Dear Neighbour:

Id like to introduce myself to you. My name is Chris Wilson and Im your community league president. We may have seen each other around the neighbourhood but weve never really met. Or, you may have been a community league member in the past, but have not felt connected to your community for a while. Id like to change that!

Forest/Terrace Heights Community League is a non-profit organization committed to building relationships among residents of all ages living in both the Forest and Terrace Heights communities. We want to help neighbours get to know one another and feel as though they belong to a vibrant, active, and safe community. As part of our mandate, we provide both free and low-cost cultural and recreational programming and events for community members of all ages.

You might not be aware, but as a community league member you can enjoy many benefits at sports, recreational, and cultural locations right here in Edmonton! League members receive a 10% discount on monthly and annual passes at City of Edmonton recreational facilities, as well as discounts on multi-use punch passes. That can add up to hundreds of dollars in savings on annual family passes! The City of Edmonton also offers League members 20% off the regular admission price at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Fort Edmonton Park, Muttart Conservatory, and John Janzen Nature Centre. You or your family can purchase reduced-price tickets to select Edmonton Oilers, Oil Kings, and Capitals games just be showing your community league membership card.

If you feel like playing shinny or learning to skate in your own backyard, you can access one of our two regulation-size rinks. Bring your skates to our heated rink shack in Forest Heights, or skate under the stars at our pond hockey rink in Terrace Heights. Just show your skate tags and skate for free all winter long!

Best of all, you will receive free admission to Bonnie Doon and Hardisty Pools during exclusive League swim times every Saturday and Sunday from September to April. But, come summertime, you can swim outside at Mill Creek Pool all day, every day for FREE! You will save almost $25 on a family pass (or $10 on an adult pass) per visit, all because you chose to become a Forest/Terrace Heights Community League member!

Community league members are also invited to our Annual General Meeting and are able to nominate candidates and participate in voting for the Board of Directors. Any member may join our monthly meetings to discuss their ideas or concerns, makes motions, and vote on policy changes. We welcome all members to attend and help shape the future of our community!

We also offer many opportunities for community league members to get involved in events and projects by sitting on special committees. Or, you may want to simply volunteer at an event and meet your neighbours! As a thank you, volunteers who put in over 30 hours of their time receive a free annual family membership, and all volunteers are invited to our annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner held in March.

Community League memberships are available at three levels: Family ($30), Single Adult ($15), and Senior ($10). We also offer free family memberships to low-income residents who are part of the City of Edmonton Leisure Access Program. You can purchase your membership and receive your skate tags at Forest Heights Food Store (10130 79 Street), or feel free to contact Natalie Shykoluk, our Membership Director, at 780.752.1133 for more information.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
