Getting It Done

Make a Difference
Scripture Thought for the Week: So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). James 2:17 (Amplified Bible)
This is the final week in a series of devotionals written on the information gathered from a poster at an Arbys Restaurant I saw while traveling this summer. There were five simple phrases listed under the title of Getting it Done; Dream Big, Work Hard, Play Fair, Have Fun and todays subject, Make a Difference. I have attempted to use these messages to inspire readers of how we can get the job done for Christ this side of heaven using these same straightforward instructions. As I look over the three words, Make a

Difference, many thoughts come to mind and with the help of various writers and
materials found in research, heres what Ive found. Words of Wisdom:

Make up your mind you're going to make a difference to somebody else. You can be a blessing, you can say something positive to somebody else, and you can focus on making the most out of every moment. Life is too short to compare yourself with everybody else. God has a very special plan just for you. How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl
Bible Verses:

But those who wait for the Lord (who expect, look for, and hope in Him) shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up (close to God) as eagles (mount up to the sun); they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. (Amplified Bible) Isaiah 40:31 And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15 (ESV) I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1
(ESV)

"And of some have compassion, making a difference." The idea is that you make a difference by caring for others. There are many Bible examples but that's the clearest actual verse that comes to mind. Jude 1:22 KJV
Looking over these words of wisdom and scripture verses from various translations, it appears that the way we make a difference in our spiritual lives is to love and assist others. The Christian life is not all about us. God has saved and redeemed us so that we might become His hands and feet to embody the love He has shown us to our fellowman. Then by our deeds and actions we are able show the compassion of the Lord Jesus. The previous four ingredients that have been posted these last few weeks have basically been about us. How we can dream big, work hard, play fair and have fun while learning how to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus for all He has done for us. As we learn all these skills our service produces a uniqueness that demonstrates that working for Christ can be life changing and not dull, boring and only for senior adults! A few hints of how to make a difference; 1) Make up your mind you're going to make a difference to somebody else. You can be

a blessing, you can say something positive to somebody else, and you can focus on making the most out of every moment.
Find someone you can bless. Pray earnestly before leaving your home in the morning that God will send someone your way that will move you to take action on their behalf. Whether in word or deed, pass along an act of Christ.

(Amplified Bible) Isaiah 40:31
2) Life is too short to compare yourself with everybody else. God has a very special

plan just for you.

One of the biggest mistakes we make as humans is comparison. Never compare your service to that of another. God has uniquely gifted us in order that the world will be surrounded by atypical individuals. Use that special talent or diversity to bring others to the foot of the Cross of Christ!

And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15 (ESV)
3) How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to

improve the world. Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl

And this beautiful quote from a young girl that died in the concentration camps during WWII. What an outlook to one who lived and died in her youth. She carried the hope of a better world in the midst of madness and destruction of a nation of people. We have the opportunity to start improving of the world today by simple acts of kindness!

I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1

Hopefully you have gleaned a little something from the past weeks of study. May God bless as you work diligently to bring honor and glory to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

May we constantly come before you, Lord Jesus, in repentance for our sins and earnestness to begin another new day of service to you. May our lives show the compassion that is needed in a world that desperately needs a Savior. In Jesus name, Amen!
