Given a mandate to restructure the inefficient state-owned railway network, Korea Rail Network Authority (KR) was established to handle construction activities, and train operations were transferred to the KORAIL.

When it comes to railway network, the only limit is your imagination.
Imagine a better world where railway connects the two Koreas, brings you to people with whom you’ve fallen out of touch, and makes us all bind together! It is no longer a dream but a reality in reach.

Moving forward in hope, KR will shape the future of Korea.

A new century will be the time for KR’s great leap forward.
Thank you for your continued interest in the Korean railway! Over the last decade and more the Korean railway has been a major driving force behind the nation’s economic growth and regional development. Once the railway industry was suffered from unprecedented market volatility, yet it is now poised to take off another leap forward, with a view to taking advantages of a paradigm shift as people put far greater value on the rail mode.

Railway is an ideal alternative to meet the future energy needs and environmental challenges. Therefore, the transport policies and investments of many developed countries focus on promoting a rail-oriented network, which eventually leads to a modal shift.

KR is striving to foster an era of railway renaissance that will become a mainstream in the 21st century. In pursuit of enhancing more sustainable mobility, it has encouraged the development of nationwide rail network since its inception in 2004. In particular, KR has achieved the following milestones: opening of the world’s fifth high speed line, electrification of major trunk lines, and construction of inter-city rail link in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Besides playing a vital role in meeting the challenges of growing mobility and competitiveness, KR is equipped with capabilities of shifting Korea as a logistics hub, linking trans-continental railways such as TKR, TCR, and TSR, and taking the lead in building a global rail network. As demonstrated by its Railways Make World a Better Place slogan, KR aims at becoming the leader in offering rail engineering and project management expertise adding a new chapter to the railway history.

In this rapidly changing world, we have reengineered our strategies for the transition to a sustainable growth, turning KR into a world leading company in the railway engineering. Thank you!
Chairman & CEO
