Looking at the past few years, I realize how greatly I have matured since my days as an adolescent. That being said, I recognize that my education has only just begun. I expect my standards to rise and my experience to flourish over the next stage of my life; similarly to the way it has since beginning my career as a collegiate. While I have my own views of what it will take to succeed, I am looking forward to be challenged as I begin my education as a graduate student. My education in the Human Development Family Studies field has given me a great understanding of individuals behavior throughout all stages of life. I absolutely believe that I can take this understanding and apply it to a future career that will enhance productivity in a business, while simultaneously benefiting the employees who work there. My major has shown me the importance of caring: caring for others, caring for my job, and most of all caring for the greater good. From this mentality, I am confident that I will be able to put the best interest of the organization that I work for as a first priority. I am currently participating in an independent research, where I am examining the effects of career life on older adults. With guidance from Dr. Steve Zarit, I plan on developing a deeper understanding of how to encourage productivity of those nearing retirement age. I would like to take this knowledge, and use it as the foundation of my continuing education in the Industrial Organizational Psychology major. Since I was in high school I have held so many different types of jobs from sleep-away camp counselor to sales assistant to assisting editors at a publishing house. More importantly,

in the past I have worked in offices under both strong and weak supervision. I recognize the impact that management can have on employee effectiveness. Despite the location or type of job, those experiences have given me invaluable insight into workplace dynamics. From my previous endeavors, I understand the importance of teamwork, strong communication, and perseverance, while working projects of any magnitude. As I make my plans to become a professional in the Human Resources field, I look back at the jobs I have had, and they make me realize the type of hard-working person I intend to be. I hope that I can one day help the companies and organizations under weak management to improve, and those under strong management to advance further. For many reasons, I am confident that Brooklyn College will help me achieve my goals to become a leader in the Human Resources field. The intimate classes will allow me to build relationships with my peers and professors. These connections will certainly become my basis for networking, and I look forward to becoming professional colleagues with these individuals. Additionally, the prime location of Brooklyn College will grant access to the many organizations and corporations of New York City. The opportunity to start my career with an internship in a large city such as this cannot be paralleled. I understand the importance of gaining work experience, as it enhances everything that is previously learned in the classroom. Finally, the incredible reputation of Brooklyn College speaks for itself to prospective employers. I am absolutely positive that attaining a masters degree from an esteemed university, such as Brooklyn College, will give me the necessary groundwork I need to become successful.
