NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact Information Name: Laura Bracken Phone: (509) 252-5060 Email: email@example.com Allegro Baroque & Beyond ends Royal Fireworks Concert July 22, 2013, Spokane, Washington — Allegro Baroque and Beyond announced that the 35th Royal Fireworks Concert on Sunday, July 28, will be the end of the line for the long-running program, which has been serving up a unique combination of early music and fireworks for free since 1978. “Allegro is grateful that we’ve been able to give this gift to the community for 35 years, and we are heartbroken that we can no longer fund the program, but it takes a tremendous amount of money to produce, and we have determined that we can no longer sustain the losses,” said Laura Bracken, President of the Board of Trustees. The Royal Fireworks Concert perfectly fulfilled the organization’s mission statement of producing professional period-music concerts and related arts events for the people of the Inland Northwest by combining its core values of historic faithfulness, artistic excellence, education and community enhancement. The concert is the brainchild of Allegro’s former Artistic Directors and founders Beverly Biggs and David Dutton, who have helmed the production since its inception in 1978. Starting with an audience of about 3,000, the concert grew into a fixture of the Spokane summer, where every year 30,000 gathered in Riverfront Park to hear live period music from the floating stage at the INB Convention Center, ending with a fireworks show choreographed to accompany Handel’s Royal Fireworks Musick. Over the years, the concert has also included a Royal Fireworks Festival in the Lilac Bowl meadow across the river from the stage and baroque dance programs presented by area ballet schools. This year, the Eastern Washington University Chamber Choir will perform Madrigals and other baroque music selections. Allegro acknowledges the generosity of the many community sponsors, volunteers, and participants that made it possible to continue the free program for 35 years. ***
