Bible Study: One Day Is With the Lord A Thousand Years [2 Peter 3:8] Recently the Lord had put

on my heart 2 Peter 3:8 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.", and last night I began mediating on what the Lord was teaching me. So, now I want to share with you what I have learned so far. For mere man to begin to understand the vastness of eternity as compared to time as we were given by God Almighty, we need to only listen to how God himself has explained it. In 2 Peter 3:8, the Holy Spirit speaking through the apostle Peter explains the vastness of eternity in terms that man can understand using the measure of earthly time as an example. Man can only know the things which he can see, hear, feel, taste and touch in the visible world that surrounds him, but when it comes to understanding the invisible world that also surrounds him then man needs God to let him see and understand the invisible world that exist. It is impossible to see the invisible world without God's help and the Word of God holds the key to seeing and experiencing this invisible world. How is it even possible for man to understand eternity when man has only known the measurement of time? Well, a good first step to understanding the things of God is to turn to God for help. This is when the Word of God is most helpful in doing so. In the passage found in 2 Peter 3:8, the Holy Spirit explains the difference between time and eternity by teaching us that "that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" as found in the King James Version Holy Bible. For man can understand the measure of time of a "Day" which consist 24 hours including an evening and a morning, and man can understand that one "Year" consists of 365/24 hour days, and that a "Thousand years" consists of 365 thousand 24 hour days. But, even knowing this information it is still incredibly difficult to wrap our heads around the endless measurement of eternity that God knows. Eternity is endless, it is forever and forever is forever. God had originally created man to live forever, but because man is not God nor did God create man to be gods; God gave man a measurement of time which consists of units of years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds to do the things which God intended man to do in the life that God gave to man. Eternity cannot be measured in the units of time that God has given to man in which to live life. Eternity is endless - it is forever. The oldest man to have ever lived was a man named Methuselah as recorded in Genesis 5:27 "And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died." Methuselah was the son of Enoch who had walked with the Lord for 300 years and who was taken by God to be seen no more. Enoch never died for the Lord had taken

Enoch to be with Him without having to experience a physical death. But, that is another story. Even though Methuselah lived longer than any other man in history he still did not live one day with the Lord by the measurement of a day in God's time which is eternity. Methuselah loved the Lord deeply and the Lord loved Methuselah deeply and they walked together for every one of those 969 years, however Methuselah died thirty-one years short of living for 1000 years or one day's measurement on the eternity time-table. Something interesting just had been shown to me by the Holy Spirit that I had never recognized before now and something very interesting that I want to share with the rest of you. We all know now that Enoch walked with God for 300 years after he had begat (had) his son Methuselah, but Enoch was 65 years old at the time when Methuselah was born. The three hundred years that Enoch had walked with God was a measurement of time recorded in Genesis 5:22 "And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:" and the age of Enoch at the time of Methuselah birth is recorded in Genesis 5:21 "And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:". So, what is this incredible thing that the Holy Spirit revealed to me...that Enoch had lived 365 days of years before God had took him. This measurement of years which Enoch lived before God took him is recorded in Genesis 5:23 "And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:". Also, the event that took place in which Enoch was took by God is recorded in Genesis 5:24 "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." Everything in the Word of God has profoundly deep meaning as of the layers of earth that is beneath our feet. If we were to go seeking some historic site that had been buried beneath the earth for thousands of years, we would not bring in heavy machinery to begin digging and moving massive layers of earth at the site because we would either destroy the artifacts or miss something very important that would give us more insightful understanding of the treasures yet discovered deeper within the layers beneath. We would carefully dust away one small layer at a time and examine even the tiniest morsels uncovered at the site until we understood what it was we were handling. This process of dusting one small layer of earth at a time could take years or even a lifetime to completely uncover the entire site and the treasures buried beneath our feet. With each layer that we go deeper giving us clues and information to prepare us to begin to understand those things that we later uncover in the layers of earth. The study of the Word of God is just like that...each and every word prepares our soul and spirit to understand the next word or words of information that God is sharing with us. Every single passage and or verse in the Word of God contains massive amounts of information that prepares us to understand deeper and more insightful things about God

our Creator. The more that we turn to the Word of God and read, pray about what we are reading and mediate (think) about what we have read then the more God will reveal to us through time. Those of us belonging to God by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ will have all of eternity with God learning from God the things about God, as it says in Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" and also in 1 Peter 22:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." So, brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord, take comfort that we have eternity waiting for us to be with the Lord God Almighty forever experiencing and learning of our Heavenly Father's profoundly deep love He has for us all.
