GAME PREVIEW
The Keys and P-Nats combined for 12 runs in the final two innings of Saturday’s game, a wild 10-9 loss in 10 innings for Frederick. Potomac won despite being outhit 20-12. The Keys and P-Nats will wrap up their first halves of the season today in a 2 p.m. Father’s Day matinee at Harry Grove Stadium. Frederick will start one of its two all-stars, left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, who will be heading to San Jose with catcher Zane Chavez on Monday.     Threw seven innings, allowed four hits, a walk and a run on April 21 in his only start vs. Potomac this season. Tied for second in the Carolina League in wins, is fourth in innings pitched (75.1) and ninth in ERA. Has induced 10 groundball double plays this season. Rated by Baseball America as the fifth-best prospect in Orioles organization and third-best pitching prospect behind 2012 Keys Dylan Bundy & Kevin Gausman. Potentially could be the first Venezuelan player signed, developed and promoted to the majors by Baltimore. Has not allowed more than three runs and two earned runs in any start this year. Drafted by Washington in the 12th round of 2010 draft and pitched for Potomac last season and went 4-12 with a 6.56 ERA.

AN ALL-STAR MATCHUP: Two of the best left-handed pitchers in the Carolina League face off today at Harry Grove Stadium before heading to the CaliforniaCarolina League All-Star game in San Jose – Potomac’s Robbie Ray and Frederick’s Eduardo Rodriguez. Ray leads the league in strikeouts and is second in ERA while Rodriguez is tied for second in wins and is ninth in ERA. Potomac will also send pitcher Blake Schwartz, outfielder Billy Burns and catcher Adrian Nieto to the AllStar game. Nieto is taking the place of Keys catcher Zane Chavez, who is on the disabled list with an oblique strain. ‘POUNDING THE PENS: In the last two games, Frederick has scored nine runs off Potomac relievers in 6.1 innings, amassing 11 hits over that span. The Keys’ ‘pen hasn’t fared much better, allowing seven runs in the last two innings Saturday night and four home runs in the first four games of this series. AND THE WHIFF: Today’s game features two of the most prolific batters in the Carolina League when it comes to swinging and missing. League leader Jason Martinson, Potomac’s everyday shortstop, has 85 strikeouts in 67 games and Keys outfielder Brenden Webb has whiffed 72 times, second in the CL, in 59 games.
