ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
PRESIDENT: NEW ISRAEL IS DEAD, OASIS IS ALIVE
President Casey Hamlin has called upon New Israel to apologize to Vice President Titus Smith, the micronational community and himself after weeks of inflammatory statements, many of them deeply rooted in prejudice and lies. The firestorm started on July 14th, a day after Mark Williams, the leader of the hermit kingdom, put a post up on the New Israel News website entitled “A message to Casey Hamlin and anyone else who is for perversions” referring to Hamlin’s sexuality. Hamlin jokingly posted it on the MicroGroup, but micronationalists began condemning the post. A defiant Williams attempted to deflect the backlash and weakly defended his zealot beliefs. But Williams didn’t feel the need to stop there. He has continually attacked Vice President Titus Smith and Hamlin for their political beliefs, calling them “un-American”, “atheofacist”, “aggressive” and more. Smith has fired back relentlessly at Williams, while Hamlin has refrained from personally attacking anyone involved, instead attacking homophobia in the community, the Church and in New Israel, as well as showing his disapproval of theocracy. As with the ongoing “war”, the Oasis Islands still refuses to acknowledge its existence while the nation is prepared for a drawn out public relations battle, with the Oasis Government hoping that New Israel will sizzle and cease to exist, calling the toppling of New Israel a “key foreign policy goal for 2013”. So will New Israel continue its rise to intermicronational infamy? Or will it sizzle out and finally die the death its been avoiding for so long? We’ll see in the coming months what is the case.

The Re-Election Prospects
Can Hamlin and Smith Win it?
As November slowly approaches, the question on many Islander’s mind is “What has Hamlin done for us?” It’s a valid question, considering many of his major goals including large construction projects on our islands and a huge Fort Reagan Dedication have not come to fruition, what Hamlin has done for our nation is questionable. This question is essential when it comes to the polls. Right now Hamlin seems like a shoo-in for reelection, mostly on the account that he faces only token opposition. Senator Daniel Stefanko [C-SI] may run but is unlikely to win after his perceived failure of leadership during his administration in the Hamlinian Republic, which has been blamed by some for the collapse of the nation. His resignation from the Vice Presidency may also put a damper on his ability to seem like a strong leader. Amidst reports that Communist politician Phillip Heisner may run for Senate have started rumors that he may throw his hat in the ring. Even if he does run, Communism is not overly popular in the Islands, so he may have a tough time beating Hamlin’s popular free-market policies. In terms of a primary challenge, Vice President and Majority Leader Titus Smith [P-CD] seems likely to run as Hamlin’s running mate, which begs the question, “Is Smith too controversial to be on the ticket?”
“I don’t look ahead to the next election, I look ahead to the next project that I need to work on while I’m your President. I’m not in a constant state of election mind, although I must admit that I do get excited when they roll around”
President Casey Hamlin
Smith’s political views are very pronounced and unwavering, while Hamlin, the man at the top of the ticket, tends to be more calculating and reserved, only touching on third rail topics if he has too. Smith is open and adamant about topics like hacktivism and religion But Hamlin has said that he admires that unwavering spirit that Smith adds to the conversation, saying that his spirit on the issues “is one of the reasons I consider him a great man to put on the ticket”. So with Hamlin looking like a shoo-in in November, we can only wait until Oasis politicians begin making the big jump into the electoral arena and attempt to be the face of a rising nation.

The Minimum Wage Hike And Why it Harms American Workers
An Opinion Piece by President Casey Hamlin
President Barack Obama’s proposal to raise the minimum wage to nine dollars an hour is a proposal that would do more harm than good when it comes to the American worker. As a minimum wage worker, I know that my position, and many other positions for teenagers at the mercy of minimum wage, are dispensable and can be tossed at a moment’s notice. If a business cannot make a profit due to new and higher labor costs, the first thing in that business owner’s mind would be to cut some employees. That means teenagers like myself who are trying to instill responsibility at a young age will be left in the dust, competing for fewer jobs with millions of other unemployed teens, not to mention the nearly eight percent of American adults that are unemployed. For adults who need jobs, this will also affect their ability to retain and find jobs.
But the economy as a whole will be forever damaged by this reckless increase. The increases will impede on our already weak efforts to return manufacturers to America, where even before this increase is an expensive country to produce in labor wise and environmentally. We cannot create manufacturing jobs AND raise the minimum wage, and we will learn that should these increases take effect nationally. But of course this is if the measure would ever pass Congress, which if the Republicans continue controlling the House, will likely never happen. So another “bold” idea from the Obama Administration turns out to be a dud to the economy and to the American people.

Surviving the Heat Heat Wave Means Summer Fun
With temperatures in the eighties and nineties, Islanders have been hitting the beaches of Oasis and Serenity Islands to cool off in the refreshing river water. These beaches offer some of the best swimming in the entire river, which spans hundreds of miles before finally reaching Lake Ontario, from where you can reach the Atlantic Ocean. With a sandy bottom, relatively few critters and both shallow and deep water, one of these beaches is perfect for any occasion. Some Islanders take advantage of the excellent tanning opportunities, while others are burying each other in the cool refreshing sand. Anything to beat the sun bearing down on them. Of course THEOASISREVIEW reminds citizens to wear plenty of waterproof sunblock and to “Reapply, don’t fry” as well as to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Never swim alone in the river or after the official beach closing times of 9PM. For more weather information, you can visit The Weather Channel or AccuWeather.
