HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS Jesus Christ said: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) Have you done that, dear reader? In this verse we are instructed to seek FIRST God's Kingdom and His Righteousness and then all our daily needs will be added to us. By now, we know what the kingdom of God is… a right relationship with the Lord. But we are also taught in this verse to seek His righteousness. We need to know what Jesus meant by this word 'righteousness'. We cannot seek for something if we do not know what to look for. So let me begin by making the following statement: Righteousness means DOING that which is RIGHT! The word explains itself. Righteousness means DOING that which is right in the eyes of God … in other words, DOING the will of God. Again, examine yourself. Have you done what Matthew 6:33 says? Is the Kingdom of God … a right relationship with the LORD, your top priority in life or are there other things that are more important to you? Is doing the Will of God the most important thing in your life or are you more concerned about your own pleasures and comfort than about the Righteousness of God? If the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness are not THE most important things in your life, then you have a problem. If these things are not THE most important things in your life, then consider yourself unsaved! Then you still need to “SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS!”. Some of you might be asking: “What must I do then in order to be saved? What must I do to find the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness?” The answer to this lies in Romans 10:9-13. It reads as follows: “If you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Everyone believing on Him will not be put to shame." … For everyone, "whoever may call on the name of the Lord will be saved."” In other words, you must (with your mouth) confess your sins to the LORD Jesus and you must (with your heart) believe or put your trust in Him for the salvation of your soul. This is what you must do to be saved. It’s clear as a bell. Verse 10 says that with the heart we believe unto RIGHTEOUSNESS. If you truly
2 believe in your heart … you will WANT to do that which is right. But this promise in Matthew 5:6 only applies to those who HUNGER and THIRST after righteousness. Oh. For this. who do not wish to be a Christian? What wonderful promises do we have in the Word of God! Amen. You will desire to do the will of God. God demands a blood sacrifice to make an atonement for our sin (Hebrews 9:22).” (2 Corinthians 5:21). We had a price that we cannot pay. So no matter what we do. What more can He do that He has not done already? He already paid the price for you to become righteous as He is righteous! It is written: “For He has made Him who knew no sin. You will not desire to sin anymore. Jesus Christ knew no sin.” (Matthew 5:6) You will be filled! You will be satisfied! You don't have to be overcome by sin and to live a defeated life! No.” (1 Corinthians 1:18). but was made sin and took all the responsibility for our sin upon the cross. we deserved everlasting punishment as we have all sinned against a Holy and a Righteous God. You will desire to do what is RIGHT. You will feel like a new man or a new woman. but Jesus Christ came from God Himself to be our Lamb of God. old things have passed away. that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. it is the power of God. You will not desire to do wrong things anymore. The preaching of the cross is a key to understand Righteousness. Amen. This all sounds like foolishness to those who are lost. the Bible says: “For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those being lost. but those who are saved KNOW that there is power in the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse us from our sins. behold. Jesus Christ died on the cross for us and God’s demand for a blood sacrifice was satisfied and Righteousness and Justice was done. knowing these things. can ever take away our sins (Hebrews 10:4) as they are so infinitely great and offensive to God. so that we might be considered as righteous by God … as though we lived . He will surely answer your prayer! He loves righteousness! Remember that! This is a prayer that will definitely be accepted by Him. we chosed time and again to disobey the Laws of God. you will be changed. but to us being saved. You will not desire to do bad things anymore. Your life will be changed and it will be conformed to the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. You will desire the RIGHTEOUSNESS of Christ! Jesus said: “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “IF any one is IN Christ. Does this describe you? Do you desire the righteousness of Christ? What’s holding you back? Jesus Christ already died for you on the Cross. no! If you will only cry out to the Lord to fill you with His righteousness. to be sin for us. all things have become NEW!” Can this be said of you? If you’re saved. You will WANT to do the will of God. no sacrifice that we can ever make. that one is a new creature. Again. All of us realized that even with our own free will.
