INTENT To inculcate in the students an awareness of elementary building services of water supply, sewerage and rainwater disposal in co-ordination with their application in construction field. The subject consists of three unitsUNIT I UNIT II UNIT III NOTE: Water Supply Sewerage Rainwater Disposal

To make students aware of construction related to services and Understanding of various graphical representations for services. WATER SUPPLY Sources, Quantity & Quality of water. Treatment of water, water treatment plant (WTP), distribution system & storage of water (U.G. & O.H. water tanks). Water supply pipes fittings, joining of pipes, valves and laying of water supply pipes. Water supply for multi storied buildings at domestic level with hot & cold water supply layout plan showing various fitting and installation with material used. Wastage of water in the distribution system, Detection of leakage in the distribution pipes. Awareness to relevant IS / NBC code standards. SEWERAGE Introduction to sewerage and systems of sanitation. Underground drainage and sewerage Sewer appurtenances and sewer pumps. Construction and maintenance of sewers. Sewage disposal & treatment process (Natural & Artificial), sewage treatment plant (STP), septic tank, soak pit. Drainage of multi storied buildings, House plumbing (pipes fittings, joining of pipes, types of traps etc), sanitary fittings and piping layout. Awareness to relevant IS / NBC code standards.

UNIT-III

RAINWATER DISPOSAL Surface and storm water drainage. Rain water drainage involves rain water pipes, various joints, gutter, outlets, drains etc. Rain water harvesting (RWH), rain water harvesting pits, storage tanks, uses (drinking water, water for live stock, water for irrigation, water for washing etc). Ground water recharge (GWR), GWR wells & water management. Site planning from drainage point of view, implementation of rain water harvesting at domestic level, desired steps from govt. agencies, NGO etc. The maintenance of rainwater goods and drainage. Awareness to relevant IS / NBC code standards.

INSTRUCTION FOR EXAMINER: From UNITI, set one compulsory question of 12 marks and two questions of 08 marks each, out of which student shall attempt one. From UNITII, set one compulsory question of 12 marks and two questions of 08 marks each, out of which student shall attempt one. From UNITIII, set one compulsory question of 10 marks.

GUIDELINES FOR THE TEACHER The teacher must highlight to make the students understand the various building services used in construction field all over the world and also encourage the students to incorporate them in their architectural design.
