What is a Manatee?
A manatee is a slow-moving animal
that lives in the water. It is gray and
very big. Its tail looks like a beaver’s
tail and moves up and down for
swimming. A manatee’s skin is
thick and feels like sandpaper. It has
two front flippers for steering. The
manatee’s eyes are small and look like
buttons. Because of their size and their
gentle nature,
manatees are
often called
“gentle giants.”
They are also
known as “sea
cows.”