without selfcontrol.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). so shall it be also in the days just before Jesus comes back (Luke 17:26)! In the days of Noah. for instruction in righteousness. A good preacher of righteousness will preach a . blasphemers. It has also been prophecied in the Scriptures that “in the last days grievous times will be at hand. unthankful. a preacher of righteousness. and is profitable for doctrine. proud. bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. For men will be self-lovers. disobedient to parents. savage. but saved Noah the eighth one. but a book divinely inspired by God. This is not all. This is proof that the Bible is no mere book. So for certain Noah preached that people should get RIGHT WITH GOD! This is what Noah preached … and this is what we should preach . The New Testament refers to Noah as a preacher of righteousness. without natural affection. that He would die a violent and bloody death (Isaiah 53 & Psalm 22) and that He would rise again from the dead (Psalms 2 & 16). for reproof. It is written: “He (God) did not spare the old world. unyielding. don’t trust in your own good deeds to save you! Praying 5 times a day won’t save you. false accusers. money-lovers. puffed up.. Someone might object: “But I don’t believe in the Bible.3 Christ's own sinless life! So don’t trust in yourself! Trust in Jesus! Don’t be like the unbelieving Jews of old who tried to establish their own righteousness! In other words. it was written of Him specifically where (Micah 5:2) and how He would be born (Isaiah 7:14). thoroughly furnished to every good work. reckless. despisers of good. The apostle Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit the following words: “ All Scripture is God-breathed.” (2 Peter 2:5). that the man of God may be perfected. Attending church every Sunday won’t save you! Your money won’t save you! Jesus Christ ALONE can save you from sin and from Hell! HE is OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS as the BIBLE says! (1 Corinthians 1:30-31).” (2 Timothy 3:1-4) There are many people like this in our world TODAY! We are ALREADY living in the last days! Who cannot see it??? As it was in the days of Noah.. for correction. Jesus Christ fulfilled many more prophecies than the ones I have just mentioned. lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. boasters. we who live in the end-times. the Bible is the ONLY Book in the world that has fullfilled prophecies. Now why was Noah called a “preacher of righteousness”? What did he preach? What was his message? We know by now that righteousness is to DO that which is RIGHT in the sight of God. the earth was corrupt and full of violence (Genesis 6:11) … just like TODAY! Someone might wonder: “You talk about Noah… who was this Noah?” You can read all about Noah in Genesis 6-9. Hundreds of years before Jesus came. traitors. What makes you so sure that the Bible is the Word of God?” Well. unholy. that He would do miracles (Isaiah 35:5-6). This is evidence that cannot be argued against.
We need more preachers of righteousness like Noah! The Apostle Paul is another good example to look at. showing people their transgressions (Isaiah 58:1) and showing them the way of escape? You will find them on the streets of your cities. Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you. also the apostle Paul preached not ONLY the love of God. The Holy Spirit can only use preachers like these to “convict the world concerning sin. This is what a good preacher of righteousness will do! Like the Apostle John wrote: “We beheld His glory. Others preach only about the Love of God while ignoring the Law of God. Some preachers preach only the Law of God with no love. and the Judgment to come” (Acts 24:25). and shall say all kinds of evil against you falsely. and concerning judgment. Paul’s message was balanced.” (John 1:14). Rejoice and be exceedingly glad. We should preach BOTH about the Justice and the Mercy of God. for your reward in Heaven is great. Truth out of balance is heresy. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. and concerning righteousness. temperance. full of grace and of truth. towns or villages…perhaps! The preaching of the gospel will be most unwelcome just before world-wide judgment… just like in Noah's day. We should preach BOTH the Law AND the Love of God … in balance. Where are those in the Noah-company today? Where are those preachers of righteousness today? Where are those that lift up their voices like a trumpet.” (Matthew 5:10-12) . for My sake. We can see that in our days already! This is one of the signs that Jesus is coming soon! Are you ready? If not … then prepare to meet your God! (Amos 4:12). Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness! After you have indeed found the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. He was a preacher of righteousness! He reasoned with Felix “of righteousness. Behold the goodness AND the severity of God! (Romans 11:22). Truth in balance is righteousness.4 balanced message. This is heresy. …. otherwise Felix would not have sent for him so frequently to talk to him (verse 26). We should show people their sins and then point them to the Savior Who is able to save them from their sins. Jesus said: “Blessed are they who have been persecuted for righteousness sake! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.” (John 16:8). He not ONLY preached the law of God. will everything work out just right and smooth for you? Will your life be trouble-free and without worries and concerns? NO! Do not be surprised when hardships and persecutions comes your way when you’re truly following Christ. This is out of balance. otherwise Felix would not have trembled as he did in verse 25. We should show people BOTH their problem and then the solution … the way to escape out of their problem. the Joy and the Wrath of God.
