Hot3

Wt: 5 Lb 5 oz Vol: 1500 cu-in Colors: Black
Initially developed with the Los Padres Hot Shots in Southern California, the Hot 3 is designed specifically for wildland fire crews. The Hot 3 is built to ride low on the back and distribute its weight through the wearer’s hips and core to maintain mobility, balance, and athleticism during the widely varied operations encountered in the fire environment. Our M4 Lumbar Wrap locks the pack to your lower back and comfortably supports loads up to 50 pounds. The Hotshot Yoke is our slimmest yoke, developed specifically to maximize ventilation and support, and features telescoping adjustment to custom fit each pack to its user. The lumbar and yoke systems work together to create stability and facilitate speed while digging line in the Northwest’s big timber, operating powersaws in California’s chapparal, or burning off dozer lines in the Southwest. This yoke is built with a frame panel, compression straps, and an adjustable haul loop that allow you to attach a load directly to it—a perfect spot for a Pulaski or med kit. The zipper panel opens the body of the pack wide to easily access your gear, while the Lid Pocket is removable and can also strap a load on top. The waist belt is ready for FS standard Alice clip accessories, and the open wing pockets feature external daisy chains to hang a radio, swede hook, or any other item. The fire shelter can be worn either on the hip or under the pack, where reinforced Alice attach points and our Auto-Lock buckles work in tandem to secure the fire shelter without sway, minimizing chafe on the butt and thighs. The Hot 3 allows the wildland firefighter to perform more effectively in the fire environment, improves safety, and reduces the physical wear and tear injuries that accrue over a long season on the fireline.

Hot Top

Wt: 5 Lb 6 oz Vol: 1800 cu-in Colors: Black
Just like its smaller brother the Hot 3, the Hot Top is built to ride low on the back and distribute its weight through the wearer’s hips and core to maintain mobility, balance, and athleticism during the widely varied operations encountered in the fire environment. The classic top-loading design provides 200 cubic inches more volume and the dual drawcord shroud is expandable when even more volume is needed. Our M4 Lumbar Wrap locks the pack to your lower back, and comfortably supports loads up to 50 pounds. The Hotshot Yoke is our slimmest yoke: specifically developed for firefighters to maximize ventilation and support, it features Mystery Ranch’s unique telescoping adjustment to custom fit each pack to its user. The lumbar and yoke systems work together to maintain stability and facilitate speed while digging line in the Northwest’s big timber, operating powersaws in California’s chapparal, or burning off dozer lines in the Southwest. This yoke is built with a frame panel, compression straps, and an adjustable haul loop that allows you to attach a load directly to it—a perfect spot to attach a Pulaski or med kit. The pack lid provides extra storage, can lash extra loads to the top of the pack, and is easily removed. The waist belt is ready for Alice clip attachments, and the open wing pockets feature daisy chains for hanging a radio, swede hook, or anything else you need. The fire shelter can be worn either on the hip or under the pack, where reinforced Alice attach points are supported by our Auto-Locking buckles to keep your fire shelter locked to the pack, minimizing chafe on the butt and thighs. The Hot Top allows the wildland firefighter to perform more effectively in the fire environment, improves safety, and reduces the wear and tear injuries that accrue over a long season on the fireline.

Hot Spot

Wt: Vol: 400 cu-in Colors: Black
In today’s all-risk environment, firefighters’ duties are more broad than ever. That’s why we’ve built the Hotspot and reinvented the idea of web gear. The Hotspot is built light and fast, designed specifically for the Initial Attack fire environment. Whether you’re protecting neighborhoods in California’s sprawling Urban Interface, supporting a burn on a massive campaign fire, or running a hoselay through big brush, the Hotspot is the pack of choice. This is our minimalist fire pack: it carries a fire shelter, three fusees, and a pocket with just enough space for the essentials. Just as importantly, it’s easily accessorized, so the firefighter can customize his belt kit. Mounted on our IA Frame, the Hotspot’s load-carrying capacity rivals our larger Hotshot packs, without sacrificing a bit of mobility or comfort. Pop two quick-release buckles and the pack can transform, dropping down to become a load sling for any application. This gives the firefighter--whether Captain, Engineer, or hose-hauler--a tool of unparalleled versatility.

