In addition to being a basic national industry and a contributor of the national economy, during
the past decades, the machinery industry has evolved into being a mainspring of the rapid
growth of Korean economy.
In 1973, the Korean government established a huge industrial complex in Changwon,
a city in South Gyeongsang Province, and aimed at developing the national economy.
That was the beginning of rapid development of the machinery industry.
Currently, the industrial production of Korea is world-level. In the world, Korea is
first in shipbuilding, 5th in steel production and automobile manufacturing, and
12th in total trade volume. As people have said, this is not a miracle but rather the
result of Korean ingenuity and hard work.
Nowadays, the focus is on strengthening productivity through technological
development and renovation. In this regard, innovation and the adoption of up-to-date
technology are needed to meet the increasing demand for high-tech machinery. KOAMI's
goal is to keep our business cycles high as global competition intensifies.

Promotion and Research
As a unified body with the authority to speak for the industry, KOAMI
develops mediumand long range strategies for the advancement of
the machinery industry and makes recommendations to the
government.
To help formulate policies for the machinery industry, KOAMI
submits memoranda and proposals to the government on a wide
range of policies that include taxation and finance propositions.
To assist its members and help set up efficient policies, KOAMI
works with the government on the adoption of its memoranda and

every odd year since 1977, and "International Factory Automation
SystemShowKorea (KOFAS)," which has been held every even year
since 1984.
The two fairs are the biggest machinery exhibitions in Korea.
KOMAF is organized to cover seven major categories of machinery:
metalworking & tools, FA system, pack & logistics, pump &
pneumatics, measurement & test, refrigerator & air-conditioner,
industrial machinery.
KOFAS displays the latest innovations in machinery and factory
automation that are related to the automotive industry,
metalworking, mechanical engineering and other industries.
KOAMI has also sponsored various other events during the
exhibitions such as technology seminars, international conferences
and government awards for technological development.