don’t be discouraged when persecution comes your way. flying with private jets. you might respond to him by refering to all your persecutions as proof that your preaching are very fruitful. That’s why persecution is one of the fruits of righteousness. where’s your fruit? Where’s your converts?”. living in mansions. In the end. We have seen that persecution is one of the fruits of righteousness. You are in good company. God will put everything right and wipe all the tears from your eyes. The Apostle Paul mentioned a long list of hardships and tribulations in 2 Corinthians 11 to convince the Corinthians that he is a true minister and apostle of Christ. They are the ones driving around with fancy cars. They cannot stand it to hear a Christian preach that the things that they are doing is NOT RIGHT. God is glorified thereby. will be persecuted and hated by the world for that! The world really gets uncomfortable when they see someone truly following the LORD and doing the will of God from the heart. “if you truly suffer because of righteousness. They are the ones being well-spoken of by everyone. blessed are you. So. If you live a righteous life … doing what is right. making money of all the people attending their crusades and their so-called “healing & miracle-services”. God will have the last say. Remember. to the glory and praise of God. Are there others? Yes. The life of the Apostle Paul was exactly 180 degrees opposite from this! Just read 2 Corinthians 11 sometime and you will see how the life of a true minister of Christ should look like. there are. According to this Biblical-standard.5 Those who are doing what is right because they want to do the will of Jesus. And we know that persecution is a consequence of a godly life (see 2 Timothy 3:12). In the end. Hebrews 12:11 declares: “Now chastening . the professors of the Prosperity Gospel are very UN-FRUITFUL. Persecution is one of the fruits of righteousness. sellings thousands of books.” (1 Peter 3:14). Another fruit of righteousness is HOLINESS. You will have a GREAT reward in Heaven … JESUS said! There is no need to be afraid of a little persecution. that will automatically lead to holiness. wearing designer-clothes. but WRONG! Therefore they try to silence the Christian by persecuting him. So when you’re preaching again and someone asks you: “Hey. They have basically zero persecution and hardships in their lives. speaking on all the Christian TV-programs. The apostle Paul wrote about the fruits of righteousness in Philippians 1:11 as follows: “Being filled with the fruits of righteousness through Jesus Christ.” We read in 1 Peter 4 verses 14 and 16 that when you suffer or are persecuted as a Christian. a tree is known by it’s fruits … SOMEBODY said! (Matthew 7:20). maybe it’s because there is no righteousness in your life? Christian. How is your persecution-index lately? Is there any persecution in your life? If there is no persecution in your life. You are following in the footsteps of all the prophets and apostles who went before you.