Firelight

Wt: 5 Lb 2 oz Vol: 950 cu-in Colors: Black
Our new Firelight is a hybrid pack, built for when you need to carry more than the minimum, but stay light and fast. Riding on the suspension of our IA Frame, this pack combines our proven and fully adjustable Hotshot Yoke and M4 belt systems. Designed primarily for Initial Attack, the Firelight still has enough space to carry you through a long shift when the incident rolls hot into the next operational period and you’re pushing a hoselay further down the flank, or leading a dozer around the head of a wind-driven fire. This pack rides low on the back and distributes its weight through the wearer’s hips and core to maintain maximum mobility, balance, and athleticism during the widely varied operations encountered in the fire environment. The Firelight is a low profile asymmetrical design which allows us to tuck that dense, heavy fire shelter up in the user’s lumbar where it rides securely, and can be accessed rapidly. An open-wing bottle pocket on the user’s left holds a minimum of two quarts, two Sigg bottles, or anything else you might need to pack. Fusees can be stowed in elastic loops on the back of the bag, or zipped away and flight-ready in a tall zip pocket. The main compartment of the bag is built with a reservoir pocket and is ported for hydration, while compression straps can be used to haul flaked hose, banjo canteens, or any other awkward load. A detail pocket on the back organizes your incidentals and small items. Both the waistbelt and bottom of the bag have Alice Web for accessories. The lumbar and yoke systems work together to create stability and facilitate speed during any operation, whether you’re stringing a hoselay through double-overhead chapparal, wrapping houses with protection lines in the urban interface, or dragging fire alongside freeways in any region of the country.

RATS Pack

Wt: 5 lb 9 oz (2.52kg) Vol: 1800 cu-in Colors: Red Coyote Foliage Multicam

RATS (Rapid Access Trauma System) is the pack you need when every second counts. Its special “rip access” design gives the user the ability to have complete access to the load in a flash. With three large external pockets and six Velcro anchored rip out pockets ( 4 triage, 2 I.V.) with clear vinyl viewing windows this pack has everything you need to stay organized. The RATS pack also includes two trauma shears pockets; one external and one internal. It has the ability to be worn just as a simple ruck when traveling light but also has the necessary attachments to be mounted onto the NICE Frame giving a better harness for the user if they are carrying heavier loads.

NICE Load Sling

Wt: 1 lbs (.45kg) Colors: Coyote Foliage

Multicam

The Load Sling is the most basic method to lash objects to the NICE Frame. This simple design is reinforced with a carbon-fiberglass stay to maintain rigidity. Its wide range of adjustability will conform to any load you are attempting to carry be it Jerry cans, chemical weed sprayers, bone-in quarters, meat bags, shed antlers or pony kegs.

3 Day Assault

Wt: 5 lb 1 oz (2.3kg) Vol: 2000 cu-in Colors: Black Coyote Foliage Multicam

Dana pulled out all the stops for this day pack. Using the revolutionary 3Zip design you’ll find on many of our futura packs as the base, he then added a ton of military specific features: PAL web, extra compression straps, a radio cradle able to secure a 117 radio, and all of this with the ability to easily carry up to three 100 oz. hydration reservoirs. Along with military uses, hunters have found it very useful as a day pack and for preseason training and scouting. Police and Tactical squads are also using the 3 Day for mission specific loads.

Outsider

Wt: 2 lbs 10oz (1.2kg) Vol: 1500 cu-in Colors: Black Coyote Foliage International Orange Toxic Green

This is a courier bag Mystery Ranch style. It has an exceptionally cushy over-the-shoulder strap with built-in cell phone pocket. It sports an oversized lid compartment and ample space in the main bag. Simple yet uniquely designed compression straps flatten this lid compartment as well as the main bag simultaneously, securing all items with a single pull. The front pocket zipper is curved upwards, which forces the pocket open when unzipped. Internal details include two mesh pockets, large, zippered cord storage and a computer sleeve.

