Beha’alotekha/”When
You
Set
Up”
covers
Numbers
8:1‐12:16.

This
portion
covers
quite
a
 lot
of
ground!

Yet
the
start
of
the
portion
is
focused
on
one
of
the
most
significant
 furnishings
within
the
Tabernacle,
the
Menorah!

Aaron
is
instructed
on
how
to
light
the
 lamp
stand,
literally
how
to
bring
the
light
of
Yahweh
into
the
world!

Isn’t
that
exactly
 what
you
and
I
are
to
do
as
well?

We’re
charged
with
caring
for,
shining,
and
maintaining
 His
light
in
the
world
as
well!
Matthew
5:14
–
“Ye
are
the
light
of
the
world”

 Numbers
8:1‐3

 Lightest:

Strong’s
#5927
‘alah
‫ עלה‬to
go
up,
ascend,
climb;
this
verb
is
used
in
relationship
 to
a
person’s
appearance
before
Yahweh.

One
must
go
up
to
stand
before
Him!

 1st
reference
is
Genesis
2:6
–
“But
there
went
up/’alah
a
mist
from
the
earth,
and
watered
 the
whole
face
of
the
ground.”
 *The
connection
between
a
mist
watering
the
ground
and
the
lighting
of
the
lamps
is
lost
 until
we
dig
a
little
further!
 Mist:

Strong’s
#108
‘ed
‫ אד‬mist;
from
#181
‘uwd
‫ אוד‬brand,
firebrand,
something
that
stirs
 the
fire
 →The
reason
this
is
needed
to
stir
the
fire
is
because
“Yahweh
had
not
caused
it
to
rain
 upon
the
earth,
and
[there
was]
not
a
man
to
till
the
ground.”
(vs.
5)
 Till:
#5647
‘abad
‫ עבד‬to
work,
serve;
same
term
used
to
describe
the
Levites
serving
 in
the
Tabernacle
 Rain:
#4305
matar
‫ מטר‬to
rain;
cognate
of
metar
‫ מתר‬untied,
loose,
allowed,
 permissible,
permitted

 *That
which
ascends/’alah
is
for
the
purpose
of
stirring
the
fire
and
untying
or
loosening
 up
the
ground,
granting
access
to
it,
causing
it
to
be
permissible
to
others
–
the
tilling
of
the
 ground
represents
the
working
of
the
Torah!

In
other
words,
the
duty
of
the
one
 serving/’abad
in
the
Tabernacle
and
lighting
the
lamps
is
to
loosen
and
untie
the
 understanding
of
Torah
so
that
all
others
would
be
able
to
have
access
to
it,
to
stir
the
fire
 in
the
people!!

This
is
what
the
priests
are
being
charged
with
in
this
portion!
 →Back
to
the
mist
‫ אד‬it’s
a
cognate
of
#5704
‘ad
‫ עד‬until,
up
to
&
#5707
‘ed
‫עד‬ witness,
testimony.

The
mist
was
temporary,
only
meant
to
be
fulfilling
this
role
up
 to/until
the
Adam
was
created
to
be
the
witness,
to
bear
the
testimony
of
the
Torah!

 How
exactly
would
Adam,
and
you
and
I
as
well,
do
this?

Genesis
2:15
–
“And
Yahweh
 Elohim
took
the
man,
and
put
him
into
the
Garden
of
Eden
to
dress
it
and
to
keep
it.”
 Keep
it:

Strong’s
#8104
‫ שמר‬to
keep,
guard,
observe,
give
heed,
to
protect
and
save
life;
 gematria
=
540,
the
same
as
#4975
mothenim
‫ מתנים‬loins,
waist,
the
place
of
the
seed;
 Adam
was
charged
with
guarding
and
protecting
the
seed!

As
long
as
he
did
this,
he’d
be
a
 witness
and
a
testimony
of
the
Torah!

Seed
is
connected
to
what
issues
forth
from
our

 1

mouths
as
well
→
whether
we
protect
life
with
our
words
or
not
determines
whether
we’re
 being
a
testimony
and
a
witness,
one
who
brings
light
and
stirs
the
fire
in
others!

 Yet
we
find
that
Adam
allows
the
loins/seed
to
be
compromised
as
he
partakes
of
the
 wrong
fruit.

Genesis
3:6
–
“And
when
the
woman
saw
that
the
tree
[was]
good
for
food,
 and
that
it
[was]
pleasant
to
the
eyes,
and
a
tree
to
be
desired
to
make
[one]
wise,
she
took
 of
the
fruit
thereof,
and
did
eat,
and
gave
also
unto
her
husband
with
her;
and
he
did
eat.”
 Fruit:

Strong’s
#6529
‫ פרי‬fruit,
also
offspring,
progeny
of
the
womb,
the
seed;
here
its
 conjugated
as
‫
– מפריו‬it
has
the
added
‫
= מו‬46,
the
same
value
as
Levi
‫
→ לוי‬By
partaking
of
 the
fruit
Adam
had
compromised
the
role
of
Levi/the
priest,
the
one
who
bears
the
 testimony
of
the
Torah,
the
one
who
stirs
the
fire!

