2 | MISSION SAN LUIS REY PARISH, Oceanside, California — July 21, 2013

As in Garrison Keillor’s na ve Lake Woebegone; it’s been a quiet week at San Luis Rey Parish. Our parish Secretary, Shirley Gonzalez, has le us for maternity leave and is expected to have her baby soon. Please keep her and her li le one in your prayers. Over at the Mission the new friars are se ling down. We have grown from eight to a community of fi een since the beginning of July. It is good to have new voices at prayer and at the table – we are definitely fortunate to have such an interes ng group of Franciscans under one roof. The Spiritual Camp for the Hispanic Community was a resounding success last weekend. People camped outside at the back of the Mission and engaged in group conversa on and prayer over three days. There was fun too and good food, as you’d expect at any gathering of our La no sisters and brothers. Congratula ons and thanks to Fr. Luis, Fr. Arturo and all their fellow organizers! Next Sunday we say farewell to our World Youth Day Pilgrims who are off to see Pope Francis in Rio. They fly off on July 22 and will spend over a week as pilgrims with thousands of other Catholics from all over the world, celebra ng faith and praying for us all. The group will join the assembly for Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and receive our blessing before they leave. We wish them Godspeed and a blessed me in Brazil. We wish all the young people par cipa ng in Steubenville - San Diego well in their weekend of prayer and praise at USD on the last weekend of July. They too will gather with hundreds of young people from the diocese to learn about and celebrate their Catholic faith. Thanks to all who have made our “July Pool Par es” at the Mission so enjoyable! We have had two so far and it was great to see so many of our young people show up. A special thanks to Master Chef, John Arguello, for his skills at the BBQ grill….all I can say is, “yummmm!” Have a blessed week.

If you are 21 and older you will be welcome to this monthly gathering which takes place at the Mission from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on the 3rd Wed. of every month. What do we do? We have a room at the Mission and we will…  Enjoy some social me together  Do Lec o Divina together (take a piece of Scripture and reflect on it, see what it says to us…)  Have some conversa on/sharing on faith  End with prayer For more informa on email me at This is a Year of Faith ini a ve at San Luis Rey Parish throughout 2013.

Padre Adrian

O Father, You sent Your Eternal Son to save the world and chose men and women, through Him, with Him and in Him, to proclaim the Good News to all nations. Grant us the graces necessary so that joy may shine in the faces of all young people, the joy of being, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the evangelists the Church needs in the Third Millennium. O Christ, Redeemer of humanity, the image of Your open arms on the top of Corcovado welcomes all people. In Your paschal offering, You brought us by the Holy Spirit to an encounter of son-ship with the Father. Young people, who are fed by Eucharist, hear You in Your Word and meet You as their brother, need your infinite mercy to run the paths of the world missionary-disciples of the New Evangelization.

O Holy Spirit, Love of the Father and the Son, with the splendor of Your Truth and the fire of Your Love, send Your Light to all young people so that, driven by their experience of World Youth Day, they may bring to the four corners of the world faith, hope and charity, becoming great builders of a culture of life and peace and catalysts of a new world. Amen.

The day is finally here! Fifteen World Youth Day pilgrims from MSLRP are traveling to Rio, Brazil on Monday, July 22! Thank you for all your support! Please keep us in your prayers!