NICE Extraction Frame

Wt: 6 lbs 8 oz Colors: Coyote Foliage
The Nice Extraction Frame formally known as the CSAR Frame was built with help from the 58th RQS to carry and protect the Combi tool. The frame is constructed the same as our Nice Frame with 6 carbon fiber fiberglass stays to support the load of the Combi tool vertically. The heavy dense Jaws of the Combi tool are protected in a PE reinforced boot, and the Nice Pocket mounts around the Combi tool with quick release buckles to carry the essentials. Like the NICE Frame, there is a full line of packbags that can be mounted onto the Extraction Frame to ensure the right bag for the mission.

Duffels
One Man Duffle
Designed for travel and large enough to fit almost anything. Folds into its own storage pocket when not in use.

Wt: 3 lb 1 oz Dimensions: 14”x 33”x 18” Colors: Coyote Red

Spandura Duffels

The Spandura Duffels utilize a large swath of a very unique fabric called Spandura. Literally spandex threads wrapped in Cordura, Spandura fabric has the durability of Cordura yet stretches like Spandex. Lining each side of the main zipper with this fabric allows these panels and the zipper to easily stretch and close over the worst overloads. Each duffle is lined with stiff foam so it keeps it shape for easy packing. Interior pockets and exterior end pockets for smaller items. These duffels are a must have for serious travelers. No Rancher travels without one.

Vol: Small 3000 cu-in, Medium 5000 cu-in, Large 7000 cu-in Wt: 3 lb 1 oz Colors: Coyote Foliage Black

Accessories
Talk Box
Our semi-rigid radio case replaces your old holster and locks onto our M4 Belt system behind the hip. This snugs your commo against the pack bag where it’s out of the way, yet can still be easily accessed. The padding and rigidity built into the box both protect your radio and allow it to slide in and out. Once attached, the Talk Box rides secure against your waist belt and doesn’t swing from a daisy chain as you work and cover rough country.

Wt: 4 oz Vol: Colors: Black

Hip Shelter Case

Wt: 7 oz Vol: 200 cu Colors: Black

Using the web straps and auto-lock buckles built into the bottom of our Hot packs, this shelter case mounts tight and minimizes sway. Into this case we’ve also built a wedge that angles the shelter even further away from the body, effectively eliminating rub on the butt and thighs.

Bottom Shelter Case

Mystery Ranch’s Hip Shelter Case mounts to our M4 lumbar system in the corner where the waistbelt and bag meet. Keeping the shelter tucked away as close to the pack as possible lets you work and hike with minimal interference. We’ve included a specially designed wedge that kicks the shelter out away from the hip and leg to eliminate chafing.

History
Mystery Ranch’s founder, co-owner, and head designer Dana Gleason has been at the forefront of the backpacking industry for more than 30 years. He began as a repair tech in gear shops, and found himself significantly improving the packs in the process. In 1985, he and business partner Renee Sippel-Baker created Dana Design, a recreational company whose packs are still recognized for innovative design, rugged durability, and breakthroughs in load carrying technology. K2 Corporation bought Dana Design in 1995. Dana and Renee founded Mystery Ranch in 2000, creating their ideal: a Bozeman-based company that keeps all levels of pack production—and the jobs that come with it—in the USA. Just as importantly, the company is built on Dana’s passion: to further push the limits of pack design, and satisfy his appetite to meet the specific needs of today’s most rugged industrial and recreational pack users. Our design philosophy is simple: make exceptionally comfortable, incredibly durable packs for people who depend on their gear. We start with the knowledge that those people will be carrying very heavy, and oddly shaped, loads: skis, hunting rifles, elk quarters, mili comm equipment, wildland fire pumps—the list goes on. Mystery Ranch began designing fire packs in 2004, developing the original Hot pack with Southern California’s Los Padres Hot Shots. The Hot 3 is designed with the specific needs of wildland fire handcrews in mind, redefining the comfort and carrying capacity of a Hotshot pack. In light of the Hot 3’s success in the wildland fire community, we’ve developed our Engine and IA Gear for firefighters with another set of specific needs.
