Reader Advisory: the National Trade Association we belong to has purchased the above classifieds. Determining the value of their service or product is advised by this publication. In order to avoid misunderstandings, some advertisers do not offer “employment” but rather supply the readers with manuals, directories and other materials designed to help their clients establish mail order selling and other businesses at home. Under NO circumstance should you send any money in advance or give the client your checking, license ID, or credit card numbers. Also beware of ads that claim to guarantee loans regardless of credit and note that if a credit repair company does business only over the phone it’s illegal to request any money before delivering its service. All funds are based in US dollars. 800 numbers may or may not reach Canada.

flowers were once the norm in bridal bouquets, many brides today are opting to take a simpler route. Hand-tied bouquets are a popular choice. With the flowers gathered together and wrapped in ribbon, the bouquets are easier to handle and have a contemporary look to them. While today’s bridal bouquets might be somewhat simpler in design, brides can still add some dazzle to them with beads, crystals, feathers, pearls, sequins and other accessories. Brides with themed weddings can take it a step further and incorporate extra special touches into their bouquets, like miniature seashells, pinecones or butterflies. Bouquets featuring vintage brooches are also becoming popular. Bridal bouquets can run the gamut from the traditional all-white handtied rose bouquet drenched in crystals to the sassy gold, red and purple bouquet cuffed by feathers. It is up to the bride how she wants her bouquet to be. Brides should check out some samples, talk to their florist and select a bouquet design that speaks to them.

Bouquet Bravado
By Tresa Erickson Brides have been carrying bouquets for hundreds of years. In ancient times, bridal bouquets generally consisted of garlic, herbs and spices to keep evil spirits away. By Victorian times, fresh flowers had replaced the garlic, herbs and spices, and many of these flowers carried special meanings, like innocence, faith and love. Floriography, the language of flowers, continues to this day, with some brides researching flower meanings and basing their bouquet selections on those meanings. Floriography isn’t the only trend in bridal bouquets. There are many others. Here is a brief review. Bridal bouquets are traditionally pale in color, but today’s brides are branching out and choosing bolder colors, like burgundy, red and purple. Bouquet color schemes can be monochromatic-all shades of purple, for example-or complementary. With bouquets getting brighter, they have become a real feature in wedding photography, in particular black and white photography with selective coloring. Roses remain a bridal bouquet standard, but other flowers are starting to make their way into the mix. Daisies, hydrangeas, lilies, peonies and tulips are popular choices, as are orchids. Many brides, in fact, are asking for more tropical flowers in their bouquets, either because of their theme or for a unique twist. While cascades of

Floral terms to know
Before discussing table settings for their weddings,

many couples find it helpful to brush up on some floral terminology before visiting florists. It can make you appear more knowledgeable and prepared if you understand what will be discussed and are able to choose what you want. It also helps to ensure your money is being spent in the best way possible. Here are some common and some lesser known florist terms that can be advantageous to know. *Bouquet: A dense bunch of blooms that are kept together in a bouquet holder, wired or tied with ribbon. *Crescent: One full flower and a flowering stem wired together to form a slender handle that is held in one hand. *Garden: A centerpiece featuring

Save-the-date card etiquette
More and more couples planning to walk down the aisle are embracing save-the-date cards to give guests adequate notice that there is a party on the horizon. Save-the-date cards do more than let guests know when you’re getting hitched. The cards are a preliminary way to keep guests informed and let them know they are, in fact, on the guest list. These cards haven’t always been so popular, but have risen in popularity due to longer engagement periods, a growing number of destination weddings and the growing number of couples with guests from all over the country, if not the world. Considering people often plan business trips, vacations and other excursions several months in advance, save-the-date cards help secure a greater number of attendees at

your wedding. Save-the-date announcements can vary in many ways. They may be postcards or magnets that can be attached to a refrigerator door. If you desire a cohesive theme to your wedding stationery, select the save-the-date cards at the same time you choose your wedding invitations. This way you can ensure that either the patterns, fonts, colors, or style of the cards will match. It will also help convey the tone of the wedding. Guests often take their cues regarding the level of formality of the wedding from the type of stationery couples choose. When to send out the save-the-date announcements is important as well. As a general rule of thumb, it is wise to mail out the cards 6 months in advance for a standard wedding. If the wedding requires travel or extended overnight accommoda-

tions, you may want to mail them out 8 months to a year in advance to give guests the time to investigate flight costs and hotel arrangements. A wedding also may necessitate planning a vacation or personal time off from work. Therefore, ample advanced notice is advisable. Be sure to make your guest list in advance of sending out save-the-date cards. Everyone who receives a card should also be sent an invitation prior to the wedding. Remember to include any members of your planned wedding party in the list of recipients. Just because a person has verbally confirmed attendance at your wedding doesn’t mean they should be excluded from subsequent announcements. Guests may talk to one another and it is best to avoid hurt feelings and any added drama before the wedding by treating everyone equally.

