com [LRL] Apartment Grounds worker gets fired for not being fluent in English
I strongly believe that voter apathy of so many thousands of Mexican-Americans and others, has allowed racist individuals to take over the State and National legislatures. We must continue organizing, registering and getting more voters to the polling places. DREAMERS cannot vote, but they can certainly help themselves, by driving eligible voters to the polling places..... and we should strongly encourage them to do so. We simply cannot afford to allow voter apathy to continue; negatively affecting the properly-funded education and health care of our children and better care for our Seniors. The repuglicans see the writing on the wall, so they are trying every trick in the book (and maybe some new ones) to keep our people away from the polls. Man, the comments by Riverside Funeral Homes and then this one with the Vistas at Seven Bar Ranch Apts. are very disturbing and represent hate language. Dear Ralph, My name is Priscilla Monge, I’m writing to you today because I need help for my father. My father’s name is Camilo Monge, he is 55 years old. My father was working at the Vistas at Seven Bar Ranch Apartments for almost 12 years, he started in August 2001. He was fired on the 11th of June, 2013, because he didn’t speak English. My father was a groundskeeper and/or maintenance employee, his job duties were to keep the apartment’s grounds clean, pick any trash left out, clean out the apartments when the former tenants left, clean the laundry facilities, and offices. He was always at work when he had to, and was never late. He had no complaints over his job performance or anything else. The only time he wasn’t at work was on September, 2012, he was on medical leave as a result of a heart attack. However, as soon as he recovered he was back. In these 12 years he had never been told that not speaking English was an issue. On June 11th of 2013 he was called into the office after his work day was over, and the apartments’ manager Kara Buchman was there and Charo Flores, Able Services financial manager, was on the phone’s speaker. Since Kara doesn’t speak Spanish, she would communicate what she wanted to tell my father to Charo, and she would translate on the phone. They told my dad that they had to let him go because he didn’t speak English. They didn’t tell him anything else but gave him a paper to sign (English), he is not aware of what the paper stated, and he was not given a copy. He was given his last check, and that was the end of that.

We would appreciate it if you can help us out, we would like to let everyone know about this, as it is a discrimination against my father. This was an unfair termination. My father was dedicated to his job, and now he is stressing, he has a mortgage and unpaid medical bills. Please feel free to contact me for any further information, Thank you.

Sincerely, Priscilla Monge
