Which radio is for you?
Two-way radios can increase safety, improve productivity, provide better customer or employee satisfaction and contribute to making your company more profitable.
Analogue – LicenSe-Free
Unlicensed radios are often referred to as license-free, license exempt, short range or PMR446 (Personal Mobile Radio). The frequencies are preset and free to use without a license across the EU. Non-licensed radios are a shortrange and voice-only communication system. They provide a basic but effective radio service for both business and non-business users, and are ideal for providing communication over short distances (e.g. within office buildings, factories and building sites). The range of these can vary from a hundred metres to a few kilometres depending on terrain. You may experience interference as non-licensed frequencies can be congested in areas, and if security is something that needs to be monitored, we would recommend a more secure alternative.
Analogue – Licensed
It is ideal for companies looking to add value to their onsite communication either in the form of wider area coverage or extra calling features on a secure licensed frequency. Licensed radios are typically 10 times more powerful than unlicensed radios giving greater range and less likelihood of interference from other radio users together with added security.
power, antenna efficiency, height above ground and terrain are just some of the factors to take into account. If a repeater and aerial are installed centrally, range can be greatly improved. With larger sites, coverage may be a hurdle you need to overcome. You may experience black spots in certain areas of the building, or you can’t communicate to the extremities of the site. You may also have a number of sites that you would like to communicate together. There is hardware available through repeaters to help with this. A site survey would determine what is required.
Analogue Radio Features
Analogue radios boast some great features which can really support the ever growing health and safety guidelines. These include: lone worker, man down and the emergency button.
A very common question we hear is “How far will my two-way radios work?” Unfortunately, this is a little like the old “How long is a piece of string?” question. A large number of factors affect the range of two-way radios; transmit

Digital two-way radios are the next generation of radio communication and are designed for businesses and individuals who demand the highest quality.
If you are looking to increase effectiveness and productivity, share information quicker and easier than ever before and have the very latest and best package for your business, location or event, then digital twoway radios are likely to be just what you need. Here are some other reasons why businesses of all types are now favouring digital over analogue: > Digital two-way radios give you strong and clear signals well beyond that of more traditional analogue radios meaning digital radios can be used over a much wider area. > Digital two-way radios reduce external background noise which makes them perfect for use in manufacturing or processing plants, outside in windy or noisy conditions such as sporting or music events. > Digital two-way radio means bandwidth consumption is reduced which results in longer battery life. This means a modern digital two-way radio will continue working long after an analogue radio. > With digital two-way radios more simultaneous talking paths are possible. > Information such as status buttons, enhanced text messages and unit ID can also be incorporated in a single digital radio channel. > A digital system can be integrated into existing IP networks. > Advanced GPS services are available with digital two-way radios which make it easier than ever for users to stay in touch and be located. > Digital radios allow voice, data and tracking on the same network at the same time meaning you can monitor your staff movements at all times. proof your system. These include: lone worker, man down, emergency button, text messaging, individual or group calling, GPS, stun, revive and remote monitoring.

Having digital radios has allowed us to link three of our hospitals in the region together, therefore connecting all staff. This has increased productivity with our staff. The job allocation software that Zycomm has developed allows the management team to understand what is being done, by whom it is being done and the time period in which that takes. Steve Hodgkins Solutions Specialist, Leicester Royal Infirmary Our old analogue radios made communications very difficult over our 1.25 million square foot distribution centre. With the installation of a repeater and new digital radios we are now able to communicate seamlessly. We have more channels which keeps congestion to a minimum and, with the software Zycomm have adapted to incorporate our fire alarm system, we have reduced the amount of false alarms and increased productivity in an evacuation. Paul Ridgill Deputy Engineering Manager, Wilkinsons Distribution Centre
We always advise that a free site survey is undertaken so that our engineers can see the site and make suggestions accordingly. The site survey will ensure that the equipment will work before the customer goes ahead with the order, putting their mind at rest that the equipment will be fully functional and that there are no nasty surprises after installation. to complex multi-channel business radio systems. We can supply you with the exact equipment you need: radios, rechargeable batteries, rapid chargers, leather cases, remote lapel speaker microphones, base stations and mobile tower antennas.
Service AND Maintenance Contracts
Once radio communications have been introduced to a company, they start to wonder how they ever managed without them. Therefore, when they have a broken radio that needs a repair, they need it turning around as quickly as possible. We have three levels of maintenance contract so that all of our customers, however big or small, can benefit from having a level of cover.
Short-term hire of two-way radios provides a cost-effective solution to any organisation that does not want to make a capital commitment, but which needs to use radios for periods ranging from one day to a year. From motor racing, horse racing, shows and exhibitions to fetes, carnivals, regattas and air displays, our radios are an invaluable tool for the smooth running of any event. Radio hire can be less than £1 per day.
We provide installation services for all the equipment we offer. From a discreet vehicle installation to a high profile control room fit out, we will provide a first class installation that complies with the most demanding health and safety guidelines. As with all our work, mast and tower climbing services are undertaken by fully qualified, trained professionals.
We are lucky to have a great team of software developers onsite, within Zycomm, allowing us to provide software solutions which will integrate the radio system within your business sector. Whether it be a job allocation system or a program which tells the user which fire alarm is signalling in which part of the building, we can provide a solution – tweaking where necessary – for each individual requirement.