 Its
no
accident
that
the
term
‘alah
is
a
close
cognate
of
#5929
‘aleh
‫ עלה‬leaf,
leafage;
the
1st
 reference
is
Genesis
3:7
–
“And
the
eyes
of
them
both
were
opened,
and
they
knew
that
 they
[were]
naked;
and
they
sewed
fig
leaves
together,
and
made
themselves
aprons.”

‫ דבר‬Word

‫

→
When
 Adam
lost
the
light/failed
to
be
a

the
way
he
would
now
be
the
 witness/testimony
would
be
girding
himself
in
the
revelation
of
the
Dabar/Word!

 *Ephesians
6:14
–
“Stand
therefore,
having
your
loins
girt
about
with
truth”

 The
same
term
‘aleh
is
also
used
in
Ezekiel
47:12
–
“And
by
the
river
upon
the
bank
thereof,
 on
this
side
and
on
that
side,
shall
grow
all
trees
for
meat,
whose
leaf
shall
not
fade,
neither
 shall
the
fruit
thereof
be
consumed:
it
shall
bring
forth
new
fruit
according
to
his
months,
 because
their
waters
they
issued
out
of
the
sanctuary:
and
the
fruit
thereof
shall
be
for
 meat,
and
the
leaf
thereof
for
medicine.”
 Medicine:

Strong’s
#8644
teruwphah
‫ תרופה‬healing;
same
letters
have
within
them
the
 makeup
of
the
word
Torah
‫ תורה‬with
the
addition
of
the
letter
‫

the
Torah
in
the
 mouth/spoken
forth
is
what
brings
healing!

=

breaks
down
to
7,
pointing
again
towards
the
 Menorah
–
by
speaking
forth
the
Torah
its
as
if
you
have
ascended
again
to
the
Menorah
 and
lit
the
lamps,
that’s
how
we
stir
the
fire
and
shine
the
light!

 Proverbs
11:28
connects
the
leaf
as
a
symbol
of
a
righteous
person,
“He
that
trusteth
in
his
 riches
shall
fall:
but
the
righteous
shall
flourish
as
a
branch/’aleh/leaf.”

 Now
let’s
take
a
look
at
what
was
made
from
these
leaves.

Aprons:

Strong’s
#2290
 chagowr
‫ חגור‬girdle,
belt,
loin
covering
(once
again
emphasizing
how
Adam
was
to
protect
 the
seed)
‫
= ח‬wall,
protected
area,
fenced
off
place
&
‫
= גור‬#1481
to
sojourn,
to
dwell
as
a
 foreigner,
to
seek
hospitality
with.
 *Literally
Adam
&
Eve
were
seeking
hospitality
within
the
fenced
off/intimate
place.

 With
their
actions
they
had
become
a
stranger,
but
immediately
they
once
again
 seek
an
audience
with
their
Creator!

 2

 This
comes
full
circle
with
Levi
as
the
priests.

They
as
well
are
given
something
to
gird
 their
loins!

Exodus
29:9
–
“And
thou
shalt
gird
them
with
girdles,
Aaron
and
his
sons”
 Girdles:

Strong’s
#73
‘abnet
‫ אבנט‬girdle,
sash,
waistband;
‫
= א‬I
will,
‫
= בנ‬son,
&
‫
= ט‬to
 surround,
carries
within
it
the
picture
of
a
fence/wall
that
surrounds
(much
like
the
wall
 surrounding
the
Tabernacle)
→
I
will
son
you
within
the
walls
of
the
Tabernaacle,
within
 the
intimate
chamber!

 When
we’re
willing
to
come
into
His
house
as
Levi
did,
one
who
will
be
obedient
to
bear
the
 testimony
in
our
lives,
one
whom
is
wiling
to
till
the
ground
and
break
open
the
Torah
in
 order
to
stir
the
fire
within
others,
then
Yahweh
changes
our
status
from
a
guest
seeking
 hospitality
to
a
son
in
His
house!
 *Gematria
of
‘abnet/girdle
=
62
same
as
beni
‫ בני‬my
son;
yet
its
also
the
value
of
zanah
‫זנה‬ to
commit
fornication,
play
the
harlot
 →How
well
we
guard
the
seed/keep
the
mouth
girded
determines
whether
we
 belong
in
the
house
as
beni/my
son
or
whether
we’re
one
who
has
played
the
 harlot!

Have
you
been
spreading
the
light
of
the
Menorah
or
stirring
the
strange
fire
 of
the
harlot?
