WELCOME
Dear GlobeMed partners, students and friends, Thank you for joining us for this wonderful moment in GlobeMed’s history. It has been an exciting six years.  Some of you have been with us when we first set out. Some have joined along the way. You have each shaped the path we've taken together.  Our African partners, from Hohoe, Ghana to Gulu, Uganda to Huye, Rwanda and many places in between, have taught us that health for all is within our grasp, if we work together. In the United States, this belief has inspired over 3,000 young leaders to help realize health equity by supporting visionary grassroots organizations around the world.  We believe that many of our students will one day hold positions of leadership across borders and sectors. Because of your mentorship, they will know how to leverage their resources to serve the dreams of grassroots communities. They have seen their partners transform the systems that affect communities across this continent. They have formed friendships with the individuals who know best what grassroots communities need. Today, alumni are carrying these values and experiences into the world, working to change broken systems from the inside out.  A GlobeMed alumni recently described our events as "A family reunion with people you've never met." Your communities in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana and Togo have become a second home to many of us in the GlobeMed Network. The East Africa Forum -- the first of its kind for our organization -- feels a bit like a family reunion. We have had a desire to bring us all together for many years. Today, thanks to the support of the Segal Family Foundation, we finally have the chance to gather around the same table.  Through the privilege our partnership, we have learned just how much you have to share with one another. During this weekend, we encourage you to "Speak with the possibility of being heard, and listen with the possibility of being changed." As teachers and friends, you have taught us how to listen and to transform. We hope you give each other the same gift.  Over the next two days, we look forward to listening, learning, and growing alongside you.  With warmth, excitement, and tremendous gratitude,  Alyssa, Maya, and the GlobeMed National Office Team
