KEYNOTES:
KEEP IT ON THE GROUND: Through five starts, Keys starter Brady Wager has proven most effective when he’s inducing ground balls, which is to be expected for a sinker-ball pitcher. Wager’s recorded groundout to air-out ratios of 1.84 and 1.60 and 2.00 in his last three starts, in which he’s allowed a combined six earned runs over 18 innings pitched. In his first two starts, he had 0.60 and 1.14 ratios, and allowed 11 earned runs in 8.2 innings. POSSIBLE PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS: Frederick is fighting Wilmington and Lynchburg for the second-half playoff berth in the Carolina League North. The Keys are 3-4 against the Blue Rocks and Hillcats in the second half, coming off back-toback three-game series with their division rivals. In three of the last four seasons, the team in North with the best record against their second-half playoff competition has gone to the postseason. The Keys lost two of three in their first series against Wilmington as they enter this four-game series on the Blue Rocks’ turf. GET A WHIFF OF THIS: The Blue rocks struck out 18 Keys last night, three players fanning three times. One of those was Brenden Webb, who leads the Carolina League with 96 strikeouts, surpassing Winston-Salem’s Courtney Hawkins. The only Key to bat and not strikeout last night was first baseman, Christian Walker.

This Day in Keys History
July 10, 1996: Frederick shut out Wilmington 1-0 on the road, Nerio Rodriguez throwing seven innings and striking out 10 batters. Mike Wolff drove in Harry Berrios to score the game’s only run. Rodriguez won the game and Mike Trimarco picked up the save.
