MISSION: The YWCA of Minot, ND is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. ROLE: The role of the Executive Director is to provide the leadership necessary to enable the Minot YWCA to fulfill its goals and priorities as set by its Board of Directors. POSITION SUMMARY: The YWCA Executive Director must have a passion for the mission of the YWCA and want to make a difference in changing women’s lives through the YWCA shelter programs. The Director assists the Board of Directors in achieving the mission, vision, and strategic initiatives of the organization, obtaining resources, and carrying out organizational policies and program operations including oversight of facility and supervision of staff. The Director is the chief spokesperson for the YWCA. CORE COMPETENCIES and CAPABILITIES:   Excellent leadership and management skills to successfully convey the organization’s vision to the community, donors, and our partners. Proven success at revenue generating activities including securing funding support through grants, fundraising events, corporate and foundation partnerships, memberships, and major donor campaigns. Strong financial acumen to manage and grow the annual budget and the ability to use sound financial management principals in making decisions. Experience in building and developing organizational capacity and partnerships to ensure high quality programming for our organization and the community we serve. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.

 

   

Administrative experience in o human resource management to include staff oversight, o volunteer management, o working with a non-profit board of directors, o organizational planning and development, and o facility management. Demonstrated proficiency with technologies for database management, customer relationship management, social media, and report generation. Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Entrepreneurial and creative thinking to enhance existing programs and foresee future community needs. Experience in and a demonstrated commitment to the needs of social/racial justice and empowerment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in human service/public administration, social work, business, management or other closely related field or equivalent education/experience. Advanced education a plus. Experience in personnel management including staff recruitment, selection and orientation, evaluation, recognition and retention. Experience working in direct client services, preferably with issues of homelessness, victims of domestic violence, oppression, housing and economic independence. Successful experience in leadership administration in a not-for-profit, public sector, or private organization. Strong commitment to empowerment of women and elimination of racism. Experience in financial administration and resource development. Experience in organizational development and problem-solving.

 

JOB DUTIES: Fund Development and Events      Actively seek and maintain a diverse membership and donor base of individuals, businesses, foundations, and government segments. Coordinate YWCA programs and their development to coincide with mission, vision and strategic initiatives of Board of Directors. Develop and monitor program budgets to maintain healthy cash flow, provide full services to clients and maintain adequate reserves. Direct Grant Coordinator on grant and development opportunities. Explore community opportunities for growth and enhancement of current programs.

Continue to grow established fundraising events for Center.

Communication    Build community partnerships and participate in collaborative relationships that will further support YWCA programs and strategic initiatives. Educate and advocate on behalf of the organization and the participants that receive services. Represent the YWCA and its programs through public speaking engagements, shelter tours, and positions on community boards and committees as approved by YWCA Board. Attend ND Homeless Coalition meetings.

Supervisory     Provide support to all staff and programs that operate in the shelter. Hire, train, support and evaluate staff. Provide clear and concise communications that engage and motivate employees toward desired goals. Ensure employee development, competence, and knowledge in their respective areas including latest trends and innovations.

Safety/Security    Maintain the safety and security of the shelter facility through the development of safe operating procedures and proper operation of security systems. Ensure that policies and procedures for all shelter programs are developed, updated, and enforced. Ensure that crisis situations are handled appropriately and staff are trained and prepared for circumstances including, but not limited to, emergency evacuation, intruder, etc.

COMPENSATION: Based on experience. Minimum salary $35,000 + incentives for meeting performance goals. APPLICATION PROCESS: Review of applications will begin on July 22, 2013.