DELIVER YOUR MESSAGE with an ad in the Moneysaver Shopping Guide and/or Moneysaver Shopping News! Our display ads and reader ads are proven to work for you! SOUP UP YOUR YARD WITH HOMEGROWN SUPERFRUITS (NAPSA)-Superfruits-fruits that are exceptionally rich in vitamins and antioxidants-are popular ingredients in a variety of healthy foods. Fortunately, although "superfruit" connotes something rare and exotic, a surprising number of these plants, including aronia, elderberry and goji berry, are hardy shrubs that can be grown right in your backyard. They're easy to grow and require no spraying or complicated pruning and produce pound after pound of juicy, nutritious fruit every year. Aronia Aronia is a large shrub native to eastern North America. With showy white flowers in spring and blazing red leaves in autumn, it makes an excellent choice for landscaping around your home. Large clusters of glossy black berries ripen in late summer, making aronia a standout in the kitchen as well as the garden. The fruits are sometimes known as chokeberries because of their very sour flavor but they can be sweetened and used in juice, jam, desserts, even wine, which makes it even easier to savor their high levels of antioxidants and vitamins. In fact, they've been enjoyed in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and Russia for decades.

Elderberry plants don't mind cold weather, surviving through temperatures of -25° F, and they can grow well even in partial shade (up to four hours a day). For the most abundant elderberry harvest, you should put at least two plants in your garden. Goji Berries Goji berries are antioxidant-packed and sell for high prices at health food stores but they're actually easy-to-grow shrubs. Also known as wolfberry, the rich purple flowers appear in early summer and are followed by gleaming red berries. The plants produce fruit continuously until autumn and never need spraying or special attention. Though goji has been popular in China for many centuries, specially selected varieties have only recently become available in North America. These include Sweet Lifeberry and Big Lifeberry goji from Proven Winners ColorChoice Shrubs, and they were chosen for their exceptional vigor, flavor and size. Goji berries can tolerate temperatures as low as -20° F. They need to be grown in a sunny spot but they're not fussy about soil and need little water or fertilizer once they're established. They can be planted in the ground or grown in a large pot on a deck or patio. Learn More You can find all these plants at a garden center, in the fruits or the shrubs section. They cost between $20 and $50 depending on size. EASY MAINTENANCE TIPS (NAPSA)-Proper vehicle maintenance doesn't only mean you and your car can spend many happy years together. It can also mean that when the time comes to sell, you may get a better price. Here are a few things you can do to improve the life of your vehicle and impress prospective buyers: • Get it serviced regularly-Change the oil at specific mileage intervals recommended for your car. • Follow the manufacturer's service schedule-Depending on your car, this may include checking the coolant, power steering and brake fluid levels and rotating the tires. • Find and fix open re_calls-If your car has been recalled, it probably has a problem that can affect performance and safety. • Keep track of the service history-Prove that your car has been well maintained. Take good care of your car now and it may take better care of you when it's time to sell. A securtiy thread and microprinting were introduced to American monetary notes in 1990. Got stress? I read recently about a new type of beverage known as relaxation drinks. Evidently they help you recover from the day’s stress and the power you received from energy drinks. My wife came home from the grocery store one evening and showed me a bottle of dishwashing liquid. I read the label and it said, “Anti-Stress [dishwashing liquid] Aroma Therapy. Anti-Stress is enriched with the essence of Lavender for a soothing and relaxing scent.” Now I had heard of candles, bath and massage oils, and incense for stress relief through aroma therapy, but dishwashing liquid, right? We all get stressed out at some time or other, don’t we? Besides dishwashing liquid and drinks, try relaxing a little more into who you are each day your core values, priorities, and unique contribution - as you Work Positive.

