’s quest for independence and financial freedom is not destroyed that easily and in spite of all that MLM trauma, people from all walks of life and economic conditions continue to search for the next best thing, the next best product, the next best company or system that will create financial and time freedom. MLM originated from the United State of America where hype and overpromising advertising – the British refer to it as OTT = Over The Top advertising, is the norm; and since in most cases, participants are new to marketing and therefore do not have the skills to sell elegantly, one would have to understand that this OTT selling approach has almost become the Trademark of MLM. As has also what is commonly referred to as “Amway-mouth” (this is in no way an discredit to Amway by herein authors) – where some friends and family deliberately cross the street to avoid running into their friends or relatives knowing that they will again and again be subjected to endless pitches and insistence to come to meetings or join their latest activity. Our observation over the last 20 years is that this hype without help MLM Trademark

has produced a mass of people who were SOLD into the concept of MLM, SOLD on products, SOLD on company management, SOLD on commission plans BUT NOT taught or told the skills required to market and thus most simply had no idea that they had to evolve good marketing skills in order to succeed. Here are some of the great pitfalls of the age old MLM training being condoned by virtually every MLM company and every available book on the subject: 1) The 100-Name List The typical MLM training tells the new distributor to make a 100 name list of friends and relatives and approach them first. We can only imagine that whoever came up with that concept must have believed that it is easier to market to your friends and relatives than to strangers?

However, quite the opposite is true
History repeats itself regularly as in the life of almost every MLMer the following holds true: The first MLM programme one joins, more often than not, turns out to be more of a learning ground, and it is usually not until the third or fourth company that some begin to enjoy success. In the process most MLMers end up alienating their friends and family from the same 100-name list because of their “several company learning curve”. This then causes broken relationships with their friends and family and an industry that should really show much more success than it does. Let us take a small journey through time and the world of business start-ups: In order to be financially independent it is believed that one must go into business for themselves; and the published statistics of business start-ups are as follows: Out of a 1000 company start-ups, 10% make it past their second year; out of those 10% make it past 5 years; and of the remaining only 10% make it past their 10th year. These are disparaging results. When comparing these results with the odds of Franchising, one can easily see that there is more success in businesses where there are guidelines and manuals of how to run the company operations best (sometimes referred to as turn-key operations or cookie cutter businesses) and so 1/3 of Franchisees enjoys success, 1/3 break even and 1/3 fail. Then came MLM or Network Marketing; and here we see less than 5% success (success being the ability of raising one’s family and building financial independence) …

LESS THAN 5% --- WOW ?!?
WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO GET INVOLVED IF THEY KNEW AND UNDERSTOOD THESE PUBLISHED RESULTS?!

That brings us to NO TWO PROBLEM – the second very wrong concept and practice in the MLM industry, which I often hear taught or explained in this way: In order to be successful in MLM one must learn how to sell the products/services and present the compensation plan; and then learn how to teach another how to do the same; and then learn how to teach another how to teach another how to do the same. Let us dissect that statement together; first one must learn how to sell the product and teach the plan; then one must learn how to teach another (a new MLMer) to sell the product; but success can only be enjoyed when one has learned how to teach a new MLMer to teach the same to others. So we are talking about 3 different professions – a salesman – a teacher – and a “TrainTheTrainer” teacher! THIS IS QUITE A TASK TO ACCOMPLISH; and considering that good trainers are not built or raise in a short time, this is a daunting task – surely anything is possible, but suffice it to say as one of my teachers once taught me in a seminar where he used a board breaking exercise, “When you break a board, be sure to break it along the grain of the wood and not against the grain – anyway, why would you want to make it hard for yourself?!” In other words, there is no need to make anything harder for yourself than it is already considering all the block trained into most people from births to 12 (see later in this book to learn more about that) – so better chose the easier way to make your endeavors and activities ultimately successful. Expecting every new MLMer to sell and also to train others has lead to an incredible failure rate – a failure rate that the MLM industry cannot possibly be proud of, and in fact should be ashamed of!! What I have found though is that no one really wants to find the reasons for these failures; and so all the blame criticism for failure will go to the individual… and so one will hear the following: Oh, he or she is not focused, is lazy, does not come to meetings, did not do his 100-name list, is not doing presentations, has bad karma, and more… Can this in fact be true, when the failure rate is over 95% ? Remember 95% of the people were failing to break even and most of that 95% had some down line they were training and teaching; it is like… The Blind Leading the Blind. Marketing is the key and most MLM people have no clue about marketing; and are taught even less; perhaps the MLM companies are satisfied with the sales accomplished to their members / distributors as an end consumer rather than building them into a sales/marketing force to reach customers from all over the world.

Companies use MULTI LEVEL MARKETING methods to move their products but do not teach marketing. The whole MLM system is geared towards the movement of the companies, products and services of a company for profits and not for the members.