True redemption is .6 for the present does not seem to be joyous. we see very FEW who do righteousness … we see very few who really believe in the LORD Jesus Christ. And so everyone displays their own form of Righteousness. Nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who are exercised by it. You do righteousness by obeying His commands. If you are like this. and those of today. These days. They want to be independent! They are most un-willing to receive correction from their brothers or sisters. The Jews of old. There are many people living today who are totally un-willing to allow other people to tell them what to do. Obedient faith is the first mark or evidence that we have true redemption…that we are really and truly born of God. STAND UP and start DOING righteousness! The apostle John wrote in his first epistle that “if you know that He is righteous. habits and all the formalities of their religion and so they think that by keeping all these. to correct others. they will somehow be admitted to Heaven. men and women of God. And once you have made peace with God. Muslims believe that by keeping the 5 pillars of their faith. they will merit their entrance into Heaven. were and are still more concerned about the externals of their religion than the internals. most people are doing what is right in their own eyes (Judges 21:25). (Matthew 5:20) They like the ceremonies. They concentrate on the externals of their religion while their hearts remains sinful and unchanged like those of any unbeliever.” Righteousness is DOING! It is a life! The Obedience of Faith! If you really believe in Jesus. then you will DO what HE says! Looking around today. But those who have really submitted to God’s righteousness will cling to Christ as their RIGHTEOUSNESS and will DO the things that HE commands them to do. How does the LORD correct people? He uses His Word (the Bible) and He uses His disciples. you know that everyone who does righteousness has been born of Him. the LORD chastens us to correct our lives that we might be partakers of his holiness (see verse 10). Many of the world’s cults like the Watchtower Society (also known as Jehovah’s witnesses) belief that their good works will help them to be saved. Everybody ‘manifest’ or displays their own form of righteousness… like the Jews of old who think that by keeping the Law of Moses they will score points with God and so be saved (Romans 10:3).” (James 3:18). it will yield the fruit of righteousness.” Why do parents chasten their children? To help them to do what is right and to stop doing what is wrong! Likewise. If you are willing to receive correction from the LORD without hardening your heart. Muslims have the same problem. you are actually resisting the correction of the LORD! Repent and humble yourself before God! Make peace with God so that the fruit of righteousness may be sown in your life as the Apostle James wrote: “The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. rituals. but grievous.
” (Proverbs 4:23) When you are tempted to do something wrong … RESIST it! “Flee youthful lusts. you can’t help being tempted. but you are surely to blame if you give in to those temptations … even the Sinless. the more you want to do it! And so your footsteps becomes more fixed in the ways of the LORD. But if you allow temptations to come into your heart. (2 Timothy 2:26). if you read immoral books or magazines. Rigtheousness protects the heart. Lamb of God was tempted in all points just as we are. It is a continuous life of patterning our lives after Christ's. We have no reason to give in to temptations … It is written: “No temptation has taken you but what is common to man. that you may be able to withstand in the evil day. it will rob you of your breastplate of righteousness.” (1 Corinthians 10:13). you might be wondering: “What is this breastplate of righteousness and how and why do we need to put it on?” If you look at the armor of a soldier… where will you find the breastplate? Around the chest! And what does it do? It protects the heart! Now back to Ephesians… Paul talks about the breastplate of righteousness. (Hebrews 4:15). and having on the breastplate of righteousness…” Now. If we want to stand in these evil days … and these days are surely filled with more temptations and wickedness than ever before in the history of mankind … then we really . your heart will be drawn after these things and your desires to do the will of God will weaken and then the Devil will take you captive to do his will. but God is faithful. but you can surely prevent it from making a nest in your hair! Likewise. but with the temptation also will make a way to escape. Therefore stand. but without sin. to stand. This is the reason why King Solomon wrote: “Keep your heart with ALL diligence. it will rob you of your desires to do righteousness and you will be exposed to the darts of the enemy! If you look at immoral videos or movies. then you seriously need to examine yourself …whether you are in the FAITH (2 Corinthians 13:5)! Obedience is SOOOO important! How will you be able to stand in these evil days if you don’t OBEY the Lord Jesus? The apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:13-14 the following: “Therefore take to yourselves the whole armor of God. The more you DO righteousness. but the giving over of yourself to temptation is SIN. so that you may be able to bear it. having your loins girded about with truth. for out of it are the issues of life. who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able. Remember there is a difference between temptation and sin. and having done all. If this does not describe the course of your life … if you do not pattern your life after that of Christ. and follow righteousness…” (2 Timothy 2:22) Keep on the breastplate of righteousness and DO what is RIGHT! Temptation itself is not sin. It is like a bird flying over your head … you can’t help it if a bird flies over your head.7 not just a one-time experience some time in the past.