Aronia tolerates winter temperatures as low as -40° F, and does best when planted where it will get at least six hours of sun each day. Elderberry Elderberry is another North American native shrub that you can count on to beautify the landscape and provide bumper crops of nutritious fruits. Varieties that have been se_lected for ornamental foliage are especially useful for home gardeners, as they are even more attractive than plain green wild types. Black Lace, which was developed in England, where elderberry flowers and berries are eaten regularly, has delicate, lacy foliage in a dramatic near-black color. Black Beauty has bigger, bolder foliage but the same dark purpleblack color. Both offer large pink flowers that give way to small black berries that are very high in vitamin C; research suggests they can be effective in minimizing flu symptoms.

Frying them in the kitchen leaves my clothes and kitchen smelling like bacon or sausage all the rest of the day and leaves my stove rather greasy. I have a large old electric skillet, so I plug it in on my patio and fry up several packages of these all at once. I just make it a project I do maybe once a month or so. I reserve some in the fridge (as much as I’ll use in a few days) and then I package up, label, and freeze the rest. I only have to wash the skillet once, have no greasy mess or smell in the house, and have pre-cooked meats ready for many meals after that. If you don’t have an electric skillet, an indoor grill will work well for this job also. -GH

We wish you all the best this holiday and want to remind you to play it safe. If your celebration involves alcohol, please designate a driver. Don’t drink and drive, and help anyone who may have had too much to drink find another way home. In addition, if your celebration involves fireworks, please follow these safety tips: • Purchase fireworks from reliable sellers. • Keep all fireworks away from young children. • Read and follow the instructions on all fireworks. • Light fireworks one at a time on a smooth, flat surface away from the house and other flammable materials. • Make sure everyone is out of the way before lighting fireworks. • Throw away any fireworks that do not light. Do not try to relight them. • Dispose of fireworks properly. Soak them in water and then throw them into the trash. • Keep a hose or bucket of water on hand in case of a fire.

As you know, we run many reader ads for government auctions, job positions, earn money at home, cash loans, credit cards, etc. Most of these ads come through state and national ad networks. Most of them are selling directories or listings of where to APPLY FOR what is advertised. This information may be available at less cost elsewhere. While these ads are screened where possible, we have no way of verifying the authenticity of their claims or the value of their product. The buying decision must be yours. If you have problems with any of these advertisers, please let us know and we will attempt to get you a refund. Most of the companies we have checked will refund their fees to unsatisfied customers. Read the ads carefully. Some charge a fee, as noted in the ad, directly to your phone bill when you call them. Once again, we can’t verify claims for every ad. Please consider their offer and make a voluntary and reasonable buying decision. Moneysaver Advertising

The good news is that there are simple steps you can follow to keep your eyes healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. Here are some tips from the experts at the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health. •Have a comprehensive dilated eye exam. Visiting your eye care professional for a comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to really be sure your eyes are healthy. Many common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and agerelated macular degeneration often have no warning signs. •Know your family's eye health history. Talk to your family members about their eye health history. It's important to know if anyone has been diagnosed with an eye disease or condition since many are hereditary. •Eat right to protect your sight. Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, particularly dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and collard greens, is important for keeping your eyes healthy. Research indicates there are also benefits from eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, tuna and halibut. •Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing diabetes and other conditions, which can lead to vision loss, such as diabetic eye disease or glaucoma. •Wear protective eyewear. Wear protective eyewear when playing sports or doing activities around the home or in the workplace. Make a habit of wearing the right type at all times. •Quit smoking or never start. Research has linked smoking to an increased risk of developing agerelated macular degeneration, cataracts and optic nerve damage, all of which can lead to blindness. • Be cool and wear your shades. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS ONE COUPON TOO MANY I am a very frugal person, but when I looked under my sink this week, I found several (about a dozen) containers of body lotion. Yet, I was still clipping coupons and buying lotion. This is a waste of my time, and it’s impractical to tie up my money in excess inventory. From now on, I will only clip coupons and look for sales on items that I will need in the next month to six weeks. I know this seems quite simple, but I never thought this process out in quite this way before. -Terry K. TOO MANY KEYS? I have accumulated many padlocks and keys over the years. To keep everything straight, as soon as possible, I coat the lock and matching keys with a couple coats of the same bright nail polish from a dollar store. This makes it easier to find on the key ring or in the key box. -Cheri in Brookings, OR

DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS DON’T DRIVE MUCH? We called our insurance company and explained that we are cyclists and use our bikes for all city errands and commutes. We drive our vehicle only when we go on vacations or on our planned errand day. We managed to put less than 8,000 km on our car last year. Our insurance was dropped down to an occasional driver status and our rates fell dramatically. If you are a cyclist or use mass transit, it is worth calling your agent! -Brenda K.

DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS FREE SPRING WARDROBE Having a new spring wardrobe may be out of reach, but if you have a friend who has similar tastes in fashion and who is (or was) your size, there’s a way around it. Simply have a clothing swap. If your buddy goes to a different church, perhaps you can trade Easter dresses. Each person would then be able to wear a new (to her) Easter outfit to church. Or maybe you would prefer to trade business outfits or items you’d wear to special events, such as a night on the town or a vacation. The trade can be temporary or permanent. If it’s a temporary trade, work out in advance what will happen if the garment is torn or stained. -LB

I put a heel from a loaf of bread in a container with hard brown sugar. It softened it in a matter of days. I can’t tell you exactly how long it takes. I just know I had some really hard brown sugar, and after putting a heel in with it, it was soft when I needed brown sugar the next time. -Marie DUKE CENTER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 26 Oil Valley Rd. HUNTERS, TRAPPERS TO BAG TICKET DISCOUNTS AT BALLGAME Outdoors Night at the Harrisburg Senators provides a bounty of fun activities. One, two, three strikes; you’re outdoors. The Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Harrisburg Senators are teaming to give fans of hunting and baseball a special night at the ballpark on Friday, June 21. Outdoors Night at Metro Bank Park provides discounted ticket opportunities for licensed Pennsylvania hunters and furtakers, and loads of outdoors-themed activities including archery instruction and shooting simulators. Additionally, the first 1,000 children ages 12 and under will receive a free hunter-orange Game Commission baseball cap. Pennsylvania hunters and furtakers can show their licenses at the Metro Bank Park box office to receive a $2 per ticket discount for themselves and their families. The discount can be applied to Reserved, Box, Field Box and Dugout Box seats. An identical discount also will be offered to hunters and furtakers on Thursday, July 18 and Thursday, Aug. 22. Box tickets can be purchased online at a $2 discount. To pre-purchase tickets, go to OUTDOORSNIGHT and enter OUTDOORS in all capital letters in the promo code box. Click the “Submit” button next to the code, then click on the blue plus sign next to the Box ticket option to choose a section and the quantity of seats. Game time is 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Those who want to experience all the night has to offer should plan to arrive early. The Game Commission plans to set up two shooting simulators at the park. The Beam Hit simulator teaches the fundamentals of marksmanship by allowing participants to fire a laser rifle at stationary targets. The Laser Shot simulator aims to replicate hunting scenarios on a video screen and educates participants about safe gun-handling and good shot placement. Those attending the game also will be able to try their hands at target shooting with bows and arrows, and there will be other demonstrations and displays around the ballpark as well. “We’re hoping to see lots of orange hats in the crowd and smiles on faces all around,” said Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe. “We’re happy, too, to provide hunters and trappers who are baseball fans, and their families, a night that combines so many of the things they enjoy.”

DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS FROM CLOSEOUT TO CONSIGNMENT I wanted to share a recent consignment store experience with fellow readers. I know that a lot of people swear by shopping at consignment shops for clothing, claiming that the best deals can be found there. I consign my children’s outgrown clothes at a local shop. I rarely find anything there to purchase because I seem to find better deals on clearance racks at department or discount stores. Just last week, I went to the consignment shop to drop off several items and they told me they had money to pay me on my account. With the money, they gave me a print out that listed the items that I consigned and the amount each item sold for. I was flabbergasted when I saw that an outfit I purchased at a discount store for $3.99 two years ago for my two-year-old daughter sold for $9. So, I walked away from the consignment shop with $4.50, actually making 51 cents on an outfit she wore for two summers! -K.

FREE KITTENS TO GOOD HOME, 2 male orange tigers and 2 female black and white tigers. call 716-378-2239. DOLLAR STRETCHER TIPS QUICK PARTY DECORATIONS Lately, it seems I’ve been hosting little gatherings at my home more frequently. Since many of these are fun holiday events for my three young nieces or gatherings for my teenage daughter and her friends, a fair amount of festive decorating is needed to set the mood. Instead of having to tape so many items up around the room for each gathering, I attached a small hook to opposite sides of my dining room that a cord can be stretched between. This cord can be fishing line, curling ribbon, clothesline, etc. The cord runs the length of my dining room table directly over it. Now, to decorate for each event, I buy themed decorations and tie them to the cord over the table. Curling ribbon the color of the items I am hanging looks very pretty because I can curl the tops of the ribbons over each item I hang. -Ginger
