Upgrading to DSS 4.91 from DSS 4.3 through 4.20

Introduction
DSS 4.91 is the upgrade for all previous product versions from DSS 4.3 through DSS 4.20. You do not need to upgrade to any intermediate version, and are able to proceed directly to 4.91.

Upgrade checklist
Prior to upgrading to DSS 4.91 make sure that you have the following items. Ability to have TCP/IP ports 1783, 5213, 7627 and 161 opened by the DSS installation Some features in DSS require user credentials to function. The upgrade from 4.x to 4.91 will restore your server, domain and user names, but not passwords. You will need the passwords for the following features, if they are used in your environment. o SMTP server (if the SMTP server requires authentication) o Authentication method (LDAP, Windows or Novell) o LAN Fax folder path o Send to Folder public server path o LDAP server (if needed for email address replication) o Device administrator

DSS 4.91 server considerations


The installation for DSS 4.91 may be used to upgrade your existing DSS 4.x server, or perform a clean installation on a new server. In either case, your DSS 4.x configuration settings (including licenses) can be migrated to the new installation. If you are planning to install DSS 4.91 on a new server, you will also need the following items. MAC address of server New license keys (for all node locked licenses)

Upgrading to DSS 4.91 on an existing server


This section applies if you plan to continue using your current DSS server hardware for the 4.91 deployment. DSS 4.91 is designed to upgrade the existing installation and migrate all of your configuration settings. The upgrade process will save your current settings, then remove the 4.x software, then install 4.91 and finally restore your 4.x configuration settings to the 4.91 installation. 1. Perform a server backup on the DSS server 2. Backup your DSS 4.x settings a. Launch the DSS 4.x Configuration Utility b. Select the Preferences tab c. Select the "Save Settings" button d. Select "Yes" to allow the Configuration Utility to be closed for the backup e. Select the "Backup" radio button f. Note the "Location of Backup" g. Select "OK" 3. Notify users that DSS will not process jobs until the upgrade completes 4. Install 4.91 a. Launch setup.exe and follow the on-screen prompts. b. Accept the license agreement. c. Select Full Installation or Configuration Utility Only.

d. Allow DSS to accept incoming network requests by opening ports 1783, 7627, and 5213 in the Windows firewall.

e. To save your 4.x settings and have them restored to 4.91, make sure that the Save settings checkbox is selected. There may be a slight delay as the 4.x settings are collected.

Select Yes to uninstall the previous version of DSS.

g. If you receive a prompt to remove devices, select No.

h. The uninstall of the previous version will begin.

Click OK to confirm that the previous version has been uninstalled.

Click Install to continue the DSS 4.91 installation.

After the 4.91 installation completes, select the option to Launch HP Digital Sending Software 4.91 and click Finish. If you have installed DSS 4.91 on Windows Vista, 7 or Server 2008, a reboot may be required after clicking Finish.

After the Configuration Utility starts, click Yes to migrate your DSS 4.x settings to version 4.91.

m. Settings will be restored to the 4.91 installation.

n. After the restore completes, the Configuration Utility will prompt to restart. Click OK.

o. You will need to re-enter passwords in the DSS 4.91 Configuration Utility for features such as SMTP server, LDAP server and network folders.

5. Verify your configuration settings in DSS 4.91 6. Import your device list a. Locate the device list file saved as part of the seamless upgrade. The file, DSS_DeviceList_Import.csv, is stored on the DSS server desktop as well as in the folder [Install Path]\Backup. b. (Optional) Edit the DSS_DeviceList_Import.csv file using a plain text editor such as Notepad. You can remove whole lines from this file to control which devices are imported to DSS 4.91. c. Select the Device Configuration tab in the Configuration Utility. d. Click the Import button, and browse to the DSS_DeviceList_Import.csv file. e. Click Open

Upgrading to DSS 4.91 on a new server


1. Install DSS 4.91 on the new server a. Launch setup.exe and follow the on-screen prompts b. Make note of the installation folder (on 64 bit Windows systems this could be in the Program Files (x86) folder) c. When the installation completes, you will see the following dialog

Leave the two checkboxes unchecked, and click Finish. If you have installed DSS 4.91 on Windows Vista, 7 or Server 2008, a reboot may be required after clicking Finish. 2. Backup configuration settings from DSS 4.x DSS 4.91 comes with a utility to capture all settings from DSS 4.x in a format that can be restored to DSS 4.91. a. On the DSS 4.91 server, copy the folder [Install Path]\ Scripts\ LegacyDssConfigurationBackup to the DSS 4.x server b. On the DSS 4.x server, open the LegacyDssConfigurationBackup folder, and launch LegacyDssConfigurationBackup.exe c. The output from the LegacyDssConfigurationBackup utility is two files named, DSSbackup.dss and DSS_DeviceList_Import.csv. Copy these files from the 4.x server to the 4.91 server. 3. Restore the 4.x settings to 4.91 On the DSS 4.91 server a. After the installation and possible reboot are complete, open the DSS 4.91 Configuration Utility b. Click OK to the Outgoing E-mail Server must be set message