however imperfectly. it's no use striving against sin. striving to live your life as Jesus did. this is not to say that you should give up your fight against sin! NO! NO! You must not think "Well." No. you will have serious problems on the Day of Judgment! Remember. let no one deceive you. If you are not doing righteousness. When you really and sincerely follow after holiness. We on the other hand. He knows whether you sincerely intend to forsake all sin and to be holy as He is holy. I do not want these words to be spoken to me on the Day of Judgement … do you??? Those who are not DOING rigtheousness will find Judgment Day to be the worst day of their lives! But it’s not too late now to amend your ways! Remember. He who does righteousness is righteous. can it be said of you that you are truly a child of God? If not. We cannot claim perfection in this matter. because I will never be perfect anyway. will only attain to perfection once we get into Heaven. is it not? And that’s not all! When you do righteousness you are also considered as a FRIEND of God! (See James 2:23) I want to be called a friend of God! Do you? The Apostle John continues… “In this the children of God are revealed. even as He is righteous. as Jesus was. fighting against sin. most of us must still confess sins of ommission! Most of us have not improved our opportunities and our time as we should have. you are righteous in His sight. Even if we don't do any sins of commission.” (1 John 3:7) If you OBEY the Lord Jesus by DOING that which is right. then you are considered as righteous by God … even as righteous like Jesus Himself! Granted. also he who does not love his brother. then you are a worker of iniquity! You are either one or the other. Now that's encouraging. On Judgment Day.” (1 John 3:10) How do you measure up? Do you obey the LORD habitually? Do you practise obedience to GOD? When someone looks at the overall course of your life. Hebrews 1:9 says that Jesus loves RIGHTEOUSNESS and hates iniquity! Another word for iniquity is lawlessness. . He wrote in his first letter the following words: “Little children. today is another day closer to the Day of Judgment. Jesus Christ will say to ALL workers of iniquity: “Depart from Me! I never knew you!” (Matthew 7:23). BUT. even as that One (Jesus) is righteous. Jesus Christ was the only perfect. sinless Human Being that ever walked on the face of this earth. God looks at your heart. it is true that we will never be absolutely perfect while living on earth. and the children of the Devil: everyone not practicing righteousness is not of God.8 NEED to put on the whole armor of God … including the breastplate of righteousness! The Apostle John also has something to say about DOING righteousness.
9 Time is running out! Do not let it be too late for you! The Day is coming when the Lord Jesus will judge the world in RIGHTEOUSNESS! You are without excuse. (Hebrews 9:27). but after this the judgment”. What do you think? Does your life line up with the Word of God? It better line up with the Word of God! You have only one life to live! Do not throw away your life! There is no second chance after death! There is no purgatory! There is no such thing as reincarnation! You do not die and then come back as a bumble-bee! NO! NO! The Bible says: “It is appointed to men once to die. because He has appointed a day wherein He will judge the world in RIGHTEOUSNESS through Jesus Christ! (Acts 17:30-31) On that day. The times of ignorance are past. You only get one shot at goal! Make this life count! Repent while you can and DO righteousness all the days of your life so that you too might have an inheritance with all the saints and a portion in the New Heavens and the New Earth wherein RIGHTEOUSNESS dwells (2 Peter 3:13). but now God commands all men everywhere to repent. whether you were obedient or not to the will of God … whether you did that which was right or not in the sight of God … whether you practised righteousness or not. you will be judged according to the Bible (Revelation 20:12). . Amen.
