New Vanguard Nose Design feature worked weII in these 02 runs
Reduces cone shell erosion in this area which usually causes lost compacts and coring.
mproved bit reliability in hard and soft granite
Slim hole Basement Drilling - Gauge Durability
Bits are n Gauge after drilling long hours in Granit basement.
Diamond Gauge DX1 feature works well.

Picture shows very little wear on the carbide but all three cone shells
were abrasively eroded around the gauge/outer row area:
- Signs of tracking on cone#1 around Adjacent & Heel row
- Scooped cone shell wear on cone #2, compact barrels were slightly
exposed
- Small amounts of cone steel wear on cone #3;
(This bit drilled thru 12m Shale + Sandstone prior to end up in Granite)
#5212602 (1st run 27.8hrs)
# 5212610 (2nd run-33.9hrs)
Picture shows more wear on the carbide and all three cone shells
were abrasively eroded around the gauge/outer row area:
- Signs of tracking type on cone#1 around Adjacent & Heel row; one
broken compact is probably due to the lost compacts in cone #2
- Scooped cone shell badly worn on cone #2, lost 02 x TC due to the
cone shell erosion loosens the grip necessary to retain the inserts
- Back side TC wear and cone shell wear between inserts on cone #3
suggested the bit tracked while drilling.

Cone shell erosion seen on all 3 cones could be the main reason of
Lost Teeth / compacts and Broken Teeth

Flat Crested wear (FC) and Erosion (ER) are found in all area. Note there
is Tracking (TR) between compacts on adjacent heel and heel row.
Tracking is typically happen during low ROP period, as each compact
does not break the formation efficiently.

heel & adjacent heel rows while
Flat Crested wear and Erosion
are found in all the rest of cone
areas.
- Lost Teeth (LT) in the nose of
cone #2 is also noted.

Dull:4-8-WT/LT-A-E-2-RG/BT-HR
- Heavily Damaged might due to
junks still left in hole ( marks are
on cones #2 & #3) Lost compacts
can create "Domino effect" which
damages the rest compact in
cutting structure.
- It was decided to add a Junk
basket to BHA components for
next bit run in order to get
improvement of Hole cleaning in
bottom and near bit area.

Study with Logging Data available in well 2005-RP2
Sonic data for UCS to 3760mMD only
6 Hole section was drilled with Mud
Motor (rotate/slide drilling for well path
control to TD -5 Liner point).
High Balling index in claystone
associated with Low Drilling efficiency
or High MSE.
5 Liner shoe was not set to the top
of Fresh Granite Basement
4 HS was drilled with Rotary BHA.
High Balling index in clay stone
formation associated with Low Drilling
efficiency or High MSE was seen in first
03 bit runs ( IADC code 627)
High Balling index was noted in Granite
Basement may due to 2
