Monkey Report
A Monkey is an omnivore which means it eats both plants and other animals. They eat leaves, fruit, seeds, nuts grass, roots, eggs, insects, spiders, and small mammals. Monkeys are Primates this also includes apes and people. Monkeys live in groups called a troop. They also eat flowers, bark, bulbs and lizards. A lot of monkeys are plant eaters. But the Baboon is a will occasionally eat meat. When a occasionally presents itself they will steal food from a chimpanzee and other animals. Baboons do not appear to hunt like lions and wild dogs do. Some monkeys can be found in central and South America, New World monkeys live there. Old world monkeys live in Africa, Asia and Europe. People in India let monkeys live on the grounds in their temples. They pick fruit from their gardens and sometimes they even eat on the tables. Today people in India consider the monkeys to be pests. A Monkeys habitats are in forest, grasslands, high plains, and mountain ranges. Some monkeys are arboreal which means some monkeys spend most of their lives in the trees. Unlike other monkeys like baboons and macaques live on the grounds. New World monkeys are smaller than Old World monkeys are larger than New World. Monkeys also live in Jungles; there are 250 known species of monkey. Worldwide ranging from chimpanzees to the tiny pygmy marmoset. Monkeys are everywhere in just a few centimeters tail. Monkeys are very good at climbing and leaping. Monkeys are very smart animals. New World monkeys are very good at climbing and leaping. New World monkeys live in trees. Some of them have very special prehensile which means for gripping tails. Old world monkeys live in grasslands, forests and swamps. The Old World does not have prehensile tails. But they have very tough sitting pads that are behind them. Monkeys can live for 10 to 50 years it really depends on the species. The Howler monkey is the loudest monkey. Their deep call can be heard for 2 miles (3 kilometers) though out the forest. More than 3 miles (5 kilometers) that is in open lake areas. Males use their call to announce their territory to call to their troop. The Howler monkey can also be heard from 10 miles away. All New World

monkeys and old world all have forward facing eyes. All the faces of New World Monkeys and Old world have very different faces. All monkeys have different types of noses; cheeks and dumps. Some monkeys also eat foliage, and berries. Some monkeys hunt birds and mammals. Monkeys have been known for organizations for training certain type of monkeys for helping monkey helpers to assist for quadriplegics and other people. Vervet monkeys have a very special call to warn its troop that theres danger near by. The monkeys predators are eagles, pythons and leopards. The biggest monkey is the baboon. It can grow about up to 80 pounds (36 kilograms). The smallest monkey is the pygmy marmoset. It can grow about 3 to 5 ounces up to (85 up to 140 grams). All Monkeys tails are prehensile which means that they can grasp better objects almost better then human hands. The New World monkeys are the Golden spider monkey, the capuchin, the black howler, the muriau, and the Pygmy marmoset. The spider monkey has long arms, legs and tails, that helps them swing through branches and vines. They are the true gymnast of the forest. They sometimes ranch about 4 miles and (six kilometers) an hour. The Capuchin monkey is mostly seen in Zoos and Circuses. The black howler is one of the biggest species of monkey. Monkeys use different noises, facial expressions and body movements to get communicate with each other. Old World monkeys also live in Japan as will. The Old World monkeys habitats are rainforest, islands, steppes, mountains and the savanna. The New World monkeys also live in Mexico. New World monkeys habitats are tropical rainforest. The marmosets and Tamans are found in the central and in South America. Their habitats are tropical rainforest and scrubland. Spider monkeys spend their lives hanging from branches, by their tails. The Capuchin monkeys are high intelligence which makes them do many tricks. The capuchins spends their lives on the ground then other new world monkeys. The howler monkeys are often too hear in the morning. Howlers use their calls to warn rivals to stay away from their territory. Adult monkeys weight is up to 35 pounds and measure 5 feet length. The male will assist to birth of young and carries their babies behind their backs. The black howler is one of the biggest species of monkey. Some Adult monkeys can range about 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to1.2m). Baby monkeys are quite helpless in many ways. Young monkeys have the ability to cling to its mother on its hands and feet. Learning how to cling is really important for a baby monkey. For a mother that uses her own hands

and feet to get around in trees. All monkeys offspring have very long childhoods. It can sometimes last about 3 years. When baby monkeys are really young they stay close to their mothers. The mothers tails can kept their babies from getting away or getting into trouble. When monkey grows older they will start to play with other monkeys. By playing with each other. Monkeys may learn how to live in a group. They will learn physical skills that will be important to their lives on the grounds, or in the trees. The places where monkeys are being worshipped. There are no extinct monkeys yet. But in many parts of the world monkeys habitats are disappearing fast. But even though special lands had been set aside for monkeys in many parts of Asia and Africa. There are about 400 monkeys left in the world today. Monkeys have been hunted for their stomachs as medicine. Monkeys have been killed for their meat and fur. Farmers kill them for raiding crops. The muriqui is the most endangered monkey. But there are more in South America rain forest. The muriqui does not really do well in captivity. That is what I know about monkeys.