MLM

is still a huge growing Multi Billion dollar industry but it is not an industry serving its follower with integrity and honesty; but rather with the intent of any
other company to keep products moving and sales increasing and profits for the company increasing. Rather than to focus and concentrate on bettering the members or distributors, it seems that MLM companies are simply satisfied with the sales and profits accomplished. Many members give their hearts and minds in almost complete devotion to one single MLM company in pursuance of their dreams. In many cases this is NOT given because they have researched the company or know the entire scoop of what is required to succeed; and NOT because they study market trends, but in many cases they join because they are seeking a second income source; or they are simply up against the wall financially; or so tired of working more and more and having less and less; that they oftentimes jump on the very next MLM ship that comes along and usually sold into it by a friend or relative. Companies and members alike often do NOT study market trends or do their due diligence on the company – however, as long as people are on the quest of chasing their dreams and put up with what they are being fed in training and outdated support, there will continue to be a downward trend. MLM has typically come into popularity during economic down turns where people are driven to look at alternative sources of income. In the mid seventies MLM surged during economic crisis, in the mid 80’s it again surged to where it is today. It is interesting to note however that during the 2007 / 2008 economic crisis a most severe down turn that MLM is not surging or trending in its most popular regions like it has always has during past economic crisis. It is only trending upwards in areas where it has never been before and not in its birthplace America or other places where it has been growing for many years already. For Americans the MLM American dream has turned into a day dream or even a nightmare. So where is MLM trending now and where are the greatest opportunities for potential growth? Lets look at the same chart again and reveal the lower half also – these are the result of the largest search engine online today:

What a surprise??
Indonesia, an third world underdeveloped country (much like Nigeria and other places in Africa as we learn from other trends charts) when it comes to Internet accessibility, but when it comes to people interested in MLM home business, are way ahead of the rest of the world… …AND NOT BY A SMALL MARGIN – almost 50% ahead of no two & by over 10 to 15 times that of the birth place of MLM the good ole USA…

“Asia (Indonesia), Africa (Nigeria),”
…interesting places with internet technology infrastructure very much lacking what is needed to compete in the modern day MLM marketing systems; at times even the very basic participation is hindered by the slow connections.

America has all the modern hi-tech most experienced MLM people in the world today and yet Indonesia is the place where people want it the most. 90% of the interest is coming from Asian countries. Amazing!

a unique situation
…what worked 5 to 8 years ago when MLM was booming in the USA, will more than likely work in Asia & Africa like magic today.

What
caused
people
to
become
disillusioned
with
MLM
?

20 years of hype without proper training and support has produced a mass of people who were SOLD into the concept of MLM, TRAINED on products, TRAINED on company management, TRAINED on commission plans but not taught the skills required to market and they simply have no idea when it comes to marketing. If 90 plus percent of the people were failing to break even and most of that 90 plus percent had some down line they were training and teaching now wonder MLM failure rates are where they are and it is still…

“…the Blind leading the blind!”

What we will see more and more is people trending away from MLM and yet the very same people will still be looking for alternative sources of income; in many places in Asia and Africa people are not looking for alternative sources of income – THEY ARE JOBLESS AND ARE LOOKING FOR INCOME – and even more so during this current economic downturn.
 8

Where will they turn to? If not MLM - what ? People are looking at even more diverse sources of alternative income, which normally they would not even consider. How times can change attitudes?

PERHAPS THE MLM COMPANIES WHO PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT IN MARKETING WILL BECOME THE LEADERS THAT MANY WILL GRAVITATE TOWARDS?! Not the 100 name list! Not too much knowledge about products; basic necessary information only for marketing purposes Not and in depth knowledge of the company profile and the corporate directors, but a knowledge how to bring yourself and your concept to the market and to the people.

MLM and Franchising once frowned upon have truly become alternative income systems today.
So what should an individual look for when choosing an alternative income source? 1- Research the market trends and find a trend that is going up 2- Ask questions about Marketing support etc 3- Concentrate on Marketing, not Networking (friends and family, only close ones)

What an incredible trend line that is – an almost vertical climb. A little more research reveals that MLM people seem to now be gravitating to Cash Gifting in great numbers - something they once criticised greatly.

Positioning yourself ahead of the game is easy, if you know what is coming.

We can clearly see:
where MLM was non-existent before, …it is now experiencing explosive growth. (Asia) where MLM was popular and now in decline… …Cash Gifting is now experiencing explosive growth. (USA) Another interesting note: several MLM people are doing cash gifting to get money for their MLM business to keep it going. (huh?)

10

It stands to reason that those who pioneer Cash Gifting into Asia or other new markets now, will position themselves ahead of a massive trend. Many people that are new to MLM will just go straight into Cash Gifting after seeing a document like this. They figure that if this is where the MLM people are going anyway, why not go there now and get ahead of the trend in my country.
