School Meals
Arrangements for buying food Healthy food is available during 1st and 2nd break. The school operates a biometric system for all food and drink bought in the school canteens. Arrangements for this are detailed below. Students may not leave the school premises at break times.

Biometric Cashless System

The school is operating a Biometric Cashless Catering System. Students will no longer need to carry cards and allows parents to limit how much a child can spend each day. The system stops the need for students to carry cash and can give a breakdown of the items purchased if required. Money can be loaded onto your childs account via revaluation machines in school using the machine in the Atrium. This can be done before morning school or during break. Cash is placed directly into the machine or cheques (made payable to AIP) can be given to the Canteen Manager. In September 2013 we will start to introduce Parent Pay to further help parents in this process. If you have any objection to the school using your childs biometric data you will need to complete a letter which is in your pack and return to the Finance Department. More information on the Biometric System can be found on the school website. Children receiving free school meals will automatically have their accounts credited with 2.10 per day, which must be spent on a daily basis. However, additional money can be placed on their accounts if parents wish. Students may not leave the school premises at break times.

Year 7

FORM TUTORS
At Kingsbury School, we care about students social development. Our first concern with Year 7 students is to help them to become confident and effective members of Kingsbury Schools community. Each student is a member of a Form Group. In Year 7, these groups are called 7K 7I 7N 7G 7S 7B 7U

Each Form Group is mixed ability and will have a tutor who will be the first point of contact for students. The Form Tutors encourage members of the Form to have excellent attendance and punctuality, to bring equipment and homework diaries, to wear full school uniform, to take part in school activities and to make good/outstanding progress in all school areas. A student who has any concern about school should discuss it firstly with their Form Tutor. The work of the Form Tutors is co-ordinated by an Achievement Leader, who is responsible for the overall welfare of the students in the Year Group. Any parent who has a concern about any aspect of their childs education during the school year, should contact the Form Tutors by telephoning the school on 0121 373 1080. If it is a matter of urgency, please call Mr Brotherton, Year 7 Achievement Leader. Should you need to visit the school urgently you must phone ahead to make an appointment as staff have teaching commitments. During the first term, you will be invited to talk to your childs Form Tutor about how he/ she is settling into Kingsbury School and Sports College.

Creating a Positive Climate for Learning

Students are expected to be prepared for learning and have high expectations. This means being in uniform, with equipment, a bag, a planner, ready to work hard and cooperate. In and out of lessons they should follow staff instructions, show care and consideration for others and take responsibility for their own behaviour. To help them do this we offer rewards to encourage positive behaviour and apply sanctions when necessary. Rewards The school recognises that students are more motivated and responsive when they are encouraged and their achievements are rewarded and celebrated. As a school, we develop a culture of celebration and praise. We encourage all students to develop five personal qualities which will support their learning and social development. These are known as PACER. Students are rewarded for demonstrating these qualities, both in and out of lessons, using a rewards system called our Vivo Miles. Vivo is a revolutionary new way of keeping all students motivated to earn rewards and work towards their potential. Students earn points called Vivos, an artificial currency that can be cashed in for a whole selection of rewards from trips to queue jump passes. Top earners will be presented with Gold Vivo cards and a whole range of privileges as a result. An automatic text messaging system lets you know when your child has been rewarded. In addition, each student has an account which is updated immediately and can be accessed by you and your child at any time you wish.

Creating a Positive Climate for Learning

Sanctions Stage 1 A range of low level sanctions are employed to get students back on track in lessons, these include: verbal warning, moving seats, last out of the room, short detention (10mins). Stage 2 If the problems continue then it will be referred to the appropriate Curriculum Leader or Achievement Leader. They may apply the next level of sanction e.g. 30 minute departmental detention, departmental report card or isolate the student for the rest of the lesson. A standard letter is available to inform parents of detention and at least 24 hours notice should be given. Stage 3 If disruption is at such a level as to cause serious concern, the issue will be referred to the appropriate Achievement Leader or patrol staff who isolate the student before considering the next steps. This may involve contact with parents, isolation for the day or possible exclusion. Stage 4: Persistent poor behaviour will be referred to the Director of Key Stage or Deputy Headteacher and is likely to lead to exclusion or time in the Learning Zone. Mobile Phone Policy Mobile phones must not be seen or heard in or between lessons. Students may use them at break times with staff permission. Failure to follow this policy will result in the device being confiscated.

CHILD PROTECTION
The school follows the procedures recommended by the Local Authority in dealing with issues of child protection. Designated Senior Person for Child Protection is Mrs M Sanders - Deputy Headteacher.
