KEYNOTES:
BETTER FROM THE STRETCH: Keys starter Tim Berry has actually pitched better this season with runners on-base than he has with the bases empty, working from the wind up. Batters are hitting a .309 clip against Berry when he ’s in the windup, but their average drops to .254 once he moves to the stretch. He ’s also been effective holding runners on, as only seven of 16 base-stealers that have run against him reached their destination safely. FUTURE STARS: The Keys’ left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez and Carolina ’s shortstop Francisco Lindor were selected to play in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures game on July 14 at Citi Field in New York City. Both players were named to the World roster, Rodriguez representing Venezuela and Lindor representing Puerto Rico. Rodriguez is 6-4 with a 2.85 ERA this season and Lindor, who will play in the Futures Game for the second year in a row, is hitting .307 with 83 hits and 18 steals. GONE FISHIN’: The Keys should have been happy to visit the Mudcats this week, after going 5-1 against the fish in the first half. Frederick swept Carolina in Zebulon in early May after taking two of three from the Mudcats in April, though the Mudcats won the first two games of this series before the Keys rallied to win yesterday.

This Day in Keys History
June 27, 1996: Sidney Ponson came just an out shy of a complete game win, but handed the ball to Alvie Shepherd for a one-out save in the Keys’ 3-2 win against Winston-Salem. Ponson went 8.2 innings and struck out 11, allowing two runs on four hits.
