Perodua Eco-Challenge 2013

Perodua is organizing its fifth edition of Perodua Eco-Challenge this year. UNITEN has been participating in the event for the last four years and again this year we will send a team for the event. The total prize has been increased by 23% this year to RM127,000 from the RM103,000 offered last year. Last year UNITEN won the Marketing Challenge and produced the following awesome video: Our best achievement was in 2010 where we won the Overall Champion. We managed to produce the best mileage of 42.7 km/l. Our strength was on CFD and aerodynamics based on experiences gained in solar car competition in Australia. Our car was the lightest, and we had various sub-competitions among students and combined the best of ideas to produce a winning car.

For Perodua Eco-Challenge 2013, each participating is given a Perodua MyVi. The challenge is to make the car more fuel efficient and at the same time redesign and rebuilt the vehicle upper body to a totally different look. The team has to cut the upper body as shown in Figure 1, and then come up with their own design for the body.

Figure 2 shows the winning car of PEC 2012 from Politeknik Ungku Omar. They came up with a clever design for the body using the concept of scorpion. They intelligently used canvas on some part of the body in order to reduce the weight. Their car won the Overall Champion with a mileage of 48 km/l.
