Texas Marathon Report

June 20, 2013 Issue 6
33 marathons are now in play for the 2013-2014 marathon cycle in the Lone Star state. Corpus Christi’s Navy Marathon is no more, but has moved to February and refashioned itself as a stand-alone half. The Fiesta Marathon has left McAllen (some might say forcibly) for Edinburg, moving up two months on the calendar, while the Hill Country Marathon and the McAllen Marathon are the two new events on the schedule. Three races – the GE Irving Marathon, the Davy Crockett Bear Chase (in Groveton) and the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon – have not yet finalized their 2014 dates. The Army Marathon, which runs from Killeen to Temple, moves up approximately five to six weeks to be on the same weekend as the Fidelity Investments The Woodlands Marathon. The Surfside Beach Marathon and the two marathons in Allen that make up the New Year’s Double currently hold the honor of being the cheapest marathons in Texas at $50 and $60, respectively. The most expensive is the Chevron Houston Marathon, with its $125 sticker price, followed by the Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon in San Antonio, the Freescale Austin Marathon and the brand-new Hill Country Marathon in Marble Falls – all at $115. The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon is the only other one that will the entire C-note – at $100. And despite the largest marathon medal around, the Texas Marathon in Kingwood on New Year’s Day is not yet sold out. 2013-2014 Texas Marathon Schedule
