From the desk of CAAYE Founder President, Dr Rahul Mirchandani Dear Friends, It is with immense pleasure that CAAYE presents you with its first periodical newsle er. Through this publica on, the Branding and Communica ons team of CAAYE, currently led by Ms Nurul-Huda Afandi, from JCI Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, has successfully chronicled the array of ac vi es that CAAYE and its stellar member organisaons in Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have undertaken in the Asian Region to create a be er youth entrepreneurship ecosystem. We do hope that you fill find the sharing of these best prac ces and key programme informa on useful. The Inaugural CAAYE Young Entrepreneur Summit was hosted in Mumbai, India by CII’s Young Indians. The event saw par cipa on by over 200 delegates from member countries. The past few months, CAAYE and all member organisa ons worked hard to present the historic communiqué which captured the voices of over 25,000 young Entrepreneurs represented by the 9 member organisa ons of CAAYE to Heads of State, Ministers of Youth and Senior officials in the respec ve Ministries.

The communiqué was also presented at the 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers mee ng (8CYMM) to Youth Ministries of all 35 Commonwealth countries in a endance at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and to the United Na ons Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Youth. We also had an audience with the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea at the Grand opening ceremonies where he showed keen interest in forming a CAAYE-like alliance for the Pacific region. Similar interest was shown for Africa and the Caribbean regions by the Ministers from Samoa, Zambia and Namibia. The Youth Ministers collec vely applauded the construc ve recommenda ons made by CAAYE’s members in the communiqué aimed at improving access to finance for young entrepreneurs and crea ng a mentorship culture and educaon system that encourages youth entrepreneurship in the Region.

The 8CYMM’s Ministerial communiqué has formally endorsed the CAAYE communiqué and the voices raised in Mumbai at our Summit were heard with great interest by all member governments of the Commonwealth. CAAYE has thus proved that our ‘network of networks’ is a recognized champion of youth entrepreneurship in Asia and, as a part of the official Commonwealth process, is able to engage, contribute to and impact the work of the Commonwealth. CAAYE was also accorded a special privilege with CAAYE’s Representa ves from all member countries being invited to London for the Commonwealth Day celebra ons. CAAYE Representa ves from India, Pakistan, Brunei, Malaysia and Bangladesh had the opportunity to meet with Her Majesty QUEEN ELIZABETH II, Head of the Commonwealth, and His Majesty The Duke of Edinburgh at Malborough House, to provide them a brief on CAAYE and our acvi es in the Asian Region. This was a ROYAL recogni on of our contribu on to building youth enterprise in Asia. We were also invited to address the Commonwealth High Commissioner’s Banquet where recommenda ons of the CAAYE communiqué were presented to the London based High Commissioners of all Countries of the Commonwealth. We also spoke at the House of Lords of theUK Parliament, on invita on by the Commonwealth Council on Educa on, to provide our recommenda on. CAAYE presented case studies and shared Asian best prac ces on ‘Integra ng Educa on and Skills programmes to promote youth entrepreneurship’.

While in London, CAAYE also met with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, DFID, Young Brits, James Caan Foundaon and the Girl Guides Associa on to explore opportuni es of working together in the Region.

CAAYE also ac vely par cipated in the Asia Conference on Financial Inclusion and Financial Literacy held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This was an ideal pla orm to connect with the Governors and Senior Officials of various Central Banks across the Asian Region and advocate banking reform that will provide more inclusive, fair and transparent financial access for ‘young in business’. We do hope that CAAYE’s construc ve recommenda ons will be considered by the financial ins tu ons in Asia. Planning has also begun for CAAYE’s flagship Young Entrepreneur Summit scheduled in Colombo in November 2013, in the days leading up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government mee ng. The Secretary-General of the Federa on of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, CAAYE’s host member organisa on has offered full support to CAAYE and will soon be rolling out the red carpet for another historic gathering of Asia’s best and most dynamic young entrepreneurs. We are also looking forward for our Interim Mee ng and Leadership Assembly scheduled in Singapore in June 2013. CAAYE is a strong movement for suppor ng youth entrepreneurship in Asia. Above all, the efforts of the CAAYE Representa ves from each of the member organisa ons have been the pillars efforts and me.

It has indeed been a busy and very produc ve days. CAAYE wishes to thank the invaluable support extended on which CAAYE’s founda ons are being built. I must sincerely appreciate each of them - the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Director of Youth Affairs, the Regional Director of the Commonwealth Youth Programme-Asia Centre, Programme Manager of the Commonwealth Youth Programme in London and all senior officials within the CYP. Their recognion of CAAYE’s poten al to contribute on various regional and Pan Commonwealth pla orms has gone a long way in spreading our message and making.
